A few random Thoughts...

I'll spare most of my feelings about Dawk because everyone else has spoken most of my feelings. Man i loved that guy, and i'm not gonna lie... i will watch the broncos occasionally just to watch him play.

He is and always will be favorite Eagle.

here are some random thoughts i had this morning that kept me awake thinking...

1) Nobody... and i mean NOBODY better wear 20 in an Eagle uniform again. I know it will be a long time until his jersey will be retired, but especially this year, i will not be able to see a green 20 on the field

2) I know that Dawkins got a great deal, but i still dont understand... Denver? You gotta think that the Eagles are probably one or two plays... or players from a SB. You really cant even argue that. If Dawk really wanted a ring, Philly was his best bet.

3) I continue to waiver back and forth on my feelings about the FO letting him go. It enrages me... and then it makes sense... it makes me bitter... but then again it makes sense... its back and forth. But guys i'm not buying this whole irreplaceable leader thing. Someone will step up. I hate to compare Dawk to Trotter, but everyone got all bent out of shape when he got cut... "How are they going to replace him" etc etc.... First of all, i know that this a WAY different situation, but i honestly dont think this move hurts the team as much as it hurts our emotions.

4) My favorite Eagles memories all involve Dawkins... and for me, its sometimes less about his plays and more about his personality on the field. Like when he picked up the pylon in the 2004 NFCCG and spiked it... and the way he used to lead the fight song from the sideline... and comments like "Wherever the ball is, thats where we're gonna be... lets dominate this game, from the rooter to the tooter"!

There was not a bigger Dawkins fan than me... I'll miss him tremendously, but I'm an EAGLES fan. And we... have to move on now.

To the greatest Eagle ever! We'll miss you Dawk!

Yeah definitely the greatest Eagle ever and one of the most emotional and passionate guys in the game. A few things about Dawk situation:

1. FO should’ve re-signed Dawkins prior to FA.

2. I just cannot believe that he went to Denver. Seriously DENVER? Given his character and love for the team and the city, I’m guessing the FO terribly low-balled him to the point where he felt disrespected. They obviously did not think he could get a deal from any other place and knew that Dawk WANTED more than anything else to finish his career here. Maybe they even dared him to go sign somewhere else if he thought he could get a better deal. I’m speaking very irrationally but I just can’t help but think that’s what the situation came down to during the negotiations.

3. I actually think we’ll get better at the safety position (via draft or FA). It’s no secret that Dawk was past his prime and struggled last year until JJ made some adjustments. So from a football standpoint, this was the right decision (even though it stings like hell). Now emotionally, I don’t think we’ll have a problem either. We have a lot of guys in the defense that will be up to the challenge of leading the unit.

This is a sad moment for Eagles fans everywhere. I will miss seeing #20 leave it all out on the field on every single play. Thanks for the memories and good luck in Denver Dawk. We’ll give you a long, well-deserved standing ovation when you come to town.

i disagree with the statement that we are/have just a few plays away

from making the SB. My humble opinion is that, thanks to our strategically inept Coach, we leave a lot of details unresolved /poorly addressed during each offseason. One or more of these issues subsequently comes to bit us in the ass at some point during the seaso/playoffs. More on this later in a fanpost.

I see how you can disagree with certain points in this point. Some of them are opinions, therefore, there can be mutliple view points. But the one that you have chosen to refute is one that is actually a fact. We were within one score, or one defensive stop of being the NFC representative in Tampa. How exactly do you disagree with that? It’s not like we missed the playoffs entirely and chose 10 or 12 plays from 5 or 6 losses and pinned it on that…we’re talking about being ONE play removed from the big game.

Three things I really agree with:

That’s what makes the least sense of it all. We’re better with him, he’s better with us … Denver almost seems like a lose-lose.

Agreed. We can be mad at the FO for that, but we can’t be mad at him for not giving him what Denver did.

This is kind of a test of how much you love the team.

We’ll see Dawk back in the green someday, one way or another. Wish it hadn’t come to this, but …

I want to say it's safe to assume

that’ll be out of circulation for a while at least, if not for good … but then again, I would’ve said it’s safe to assume Brian Dawkins would finish his career as an Eagle.

Is he really the greatest Eagle ever? I realize that’s been batted around a lot, and it’s worth considering … but also, are we being extra dramatic because the wounds are still fresh?

He definitely embodied the spirit as well as anyone I can think of …
