Schefter: Dawkins visiting with Denver
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Brian Dawkins is on a flight to Denver to visit with the Broncos.
Dawkins is worth more to the Eagles than anyone else, which has hurt his contract negotiations. Now he's showing how serious he is about possibly leaving. Dawkins would play a Rodney Harrison-like leadership role for Josh McDaniels' Broncos, but a return to Philly still seems most likely.
[Note by JasonB, 02/27/09 1:52 PM EST ] promoted from fanposts... this would be a tragedy. Hoping Dawkins is just trying to set his market and give the Eagles a number to match.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
this would crush me
Seventy-one percent of the world is covered by water, the rest is covered by Brian Dawkins
:-(
this would piss me off soooo much. if they let dawk leave the ONLY WAY they can get away with it is by signing tj trading for boldin gettin lenord weaver and drafting a safety at the LEAST! this is such a sad thought.
I'd punch a Cowboys fan if this happened
I’d probably do that anyway

god damn
the worst part about this is that theres no way in hell im gonna sleep well until dawk resigns
It sucks to be a female Eagles phanatic - I'm actually crying.

Because only guys are into football, of course

Be six years younger...
Don’t panic yet, he could be setting the market for the Eagles. Remember what Moss did last year? Find the highest bidder than the Eagles give him a little less. I have to think this because I can’t deal with the reality of the situation…

Guys if we lose Dawk it will be no big deal
Listen, I would have Dawk’s children but it’s not like we’re losing our best player on defense. If here were to leave, someone else would step in at safety, and we would keep on keeping on. When we lost Trotter it stung like hell, but we ended up having a better defnse that year. If he stays, awesome, if he leaves, it was time.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Joe,
i respect you and all, i think you are one of the best poster here, but
SHUT THE F*** UP!
we need Dawkins
We need a heart to live.... Resign Dawkins, the heart of the Philadelphia Eagles!
I hate to say this but...
I think Joe_D is right. Dawkins is a Hall of Fame player for sure, but we can survive without him. Dawkins has been the fan favorite for a long time and he’s certainly a great mentor to the young guys like Demps & Hanson but a man can only play the game for so long before he’s not worth keeping around anymore.
And to be honest, Dawkins had a terrible NFC title game… There I said it.

It's not like this hasn't happened before...
A lot of great franchise players have left their teams during the sunset of their careers. If Dawk does move on, you can bet there will still be a huge ceremony when he retires as an Eagle in a few years, and Philly will show him the love.
It's not the first time he came up short in a meaningful game either
I admit, there will be plays made by Dawkins I will NEVER forget. He used to do it all, cover the run well, blitz, be great in pass coverage, and hit as hard as Steve Atwater. He’s a hall of famer and will always be an Eagle. It’s just that ..well… Time catches up to everyone.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Yeah, I think is more tragic from “my favorite player leaving” perspective an actual football perspective.
As long as Sheldon Brown is ready to lead the defense.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
As Sheldon said when Trott left
“A leader is someone who makes plays on the field.”

I just shot myself in the head. Twice. If ever there was a time that Andy could show he’s human, this is it. I will boycott if Dawkins leaves.
FUCKKKK
I come back to my room after failing my math midterm to fucking this?! I hear we offered him one-year deal and he’s going to test the market to see if he can get a multi-year deal.
and lets just be clear about one more thing
Dawkins and Trotter are two totally different stories… Dawk’s always been here and is an icon… the golden boy. Trott left for a division rival and then had to crawl back.
But more importantly, Trott was finished. Dawk is not!
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES
I am a Trotter fan, but let’s not forget that he was sometimes a divisive presence in the locker room. I don’t think he helped at all during the TO thing, though he meant well. He’s put his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion.
Both of them left it all on the field, but Dawkins has been nothing but the consummate pro, exemplary leader, and just an icon at a level above Trotter.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
This sucks
I really hope he retires an Eagle. Yes he may have lost a step but he is still a pro bowler and my favorite player. This is more of a travisty than when Brett Favre became a Jet it makes you feel dirty. Dawkins is a completely different case from trotter Dawkins is the epitome of what an Eagle player is. I really hope he is just testing the market.
The team won’t be better next year without Dawkins, plain and simple. If you want to fill that spot you need to find someone who is better enough on the field than Dawkins is to compensate for the loss of leadership and knowledge of the defense. He isn’t done on the field; for most of the second half of the season he was a one-man highlight real. And he sure as hell isn’t done as a leader – without Dawk I don’t think we’d have made the playoffs. With the stuff between Donovan and Andy, Andy’s personal problems coming off last season and late into this one; Dawkins was the rock in that locker room. He was the guy running down the bench firing people up.
He can’t do what he once did physically, and he’ll have his bad games. The exact same thing can be said for Donovan and for Westbrook. Guys make mistakes, for one thing, and for another thing the inconsistency is part and parcel with Eagles football under Andy Reid. We come out with a lot of lopsided game plans. We stop running the ball, the defense drops eight into coverage and our passing game looks bad. Same can be said for our coverage schemes. If we try to get pressure against a good passing team and don’t get there, our corners are going to look bad.
The combination of skill, experience with this defense, and leadership just simply isn’t something we’ll be able to replace.

Worst News of The Year
This can not happen.
Seventy-one percent of the world is covered by water, the rest is covered by Brian Dawkins

Just concentrate on that last part. I have a strong feeling he’s going to be getting a number for the Eagles to match. Which they will.
I hope…
FU FO!!!!!!!
Dawkins signed according to a “league source” for 2 years with the Broncos. This offseason is already a waste! What, are we down to 2 safeties now? Mikell and Demps, that’s it with Consi and Dawkins gone. I hate this! I don’t understand this! We have so much freakin money, and we can’t sign Dawkins! What a waste. Banner, you’re a freakin idiot!!!! Good luck replacing him ass-hole!
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
Wow ...
… I hope that’s not true. I would love to have Dawk back, as would we all.
However, now that I’m forcing myself to digest this as a real possibility and not as a market-setting venture … I’m going to lean Joe D’s way and agree that we’d miss him more from a spirit-of-the-team standpoint than an on-the-field standpoint.
It would be a crushing blow to the fanbase & city no doubt. Plus he’s one of McNabb’s biggest defenders in the locker room … there’s definitely going to be some collateral damage if he really leaves.
