The Eagles got in on the wheeling and dealing Saturday, trading cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets in exchange for two undisclosed draft choices. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Philadelphia will receive a 2009 fifth-round pick and a 2010 conditional draft pick. The pick could be as high as a second-round choice in 2010 and as low as a fourth.

The move marked the latest shakeup in the Eagles' secondary. Earlier in the day, unrestricted free agent safety Brian Dawkins signed a five-year deal with Denver.

Sheppard's departure seemed imminent when the Eagles re-signed Hanson to a five-year deal on Feb. 20. Hanson figures to reprise his role as the nickel back in 2009 behind starters Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown.

Though under contract through 2011, Sheppard had been reportedly asking the Eagles to trade him after the team signed Samuel to a six-year contract on the first day of free agency a year ago.

Saturday, almost a  year later, Sheppard got his wish.

A two-time Pro Bowl player, Sheppard started last season as the team's nickel back but was eventually replaced in that role by Hanson. Sheppard saw action in all 16 games (3 starts) in 2008 and collected 23 tackles, one interception, five knockdowns and one forced fumble. He added a pair of tackle in the postseason.

A first-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2002, Sheppard notched 18 interceptions, including three returned for touchdowns, in 93 regular season games (61 starts) while with the team. He garnered Pro Bowl honors following the 2004 and 2006 seasons.

So Sheppard will be wearing green in 2009, just a different shade. He'll be playing in the east, the AFC East.
