How i long for the days of TROLLBLUE

Star-divide

I am talking to all the BGN Vets out there. AND IF YOU DONT KNOW WHO TROLLBLUE IS DONT MAKE A SINGLE REMARK IN THIS FANPOST!!!!

I am so tired of all these new people coming in here and spewing their garbage. At least trollblue gave us something to do but now it’s all about 12 year old kids talking about what their dad wants to happen like its fact. Not one of these new people knows what their talking about and just start typing garbage.

When I first joined this site it was fun because it was a small group of guys who talk shared ideas and brought real insight.

For instance the whole Fitz situation last year. We all wanted him and actually talked numbers and team history and different ideas.

Now people just start saying stupid things without taking into account what the team’s needs and habits are.

I knew once yahoo sports stared directing people to this site we would get a lot of dumb posters but this is ridiculous. THE IDEA OF SOMEONE CALLING WHODIE AND IDIOT!!!!!!!!! Come on these people really have no right posting on this site.

I really can’t even read what goes on here because it’s filled with crap that people should not be saying. No facts no thoughts just garbage.

So here we go I want to pay tribute to all the BGN vets out there. I want to make a list of those people who DESERVE to be posting on this site. So let’s hear some names.....

Hey Nick..

I maybe am not the MOST active poster…but i think i would consider myself a Vet. (Pre-Yahoo Era at the minimum so i think i can post here!)
Oh how bad things have gotten that we have requested TROLLBLUE back…the most waivering, yet friendly, yet ignorant, yet intelligently stupid troll on the planet! Offseason in general just sucks. hopefully content improves with less speculation and more gameplay!!!!!

I guess i consider myself a vet here now. Especially since me and you joined the same day.

I havent posted much recently though due to the stupid posts about trading mcnabb ect, ect, and the lack of offseason moves this year.

Lol, I remember posting the article where I suggested we should all just flat-out ignore our trolling friend. I haven’t been posting a lot recently either, and I must say I’m a bit discouraged by some recent posts. Although I’m certainly in favour of BGN getting more exposure, I would like people to think a bit before they post things. Some of the vets on here do seem a bit too pro-FO sometimes, but I’d much rather discuss those views with them, rather than reading that ‘BoldEn for a first, second, third and Westbrook’. Its just foolish sometimes.

I'm not ready to move on from #20.

I know I am part of the problem, but I am starting to feel that the vets are getting a little snobby about this site. I agree, I hate all the stupid, negative, non-factual arguments that have popped up since the Yahoo! thing. I am starting to think that all of these posts about how much we hate new members could end up hurting the site. I think we need to create a happy medium, and when a new member makes a solid post, say so.

by Clyde Simmons on Mar 16, 2009 10:40 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I tend to agree with you Clyde. In all seriousness is a post complaining about new members any better then a 7th consecutive post about the Eagles FO sucking? yes … but not by enough.

We all know this happens there are waves when something big does or doesn’t happen and people come here to bitch, realize they can’t hang and move on. I come here to talk football, if someone wants to call me an idiot so be it. I know football, I know the Eagles, I may not always be right but I’m willing to listen and learn.

Nick, I appreciate the support and I know what you are doing, one thing I love about this site is that although most of us have never met we have great camaraderie. I would hate to lose new members that could add to this site by being slightly pretentious.

Yea I am pretty sure regardless of who is posting here the exposure is good for everyone who enjoys this site. I hardly post here but I read every topic and almost every fan post daily. I do agree that sometimes people just talk about crazy things that will never happen (annoying) but if only the " vets" DESERVEto post or only the “vets” are entitled to their opinions, I don’t believe this site will have many new visitors in the future.

by Qu1nTeR on Mar 16, 2009 11:15 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

im not saying that only the vets post. i am saying they do what you and i did and that wait to post gather information and then post when you have something worth while to post

by NickPampani on Mar 16, 2009 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nick, you are a vet bro. and we wanted you to play WR for us last year.

(if you remember that old post)

In all seriousness, I understand you point, some times the posting becomes a little cluttered. And it takes more time to read specific peoples insight. Just do what I do, look for those people you like, and read there posts and response. I really can’t read ever, little tiny think posting. I look for those oppinions I care about, you guys know who you are. Every now and then some new guys work there way up. Shout out to MRPH, XxbleedgreenxX, and some of the other new guys.

By like Whodie said, in time, the corny guys will just get tired and stop posting. But I love that BGN is growing.

I joined after lurking a while because there are some fellow die hard Eagles fans on here who are quite knowledgeable to boot. Sure, there is some BS to weed through, but there are enough good conversations to make it worthwhile.

