Chris Wells

I am one of those people who believed he would probably be a bust in the nfl. I also thought itd be risky to draft a player with injury problems. If we drafted him at 21, i would not be dissapointed at all. After watching some highlight films, i am impressed. He has great vision, good acceleration, and can run people over. I know a lot of people will talk about his injuries in this post but put that aside and just look at what he can do. The first link is highlights for Wells. The second link is highlights for moreno which is also a great back but lacks the big back skills everyone has been asking for. Either player would be a great addition to the eagles.

This is like the 1,000th Wells post

Again, I still don’t think we will draft a RB high. We’ll see though. I hope there’s a guy we really like in the 3rd or the 4th.

Not Andy's style

to draft a RB that high…

he builds from inside out…

I think we can count on one OT and either a defender (DT, DE, S) with the two first-round picks.

One possibility would be TE if he falls in love with one.

(Wouldn’t go WR after D-Jax, Curtis showed good stuff… no QB or RB… LB corp looked solid… CBs are deep with Ikeguonu coming around too)

Injuries

keep in mind adrian peterson was dubbed “injury prone” when he was at OU. Plus if we drafted bennie, hed be splitting time with bwest so its not like hed be taking all the hits.

I'm down with some Beanie action.

Beanie has no break away speed.. but at 235-240 pounds, who needs breakaway speed? Dude loves contact, finds holes, and is a great North & South runner… possibly the next MB III. The only thing I worry about is his ability to catch the ball. A West Coast team will not welcome a RB who cannot catch. If the combine proves he can catch, I’m all about that pick.

Wouldn’t it be nice?

he's got great breakaway speed idk what you're talking about

I live in Cleveland so i’m a huge OSU fan and ive watched beanie wells for the vast majority of his career

dude is really fast and has power to his game too

by Manoovi on Feb 8, 2009 10:44 AM EST up reply actions

I agree that he is fast for his size, but..

he doesn’t run the 4.4 40 that the DB’s in the NFL do. He is extremely quick and will pick up good yardage, but will get chased down from behind (watch his highlight tapes). He isn’t the burner that Westy is, but still has the potential to be a productive back.

exactly

were not looking for a second brian westbrook, were looking for someone that can do the things westy cant.

by FillyPhan on Feb 8, 2009 11:41 AM EST up reply actions

in Beanies defense ...
has no break away speed

is exactly what they say about Westbrook. I can’t play one game of Madden without hearing Madden say something about Westy’s lack of speed. There is a huge difference between game speed and running the 40.

This is exactly what people said about Brandon Jacobs

And Jacobs wasn’t playing against the same level of competition in college. I think Wells will be a good pro, but I don’t see the Eagles taking him.

Catching Ability!

I live in Columbus and have seen Beanie for a while now. He has very good hands for a big guy. As a West Coast RB, he would actually be a decent fit for the Birds.

watch the highlight i posted of him above

when he hits the hole or gets to the outside, you see him hit that second gear and just burn down the field. He’s not as fast as westbrook or desean but id say he’s just as fast as brandon jacobs and look at all the success he has.

We won't get him anyway, so no need to argue boys :)

and 40 speed doesn’t mean anything like Whodie said. Boldin was clocked at 4.71 and Rice was a 4.6something runner.

Joe, as much as I like your picture, if Andy does draft a RB in the first round I think your going to have to change your picture to Matt Milan or something (cause he is always wrong).

Yo, I am surprised how good he looked on that clip.

He is big and strong and has great vision. I like what I saw, Knoshown looks a little smaller and didn’t seem to break as much arm tackles as Beanie did.

I hate his name, “Beanie”, it sucks.

But he looks like exactly what we need. He reminded me of AP with his strong running style.

Knoshown reminded me of a very athletic Darren McFadden. Both should be a sound pick up, but Wells may be a better fit.

Thanks for that clip, I have a better appreciation for this kid now.

Let’s just remember, YouTube highlight reels are hardly a balanced and unbiased assessment of a player’s skills. And he plays in the Big Ten which might as well be D2 football.

by jvoelks on Feb 9, 2009 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

he hits holes hard, has nice cutback ability and is strong. He relies on the stiff arm a lot I wonder if it will be half as effective in the pros against bigger stronger faster LBs as it was in college.

I really didn’t think Chris Wells would amount to anything in the NFL, but the more youtube I watch on him I start to think he looks like Duce Staley. If Moreno isn’t there, I could see this being a good option.
