More Dawkins Rumor Mongering
DAWKINS FINALLY A DONE DEAL IN DENVER
Posted by Mike Florio: Friday, February 27, 2009 9:29 PM After some conflicting reports on whether veteran safety Brian Dawkins had done a deal with the Denver Broncos, we're told that Dawkins finally has signed a contract to join the Broncos.Dawkins was drafted by the Eagles way back in 1996, and he spent 13 seasons in Philly.
Seeing him in anything other than an Eagles uniform will be as bizarre as seeing Brett Favre as a Jet or Mike Vick as a member of the Mean Machine. http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/

Andrew, I’m glad you bring up Brett.
It’s almost exactly the same thing. Why do you think the Birds only offered a 1 year deal

AFC West news: Denver signs safety Hill
February 27, 2009 9:42 PM
Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson
The Broncos inked their sixth player of the day, Miami safety Renaldo Hill. He will fill one of the safety spots while Denver hopes to finalize the Brian Dawkins’ deal, which could happen tonight. He is in Denver now and a two-year deal could be near completion. But until he is signed, don’t discount the idea of the Eagles’ star returning to Philadelphia.

Emmit Smith. Reggie White. Joe Montana…. There’s a many of these greats that hung on one more year or two somewhere other than where they became legends. UNfortuntaley seems like this is the case here.

They were cut loose
Dawkins is giving us and the team the finger by refusing to sign an offer from his team.
Perspective, please.

Refusing?
Are you kidding me? I’m sure he’d love to be back in philly, but as we all know, the nfl’s a business and Dawk has to do what is best for him.
Maybe next year

Refusing
If I make you an offer, and don’t to sign, yes, you are refusing.
The NFL is a business, but its also emotionally driven (i.e. fans).
Runyan and Trotter both resigned with the Eagles because of emotional reasons, despite being able to get more money elsewhere (Jets and Chiefs). You have to respect them for that. If Dawkins does not, I won’t respect him for his decision.

Ewing on the Sonics
Favre as Jet, Unitas as a Charger …
All good examples.
Also keep in mind that the Eagles choose to cut bait earlier rather than hang on too long, and they haven’t been burned by it yet.
Who regrets
Staley on the Steelers?
Vincent on the Bills & Redskins?
Taylor on the Seahawks
Douglas on the Jaguars?
Trotter on the Bucs?
Spikes on the 49ers even …
Their track record on these things is really good. Dare I say I trust the front office?
Granted, the morale hit is going to be unbelievable, and more with Dawk than any one of those guys.
But I would not be stunned to see it be a forgettable 1-year tenure in Denver rather than a Rodney Harrison-type career extension. Who knows.
There are definitely some details that need to be released to clarify how this went down to make me feel better about it. Which is really what’s important here.

I know Ewing is basketball
but it’s so forgettable & preposterous, it’s my example for this situation no matter the sport.
Carry on.

If he signs
He’s just proving his total lack of character.
Just move on.

Pissing you off?
No, Dawkins is pissing me off.
We fans have paid him $32 million through the team, and apparently are prepared to pay him $3 million more.
He apparently wants to tell us to piss off and go to the Broncos.

I don’t think it’s about money. I think he’d stay in Philly for less, but he wants a 2-year deal.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Eventually in life
… you sometimes have to do things because you love where you are at, and not because you can make the most money where you are at, and not because where you are at is the perfect career spot for you.
I can tell you I’ve done that. You settle for certain things at work because other things become more important to you than making the most money possible.
The one vs. two year thing is a shibboleth. Don’t think for a second the Broncos won’t drop him next year on a two+ year deal if he plays like crap. The only gaurantee in the NFL is money in your pocket this year.
If he doesn’t stay here, its a sign that he really never returned all the love to us that we gave to him; that he loved the money, not the team or fans. If that’s who he really is, let him go pretend to get worked up over beating the Raiders twice a year.

He hasnt signed with the broncos yet. He is probably just using their offer for leverage with the Birds. all players do that shit.
