Madden Point of View
This may be the most ridiculous way to look at things, but I think that once you get past the silliness, you'll see the merit.
Many people on BGN have been talking about how the Eagles don't have a need in the receiver department, as long as we solidify some other positions (i.e. RB, OL, TE).
However, I STRONGLY disagree.
I think one of the best ways to see this is by playing Madden 09. Hear me out: When you play with the Eagles on Madden, there is just no WR weapon that defenses need to shift for, that has the size, strength, etc to open up the field in a big way. There is not a "go-to" player on 3rd and 10 for a close to guaranteed first down.
Or maybe I just suck at Madden.
Thoughts?

09 team
Madden doesn’t take into account that we could potentially lose both our starting tackle, back up running back, and starting TE. Also, the players in Madden perform based on how the people at Madden rate each player’s skill set. I think there is some room for bias and inaccuracy. Finally, I know Madden has been pushing to make the game harder, so it wouldn’t surprise me that 3rd and 10 is harder to convert now than it was three years ago, just because the game is harder.

look at teams that treat their franchise as a madden team…the cowboys…the raiders…just signing the biggest names and paying huge amounts of money for WRs and RBs galore. those teams are consistently mediocre…the cowboys are a bit different, because they are pretty good during the year, but then suck come playoffs, but the end result is the same…they treated their franchise like madden, and end up watching the playoffs from home. if you look at teams like pittsburgh (i’ll leave the eagles out, even though they have a similar strategy), who built their team on the draft, they’re more successful because they don’t blow everything on the big name free agents, and look to build a team, not glue one together.

I thought about the Cowboys scenario as well, even as I wrote.
They are amazing in Madden. I am not talking about building an All Pro team, but there is a clear whole where a playmaker (at both WR and TE) would make a heck of a difference.
I haven’t played the game in a while, but I just always thought it was an interesting, if not totally accurate, litmus test.

I like that analogy
"If they end up 2-14 and both of those wins came against Dallas, that's a pretty good year."

Nice trick for the draft in madden
If your team is undefeated after completing week 10, turn off the trade deadline and get ready to trade your draft picks. Go to the standings and find out who is in last place. Go ahead and trade your first round pick for their first, 2nd, and 3rd (yes it works). Then go to the 31st placed team and trade your 2nd and 3rd for their 1st and 3rd and 4th. You may be able to find a way to get their 2nd round pick too. Usually these teams will finish in the same place they were after week 10 so it leaves you with 2 top 5 picks in the draft. You can get the best players available. I do it every single season i play in franchise mode. Its kinda cheap but i love it. This is the most important though. *DO NOT PLAY ANY GAMES IN WEEK 11 BEFORE TRYING THIS. AFTER WEEK 11, THIS WILL NOT WORK UNTIL NEXT SEASON*

yeah it was a little off topic but i thought you guys might want to try it. Clearly no one knows about the trick. Especially since madden hasnt fixed it over the past 5 years.

problem with the madden theory is that i think by going with madden we would have been 12-4 this year based on espns madden simulations.
i do agree that TJ would help the team more than most people are giving credit. I don’t want to sign tj at the expense of other positions but being as he would go off the market first i think he should be made a top priority if the FO feels he can help the team

In my Madden 09 ...
the defense always doubles Curtis when they play me but he does average 200 yards and 3 TDs a game.

I kind of see what you’re saying… I play a ton of Madden and in my franchise this year I traded Lito and 2 picks for Calvin Johnson. I dominated from there on out (12-4 on All-Madden). CJ led the league in rec yards 1500+ and had 19 td’s… numbers I didn’t even get close to the year before with DJax or Curtis.

I’ve found that by trading for less expensive receivers like Josh Morgan from the Niners or Earl Bennet and building them n DJacks up, I got great receiving yards every year, and keep my first round picks

I FOUND WITH
an upgraded line and legitimate running threat, DMAC and our current receivers could tear things open