And yophillybro, I appreciate the kind words. It’s good to know that I am seen as a contributor, at least in some eyes. That after all is the intent.

I don’t remember who it was but it was suggested that a user have 50 comments before he can make a fanshot or post. This would help everyone get to know the newer users before they just start making fanposts.

Now I’ve been here since the change over but I just don’t comment very often and have yet to fanpost. You vets probably don’t remember any of my comments or my name but if I had an insightful post would you first check to see if I was a new member or just read it?

by pooch900 on Mar 16, 2009 11:47 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

just read it … I don’t care if it’s your first post or your 1 millionth post … I don’t care if you just started watching the Eagles or have been a fan since 1933 … I don’t care if you are 10 or 110 … if you have something of value to say say it.

good

thats the way it should be.

by pooch900 on Mar 16, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yes exacctly

but the problem isnt you or people like you its the people who come in with an idea that they think has value but when you add 100 people who know better in to the mix and then 100 people who are just as ignorant as the original guy it becomes very messy.

there used to be a time where i would reed every post and comment because they were all insightful but now i have to sift through layers of dog crap to get to someone like you who says something worth my time. this in tern will push truely knowledgeable people away because their comments would just get lost in the wash of things.

I remember last year when FA opened we had a discussion that reached 90 comments about what WR would be a good fit. now we cant reach 35 without it being bumped off because too many new ones come

by NickPampani on Mar 16, 2009 1:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

there are some posts that aren’t very well thought out and the duplicate posts get on my nerves, but I still will look for the posts that are insightful and worthwhile and contribute my opinions and ideas when i feel it adds the discussion.

Here it goes if you want to poke a stab at it

http://www.igglesblog.com/iggles_blog/2009/03/looking-at-the-trade-charts.html

It confuses me because both Axis are for picks. I don’t understand what the 2 variables are. Any help.

City of Champions!

by yophillybro on Mar 16, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think I get it

If you look at the the value under the 1 cell of 955 that is the value of both first round picks. If you go down a cell to the value of 701 that is the value of the 21st pick in the first round and the 53rd pick overall which is worth 176 plus the value of the 21st(525) gets you the 701.

Now to me it gets a little confusing in the later rounds for the all the TBD draft picks and the fact that the values below the chart only go up to 64th pick or the 2nd round. But basically it shows the value if you packaged the first round pick with say our best possible 5th round pick gives a score of 571 which means by the looks of the chart that if we through in a 5th rounder we could move up a spot or 2 but that doesn’t seem realistic to me.

I think the thing that anyone new to the site has to realize is that this is more than just a site to blog about the eagles. Those of us who have been here for a long time have gotten to know eachother. Almost works like an office. No one knows the new guy until he makes himself known or contributes something good. Everyone else has known eachother for a while and become friends instead of just co workers. It takes a little while to prove yourself around here. Dont be discouraged though. Its deffinently worth it to stick around here. You will learn a lot. Take some time into what you are saying in a post. Most of us get upset with moronic posts because it takes away from the credability of the site and makes us all look dumb. I mean after all, we dont want to become another gcobb.com.

by andyb on Mar 16, 2009 12:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think that we’re growing, and with the addition of the Yahoo traffic we’re growing much faster than any of us expected. It seemed that we went from a few of us posting to many posting almost overnight. For example, I remember FA starting last year and there weren’t nearly as many people on as this year. But with growth comes the pain of growth. I think that this will all sort itself out by itself. By drawing attention to the people who are only on here to point fingers or troll, or just be asshats we bring more of the same around – because then they fell spited and need to lash out in some other way.

We’ll get members that are better than others and some that well not be as insightful as others but are still entitled to a voice. This may just mean having to do a little sifting to sort wheat from the chaff. So far, I think most of the posts I’ve read haven’t been all that bad, I think quite honestly we’re making a lot out of nothing. If you were to walk through the parking lot of the Linc you’d hear a lot worse than what’s going on in here.

For example, the last time I was at the Linc two guys behind me almost came to blows over whether or not McNabb was a good QB. The only measure was because he got sacked. There was no discussion of the OLine, or Westbrook/Buckhalter picking up the blitzes, it just had to do with McNabb. We could have that kind of nonsense in here, and we don’t. I don’t mind goofy arguments, or repeats as long as we don’t go after people and get into a, “You’re stupid, no, you’re stupid” argument.

