Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie wasn't able to raise a Super Bowl trophy last season, but he did find a different kind of pay dirt: Forbes' 2009 list of the world's billionaires

Jeffrey Lurie debuted on the Forbes list despite a tough economy in which even those who kept a ranking lost a ton.

thoughts anyone ?

My 2 cents...

I think he runs the team well, isn’t an egomaniac, and his being a billionaire vs. a multi multi millionaire doesn’t really affect my life a whole lot.

Bully for him.

I'm not an expert on how it all works

But if he’s making all that money why did the tickets price rise so much?

ticket prices always rise after a championship appearance.

this… but also realize that the economy has alot to do with it as well. everyone here knows how much more you’re paying for groceries and gas and all of that shit. well companies experience this increase too in the form of utility increases and increased costs to suppliers… if i’m running ANY company, i’m not going to just eat that increase… that gets passed along to the consumers.

At least he keeps his nose out of the football side of things. He lets the football people worry about football.

ha

Funny this came out right after I did my rant about how ownership shouldn’t pocket as much money. What % of the team does he own? I think they eagles are worth close to a billion by themselves.

Could care less

If anything it is a good thing, especially in a potentially uncapped era. He may have more means than the average owner to help improve his team/product, thus bringing in more profits.

GREAT IM EXCITED

first off i am never angry at someone for doing the best they can unless they destroy people in the process, and the only people he has done that to is jerry jones and the cowboys.

second….. having an owner who is now in the billionaire club just gives us more money to spend in the uncapped year

you know

you know what frustrates me is they want to penny pinch on every free agent and here is this douche bag entering the billionare club!!! Perfect!!!

ahhhhhhhh

did they penny pinch asante? did they penny pinch moss? just get over it dude, they didn’t want any big names this year because after gross was resigned and peppers franchised, there weren’t really any oh wow need to have em.

hold on...

no, they didn’t penny pinch on asante, but he knew he wasn’t going to get moss. it was pretty much a meeting to have people like you believe that he was “attempting” to go after a big time receiver. so, don’t throw moss there like that.

people like me?

you can’t just offer people money and then change your mind. they offered him a contract, and had he signed, they would have paid it to him. he didn’t. i guess i’m a fool for saying that offering a guy a mega contract is making an attempt to sign him. crazy

have you considered they penny pinch the people they can live without? the ones they want they offer mega contracts…see: john runyan, asante samuel, TO, etc…

You can't tie the Eagles to Lurie personal wealth

At least not fully. One of the big fallacies is that if you are listed as the owner or majority partner, that your personal fortune is tied to the franchise. The Eagles have to live within their cash flow, which is revenue (marketing, ticket sales, TV rights, radio rights, copyrights, etc) minus expenses (players salaries, FO salaries, upkeep of facilities, utilities, etc). Lurie’s personal wealth does not enter into the equation, unless he make a loan to the team via a thirs party transaction. The only thing his inclusion on the billioanaires list does for the Eagles is 1) prove that they have avery shrewd business man as the managing general partner and 2) give him the right to slap his wife in the noggin during a missed-high-five as many times as he likes. A billion dollars forgives alot of incidental wife “slaps”.
