McNabb Trade?

The brain trust over at ESPN's "First Take", have stated that Donovan McNabb will almost certainly want to be traded due to the team's free agency activity(or according to them inactivity). They pointed out that the eagles have let LJ, Considine, Dawkins, Buckhalter, and Lito go and have only signed Andrews (a move I really like). They even suggested a McNabb for Cutler trade.

My question for everyone is, at this point what would it take to make McNabb Happy?

Joe Banner let it slip when he said

“We can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.” After the Arizona game this little bit of truth leaked out from the normally tight lipped organization.
I think the days of 2000-2004 are over… McNabb will be the next casualty (I don’t think it will happen till draft day).

I also said not a chance they don’t sign Dawk back …. right now I believe anything is possible, but this is not likely.

+1 exactly what i was thinking

When I look at this team, I still don't feel as though we are very far away, we still have to work hard and do the things we are capable of, but we do have the chance to get back and come back strong." -Brian Westbrook-

if mcnabb is trade im no longer a fan

Secretly all of Philadelphia loves Donavan. He is the truth. The front offices knows this and are looking to get a BIG deal done for a standout receiver. You can see they are clearing cap space in order for this to be done.

i hope your right

If football had a church, Brian Dawkins would be my preacher !

by NorthPhillyKid on Mar 2, 2009 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

Don't bite my head off...

But I could see them staring down McNabb and, if the right deal was in place, trading him for a younger, experienced QB. We all thought they would never let Dawkins go, regardless of the price.

I hate Cutler’s attitude so I wouldn’t want him…but perhaps something else might present itself.

I want to win an SB, and I’m a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and always will be. I was born in SW Philadelphia and I’ve been to games at Franklin Field (Go Cherry and White!), the Vet, and the Linc. If we need a change in QB to get us to win a ring, then so be it. My allegiance is to the team and the city of philadelphia.

If the players are only in it for the money, why is it bad for us to be in it for a superbowl victory?

Go Eagles.

Like I said, I don’t like his attitude, but he’s just the latest juicy rumor

totally off topic man, but you’re dog looks exactly like mine… he/she looks young… 6/7 months? awesome dogs though… mine is just filled with tons of energy. Chase is almost a year and a half now I think. like i said though, great dogs

Actually he’s almost 4 and is the best dog I’ve ever had. Same here, tons of energy and is rediculously affectionate. He’s a Pit/lab mix, was a stray, and I think now that we’ve had him, we’ll never get any other breed.

by thwalls on Mar 2, 2009 3:53 PM EST up reply actions

wow really? is that an old picture? same here, pit/lab mix… was a stray we got from a shelter. awesome dog. I’ve had a rednose pit in the past and they look exactly the same, chase is just black instead of brown. what’s his name?

Actually it’s a pretty recent picture. He just looks good for his age hehe. His name’s Oreo due to his coloring.

by thwalls on Mar 2, 2009 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

yeah...

I also wish he’d keep his mouth shut. I am all for him speaking his mind…so long as he does it PRIVATELY with the organization. But yeah, I’ll still take him over Matt Cassel or any other “hot” commodity on the market for QB. lol

by Tim Lynch on Mar 2, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

Uh, Cutler’s pretty awesome. He’s a competitor and he’s been surrounded by incompetent jackasses. He gets fiery when his team loses. You don’t want that in a QB?

I am the people's troll :3™

by yomjoseki on Mar 2, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t want to take a stance on picking him up. I think he’s an excellent QB, there’s just something about him that peeves me. But I’ll put it this way, I just want someone at the QB position who drinks the coolaid, he buys into it and wants to win and more then that BELIEVES that he can win with the people that surround him.

As fans we can complain, but if you’ve ever played a sport you know that you want your captain to say, “Alright fellas, lets get it done.” And you want to absolutely believe that he means that he can get it done with you and there isn’t a shadow of a doubt in his mind that says anything to the contrary.

When McNabb comes out and says, I want more weapons it’s a two edge sword. First off, he’s agreeing with the fans who say that we need to add more offensive artillery – which we as fans like. But at the same time he’s saying overtly to his teammates, “I can’t win with you. You’re not good enough.”

Y’know what, I want Andy, Lurie and Banner to say that. I don’t want my QB saying it, I want my QB to say that he’ll jump into the fire with us and he doesn’t care if he has to die in the process. I want him to be absolutely on board with the rest of the team and to keep his mouth shut.

I want a QB that helps us win football games and is loyal to his teammates. That’s it, period. I don’t care if its McNabb or Cutler – but hey, if yomjoseki likes him then I’m onboard because he knows what he’s talking about.

Reid was right when he said, “The fans only care about winning football games, not about our run/pass ratio.” Damn straight, I want Reid to put the pieces together, and win us some games. He’s done that so far, but without a ring, nothing he or the FO does will be enough.

by thwalls on Mar 2, 2009 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

I know what peeves you...

He talks to the cameras before he talks to his coaches and management. That is quite annoying…and I love the guy as a QB.

Verbose in style, dispersion of thought, procrastination in life.

by Tim Lynch on Mar 2, 2009 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not saying I want him, I’m just saying his “attitude” should be looked at more as “competitive spirit”. I think he’s a fine QB. I want McNabb here though.