Game days can be rough for all of us

Cause emotions take over and emotions talk, not our usual logical selves. Fuqua did make a point to be as negative as possible, but thats not why I hated him. He went out of his way to call me out and harp on me every chance he got in the comments or fan posts. Then he tried to get me banned by trying to call me a racist. He was a spazz, I’m glad he’s gone.

I have been critical of McNabb at times

I think he whines and doesn’t handle the media as well as someone making millions could. I have gotten heated during and after games before and have sparked the most criticism that way. I don’t take losses very well and I never have. I am getting better though ;)

i've only been coming here for about two months now....

but i really like the information that i’m able to glean from this site. most of the veteran posters here have really good views that aren’t necessarily mine. i enjoy having debates with people who know what they’re talking about. down here in arkansas, there aren’t a lot of eagles fans. (cowboy country). but there’s been a time or two, that i’ve stated my case on something and was subsequently called an idiot (or teenager). lately, i’ve tried to be a little less reactionary. i’ve been attempting to sit back and read a little more. anyways i appreciate the more consistant voices on the site…there is seldom a day passes that i don’t come home and check up.

Guys I'm new too!!!

I love this site because guys like whodie and foos5 and the rest have great insight. I know football, but I’ve only been an Eagles fan since my college days, specifically the season that Detmer and Feeley took over for McNabb to keep it alive (it took going to college in Philly after growing up in New Enlgand to convince me)…

I love this site because I learn the history of the Eagles and the trends of the FO that I’m not familiar with, but want to learn.

And to other new guys: Like anything, when a veteran has a constructive comment, LISTEN TO THEM! They will be much more welcoming of new blood if their wisdom is given some credence.

These boards...

Have a built in way to keep GOOD posts active. I am not sure why more people don’t REC any of the posts that they want to keep active so they don’t drop down. I am not sure what the rule is on this site, but the site I came from always moved any post with 3 rec’s or more to the top automatically so they can stay active.

Secondly, any public blog or forum is going to have idiots, it’s unavoidable. That’s the nature of the internet to hide behind anonymity. The problem is posts like these flaming people because you were here before them is ridiculous, and will bring out more flames than positives. This is the most boring time of the year for Eagles fan, the waiting just SUCKS, but that’s why some fan posts may be stupid, but they also may be fun, and actually good posts. So if you limit what people can and should post you will get rid of the crap, but you will also lose out on any gems that might be there.

Badd

your new here but bring good value, except your ignorance is showing. this time of the year is the most exciting for an eagles fan. on the surface it all looks boring but as the seasons vets know this is the most exciting times of the year for the eagles because with 12 picks 2 1st rounders and 40 million in cap space plus the addition of a few high quality low cost free agents makes us all excited to see what the eagles would do. Our FO is one of the smartest out there and has had success for many years and its because of what happens in the off season.

this is why people like Joe_d and i get upset at the waste of posts because this is when everybody learns that there is no off season and eagles football never stops

by NickPampani on Mar 16, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ignorance

is like faith. You believe that this is the most exciting time of the year, where in my opinion the time after most of the free agent signings are done until the draft actually is happening is the most boring time of the year because of all the unknowns. Yes you are correct it is exciting to speculate and try to figure everything out, but it’s also maddening when you see things and you decide you want them, and you have no idea what the FO will do ie. (Knowshon, Weaver, etc.) so you have no choice but to wait. That waiting is what I meant as the boring part. So I prefer to see it as a difference of opinion, me disagreeing with you or any ally that you have doesn’t make the post ignorant, it makes it different. For instance, true ignorance would be somebody choosing to root for the Giants, Cowboys, or Skins ;)

i agree Badd

waiting is one of the worst parts of being an Eagle fan. I understand where you are coming from. Fans always like to know what is going on in their precious organization, but the Eagles roll under privacy and secracy. That is how they are. Im riding with the newbie on this one Nick. I hate waiting.

starters vs. second string vs. rookies

I just have to say honestly, Im not fond of some of the repetitve post, But who am I? Seriously if this were an actual team We’d have our starters( FOOS, ANDY, AnDREWB , etc) who ar here ALL the time, have the BEST info and insight,Then theres the 2nd string (People like myself who come here often have SOME insight ) who come often but not EVERY play so to speak. And than theres the rookies…they have to learn…but lets not be TOO harsh we all started learning SOMEwhere

This place is great

I’ve learned a lot recently from this site and that’s why I check it all the time. While I’ve felt that I knew more than the typical fan, I know there’s plenty of people out there who have been fans since before I was born (89) and it’s great getting the insight, I know I’ve only been here like 3 weeks or so, but I know I’ve already learned a lot more. It’s nice being able to constantly have discussion about football with people who actually know what they’re talking about. I’m just way too tired of talking with friends and family saying things like McNabb sucks and we NEED the big play WR…this is a nice break from that.

