This guy is on the Giant's BBI forum and he supposedly has "sources." Take it for what it's worth.
Ok, I alluded to this last night in the Jurevicius thread and ran it by a few people on BBI yesterday and I'm still waiting to hear back from my main source, however it seemed to be in line with what others are hearing, so I'll post it.
The Browns seem to be coming off of their demands for a 1st this year and a 1st or 2nd next year. They would like a first rounder and are trying to get one this year for Edwards, but short of that, they are looking for a 2nd rounder, plus a few picks in the 3rd thru 5th round, and a conditional next year.
The teams that he's heard who have been involved are the Giants, Eagles, Vikings, 49ers and Jets. However he said the sense is the Jets are backing off and targeting Holt. Right now, the Giants and the Eagles are the lead teams for Edwards. However, he said that the Eagles trades of Shephard and Lewis has now netted them 12 picks, including 4 5th rounders (one of them the Browns' 5th which they got in a trade last year). The Eagles seem intent on landing Boldin or Edwards and those deals gave them more picks to swing for one of those guys. At this point, the Giants and Eagles are not budging on the 1st rounder that the Browns are asking for, but for now, the Browns are looking for quality and quantity for Edwards, up to 4 picks (3 in 2009 and a 2010 conditional).
So, take it for what it's worth. It sounds like the Browns are trying to play the Giants and Eagles off each other and get one to blink to give up a first rounder (the Eagles at #28 or the Giants at #29). I hate to say it, but the Eagles look to have more ammo than the Giants to land him. The one interesting thing though, if Gibril Wilson does net the Giants an extra 3rd or 4th, the Giants could give the Browns better value short of someone blinking and giving up their first. As for when it will happen, he didn't know, but the general sense is it might go on up to the draft.
