Post midnight free agent rumor roundup
I'll keep updating this post as news trickles in. It's only about a half hour after free agency has started, so not much solid to report yet.
- Speaking on NFL Live just moments ago, T.J. Houshmandzadeh says he will have a visit lined up in the next 20 minutes. He said he gave his agents a list of teams he'd like to play for which include Philadelphia, New York Giants, Seattle, & Minnesota.
- Matt in the comments found this tip on the Eagles site. T.J. Houshmandzadeh sent a text message to 950 ESPN, a radio station in Philadelphia, that read "I don't know what's gonna happen, but if they want me, I will be an Eagle tomorrow."
- The Bengals website speculated that 27 year old free agent RT Stacy Andrews could end up with the Eagles
Last week, Lewis sure sounded like the Bengals thought they were close to a deal. Then nothing. Not usually a good sign, and the speculation has always been that a reunion was sought on the Philadelphia offensive line with brother Shawn Andrews or that the Jets have coveted him since they hosted him for a visit in restricted free agency.
- The Bengals are attempting to re-sign WR TJ Houshmandzadeh. ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that QB Carson Palmer is campaigning hard to keep TJ in town.
- The Redskins have made the first official signing of free agency, retaining CB DeAngelo Hall.
Hall reached an agreement with the Redskins on a six-year, $54 million deal that includes $22.5 million guaranteed and $30 million in the first three seasons.
The Redskins reportedly have just $8 million in cap space, with Hall making a portion of $30 million next year... The Skins may have to make some cuts before they sign every free agent available(as they've been rumored to do).
- It appears that the Eagles may have lost their first player, Fox Sports is reporting that Correll Buckhalter has already agreed to a contract with the Denver Broncos. UPDATE - ESPN's John Clayton reports that Buckhalter has not been signed by the Broncos, he will simply be visiting.
The Broncos have acquired two up two of them by agreeing to multiyear contracts with Correll Buckhalter (Philadelphia) and J.J. Arrington (Arizona) at the midnight opening of the signing period, FOXSports.com has learned. The deals will become official when both pass physical exams.
It was obvious the Eagles wouldn't bring Buck back, but it is surprising to see him sign so quickly.
- Highly coveted Ravens G/C Jason Brown will make his first visit to the St Louis Rams.
- The Rams are making lots of moves also scoring a visit with former Ravens LB Bart Scott.

Damn It!
Buckhalter will be missed UNLESS they have something brewing that hasn’t been made public yet.

Do we play Denver next year?
"If they end up 2-14 and both of those wins came against Dallas, that's a pretty good year."

I read that he wants to be “somewhere” by Saturday. I hope that somewhere is here.

Dawkins
Is anyone concerned about Dawkins? Will we still sign him?
Without him, we will have a GAPING hole at Safety!!

I think it’s a done deal already, just keeping it behind closed doors.

why
why? why if it is a done deal, would they keep in behind closed doors.? Not much of a tip to tip your hand to that!

If you have followed the Eagles in the past, they rarely “show their hand” until several deals have been completed which includes trades and signing their own.

Hey guys
I’m from MileHighReport…. just wanted to get some thoughts on Buckhalter signing with the Broncos…
Didn’t he have some knee injury issues?

lots, but he’s very effective when he plays. a lot of us wish he had more playing time here. I hear he is visiting right now though, didn’t sign yet…i think it’d be a good signing for denver though

Some knee issues?
Both of his knees are reconstructed. He’s had three major knee surgeries and missed three whole years.

Which are much, much cooler than his old knees. Buck was a coveted part of the thee headed monster we had way back. (when he had good knees). I don’t think he was ever as effective with new knees, but he was still an excellent back up to Westbrook.

He'll fit well
in Denver’s one cut zone blocking running scheme. He doesn’t dance and is the decisive slasher type back that works for Denver

Buck is all heart
Buck had 3 knee constructions that cost him 3 out of 4 seasons.
He has been healthy for the last 2 years or so. He is a good, strong running back with great hands and even better smarts. He is a class act player. He will be a great asset to the Broncos and sorely missed here in Philly. Good luck Buck!

He didn’t play in 02, 04 and 05 so he still has quite a bit of rubber left.

Jets Jets, 1 year
Our Take: The Jets made a smart move here. Richardson was an underrated reason why Thomas Jones so successful in 2008. — Tom Herrera

DeAngelo Hall, CB

Washington, 6 years

Canty’s not a good fit for Redskins
February 27, 2009 1:23 AM
Posted by ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley
Canty
There are a couple of reports out there suggesting the Redskins will make a play for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Chris Canty. He’s a guy who’s been playing in a 3-4 scheme ever since he came out of the University of Virginia, and I think he’d be a poor fit for the Redskins.
This is a club that desperately needs to improve its pass rush (28th in the league in sacks). Canty is a versatile guy who can move inside in the nickel and do a nice job. He’s also decent against the run. But he’s another guy who might have six or seven sacks a game at the most.

Jason Brown
What are our chances of getting Jason Brown?
by chrisbeomsuh on Feb 27, 2009 1:47 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I hope the chances are good…….
Sign TJ, Jason Brown, and Weever from Seattle. Keep Dawkins and Tra in the nest. Then trade our 2nd round pick for Gonzalez, and then still have the two 1st round picks.
I know maybe I’m dreaming a little bit but that’s not out of the question.

‘Housh’ staying in Cincinnati?
February 27, 2009 1:50 AM
Posted by ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley
The Bengals are close to re-signing wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, according to the National Football Post. The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are both interested in Houshmandzadeh.
Earlier in the day, Houshmandzadeh told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he hadn’t even talked to his agent Thursday. I find that really difficult to believe. Houshmandzadeh did acknowledge that quarterback Carson Palmer has been lobbying for him to stay.
Would the addition of Houshmandzadeh be enough to appease quarterback Donovan McNabb? I don’t think we’re going to find out.

More Housh updates
I don’t know if anyone has already posted this but I just read it off of the Eagles webstie rumor mill.
It was reported today that Cincinnati Bengal’s wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. who will hit free agency when the clock hits 12:01, sent a text to Philadelphia’s 905 ESPN that should create excitement in the Delaware Valley.
The text read, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but if they want me, I will be an Eagle tomorrow.”

"My first and foremost goal is to win a Super Bowl. I also set goals in terms of having a type of year to make the Pro Bowl. If I'm going to the Pro Bowl, I know I'm making plays for the team." Brian Dawkins

Haynesworth
Looks like he’ll be going to the Redskins for $100 mil with $41 mil guaranteed. Snyder is back to his old ways of throwing bunch of money at FAs. How could he think DeAngelo Hall is worth $54 mil?!
by chrisbeomsuh on Feb 27, 2009 5:51 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
how is that possible they only had about 8 mill under the cap
by 0sirys on Feb 27, 2009 6:51 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
only 1 year left on the Cap. Maybe they can make it a heavily back loaded contract, and worry about it when the new bargaining agreement is reached?
by Clyde Simmons on Feb 27, 2009 8:05 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i think they’d run into some rule problems doing that. something with percentage increases over the pevious year’s salary. and at this point, a new agreement can still be reached and avoid the nocap season… i don’t think you can roll the dice like that
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