I am the people's troll :3™

by yomjoseki on Mar 2, 2009 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

I will tell you this

The FO will not cater to McNabb. Get used to it. The only way he’s traded is if he asks for it, and even then it’s doubtful. We won’t just give him away.

Look, I think McNabb is a good QB and want him here, but only if his head is on straight. He likes to come across as a company man but has a very subtle way of stirring things up. Like now. He could have put all of these rumors to rest but he hasn’t. His silence is deafening.

Flame away but don’t call me a McNabb hater, because it’s not true. I am just calling it as I see it.

by MRPH on Mar 2, 2009 2:30 PM EST reply actions

I don't think they'll give him away

but when was the last time anyone demanded some thing from the FO and got it?
Lito – New contract: traded, no new contract
TO – New contract: traded, got a new contract
McNabb – Pick up weapons in the offseason: Eagles jettison everyone that McNabb played with during his best years
McNabb – Wants an extension: We’ll see what happens next….

ESPN is a shell of the once great network it once was. They put things out just to start controversy. I can’t watch it anymore. I will watch ESPNEWS for updates and will watch games on the network but that is about all. They are trying to gin up something that just ain’t gonna happen.

Agreed, but that said, I hope they are somehow able to calm him down (preferably through acquiring weapons) from his “Get me some more weapons or trade me” position of last week, because I can’t see letting Dawk and Buck walk in FA will make him happy.

I’d rather not have Donovan sulking his way through the season as time grows shorter for both he and Westbrook.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

McNabb

I knew a guy in the Eagles Org. He worked the visitors sidelines.
He told his brother " I shouldnt even be telling you this….all during the Tampa NFC game, Childress kept telling Reid " I cant believe he missed the open guy"

the most fascinating part is...

that the game you’re referring to was a home game, so it’s pretty incredible hearing for that guy, who worked the visitors sidelines, to hear across the field childress telling reid anything.

This just ESPN blowing smoke up our collective asses

If any channel doesn’t know what the hell is going on, it’s these guys and their “throw as much shit against the wall to see if it sticks” attitude.

Watching ESPN is like reading MLB Trade Rumors. Some of it’s true, but most is just conjecture. They want the ratings and web traffic.

"In a couple of weeks or a month, I'll be excited about this team," Dawkins said. "I've got to get used to saying that -- I'm a Bronco." Then he paused. "I'll tell you one thing -- I'll always be an Eagle."

by exitfare on Mar 2, 2009 6:56 PM EST reply actions

Exactly.

McNabb for Cutler? They’re talking just to talk because both names are in the news and no one wants to hear about the Texans signing the Cardinals’ DE.

I’ve liked Cutler since Vandy though. Dude’s actually a warrior.

by D3Keith on Mar 2, 2009 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

Since the FO is cleaning house....

I’d take a Cutler for McNabb trade because first and foremost I’m an Eagles fan.

by cool-rockin-daddy on Mar 2, 2009 7:43 PM EST reply actions

i'd take cutler.

3 years in, mobile, best years are clearly ahead of him. i’m behind cutler on this one. he’s a top tier quarterback. i think he’s much more of a sure thing than matt cassel. he has every right to be upset. it’s not that guy’s fault their defense stinks.

by snowhill82 on Mar 2, 2009 7:54 PM EST reply actions

McNabb

The guy worked for the Eagles for over ten years….some things he told us, some things he couldnt.

He took care of the visitors locker room and sidelines.

he had some great funny stories….Jeff Fisher…Jerry Jones…the cheerleaders dressing room…..

dont really care what you guys think……the truth is a beautiful thing.

Cutler? are you kidding me?

hes worse than T.O. when it comes to whining. and he isnt even close to McNabbs talent. i hope we dont trade McNabb, but i understand why he would want to leave. Our starting wideouts wouldnt be starting on any other team in the league, except maybe Minnesota.

by BDawkins20 on Mar 2, 2009 11:31 PM EST reply actions

Really?

We were 6th in the league in passing yards. I know we had our issues in the red zone, etc., but our receivers aren’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be.

I honestly don’t think that poor Donovan has it that bad.

Hmmm

2008 McNabb:

345 Comp/571 Att/60.4%/3,916 Yds/23 TDS/11 Ints.

2008 Cutler:

384 Comp/616 Att/62.3%/4,526 Yds/25 TDs/18 Ints.

by cool-rockin-daddy on Mar 3, 2009 1:09 AM EST reply actions

Why post?

I went through all the geeky requirements to register on this board to give my opinions just like everybody else does…..

just give me a true running back like Dallas and NY have.

a Bruiser. a guy who carries 2-3 defenders on his back into the secondary.

Lurie & Banner dont have a clue……Lurie wanted to buy the Patriots, but didnt have the $$

As for McNabb…..he’s just like Brett Favre…gets all excited and throws over, under etc etc
Ever see the NFL films when Holmgren grabs Favre and tells him, “Enough with the rocket passes”

after all…..its just entertainment.
Just like the Romans did with the gladiators…………………nothing ever chages.