Like i said

BGN is a solid place. I go here for information over PE.com in many cases. I know i said this before. When i get online, BGN is one of the main sites i have to go to. The newbies will learn, (heck, i remember that i was a newbie once and looked up to the likes of 700 and whodie), but there should be a way to reduce the number of pathetic posts. There are some solid ones that i will get on the next day to continue debate, but the aimless posts have pushed valid ones down. Im lazy guys, im not hunting for posts.

before i came here i always went to PE.com for my Eagles info and it sucked b/c it barely ever got updated, here (lots of thanks to JasonB) and some of the other posters we know about all the rumors and info almost immediatly

To me the Eagles are like that girlfriend that pisses u off, then u hate her, but the next morning you wake up and remember that thing u love so much about her

I hear Ya...

I have not been around here long but I do wish there were more intellignet posts from people who are literate and can develop a thought of their own. Its like trying to argue with some football fans who are just like, “Eagles suck, they will always suck.” …blah blah…
I am passionate about the team but that doesnt mane I throw logic out the window.
There really is no way to stop the illiterate, thoughtless posts though so lets have some fun with it…how bout “the top 5 most ludicrous posts of the month” …maybe this will discourage people a bit…just a suggestion. I love smart football talk…lets hope we can keep it up in some capacity.

I realize this is going to be an unpopular sentiment among the vets ...

… but I promise I put at least a little thought into it :)

The (now-)constant complaining about the idiotic threads (and I agree they’re idiotic) isn’t doing anything to curb them (since the “newbie” idiots aren’t here to read them). They’re further clogging up the pages and making the decent insight even harder to find. Personally, I think the course of action is to not respond on those threads. If you don’t engage them, they’re not going to waste time posting to themselves.

On the other hand, when you turn it into sort of a “cool kids” club and create a hierarchy where people have to jump through hoops to earn your respect, it does turn off those of us who chose BGN over the many other Eagles blogs out there because of the abundance of valuable insight. I realize that earning respect over time is sort of how these things work, but to be so overt as to create shout-out lists of who’s cool and who’s not yet cool is honestly a huge turn-off.

I admit, I like when my contributions get a “+1” or a “good post” as much as anyone, but reading lists of Hall of Famers is just as useless to me as the idiotic, repetitive threads are to all of us. I’m a member of some small web communities myself, and I understand the fun of getting to know people to the point where you’re slinging inside jokes back and forth. But that’s not really how you’ve chosen to set BGN up, as far as I can tell. And if this is to be the all-inclusive, one-stop shop for Eagles banter (and it’s certainly qualified to be that), then the negativity about the “new” posters isn’t really making the new people — even the ones who have valuable insights to share, the kind of people you want on here — feel very welcome.

The complaining posts have taken on a condescending tone, and while I don’t feel they’re aimed at me specifically, it does seem to create the impression that new people have to do something besides be insightful to get in the cool guys’ club.

I think the vets have to impress the new people to keep them here just as much as the new people have to impress the vets to be welcomed. There is definitely something to be said for earning your respect over time, but the more you close the circle, the more people — potentially insightful ones — could just as easily take their insights to one of the tons of other Eagles sites out there, which I think would defeat the purpose of having the best collection of insightful minds sharing in one place.

I firmly believe BGN has a sort of natural selection where as those who can handle the discussion stay and those who come here to bitch, end up leaving when they get in over their heads.

I'm a rookie...

And I see the repetitive posts but I just don’t see why it is a big deal…I think a lot of veterans spend an abnormal amount of time bitching about rookies rather than making good posts to spur discussion about the Eagles…

the reason we bitch

is because we have seen our share of trolls and we like lively discussion here. This is many peoples primary source of info for die hard eagle fans. The last thing we need is aimless rumors and pointless trash. I really dont want to seem cruel, but this site has a good rep. please dont run off newbies by postin trash.

I gotcha...

but as a newbie looking for lively discussion, it also runs newbies off when the 2 most popular posts in the last week are not even about the eagles, but about how people suck at posting…

As a rookie, it does bother me

when I see a post that seems elementary…I click on the name only to find the person has made significantly more posts than comments.

Comments show the community that you’re interested in the conversation…posts show that you’re interested in talking. The best guys on here have WAY more comments than posts.

Just something for rookies to think about before they post. READ and COMMENT MORE than you post!!!
