Michael Smith, ESPN: McNabb wants roster upgrades
McNabb would like the Eagles to add to their already solid core pieces that would make them an even stronger championship contender before engaging in serious negotiations on an extension. McNabb, 32, is under contract for two more seasons.
Although McNabb wants to remain in Philadelphia, if the Eagles aren't successful in significantly upgrading an offense that needs help at wide receiver, running back and offensive tackle (veterans Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas are free agents beginning Friday), not only may McNabb drop his request for a new contract he may consider going as far as to ask the Eagles to trade him.
Complicating the matter is that any marquee free agent at the skill positions (such as Cincinnati wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh) or any player whom the Eagles may target in a trade (like Cardinals wideout Anquan Boldin or Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez) almost certainly would want assurance that McNabb is going to be in Philadelphia long ter

this doesnt suprise me
this is an almost annual thing, but McNab deserves it. all his career he has thrived with 2nd and 3rd wide receviers (negating 04) and played at the level of other Top QBs who have had those #1 WR, I can see why he wants out if the FO wont give him at least this. i really want to see what McNabb could of done earlier in his career if he did have a #1 WR all throughout his career
To me the Eagles are like that girlfriend that pisses u off, then u hate her, but the next morning you wake up and remember that thing u love so much about her

ive been one of McNabb’s biggest supporters from the get go, but i hope this isnt true because this is such crap. its perfectly acceptable for a franchise quarterback to ask for more weapons, but to insinuate that he wont play for a team that went all the way to the conference championship game unless they do so is way out of line. he signed a contract to play for this team. he should be worried about what HE (not the front office) can do to make the team a championship contender. And also, any team that is closer to winning a championship than the eagles already has a quarterback. the only possible destination that comes to mind is Minnesota and our recievers are much better than theres.
with all that being said I wouldnt read too much into this. its become a reoccuring theme in the NFL over the past year for reporters to twist words to make them something bigger than they really are. particularily in major markets like Philadelphia.
Confused
If this is true, what exact “upgrades” are we talking about? It’s not like we can go get Jordan Gross anymore. Or ask the Cardinals to give up Boldin. The free agency market is thin. We have the draft and trade possibilities but that’s it…
Also confused...
What I don’t understand is that I thought McNabb is the one who wanted the extension…now its coming out as if the team wants him to sign an extension…
Why did McNabb bring up contract talks if he didn’t really want to have them?
He deserves an upgraded offense
He has had a tremendous career with good talent around him never top flight except ’04. Give him a younger offensive line a short yardage run game and a great receiver like TJ and this offense will be a top three in the league. All of these issues can be addressed this offseason. TJ by free agency, wells or moreno in the draft and a good O lineman in the draft too. Lets give a top five Quarterback some top talent around him.
Its a ploy
He says he wants play makers every year and he never gets them now he has leverage
the eagles want him so he claims to demand a trade if they dont help him.
we all expect some big move with 40 million in cap room and McNabb knows that
if he doesnt get his man this off season he will end up signing that extention this season
do you really think if he is calling out for playmakers he will go to one of the teams that will trade for him I.E bears or vikings,
neither of them have playmakers with the exception of peterson. he has a better pass catching Running Back here and up coming recivers as well. he is happy here he just wants to get help. HE IS NOT LEAVING

I dont think he's gonna ask to be traded.
I think he just wants to get the FO focused on getting the gears moving towards signing someone like Housh or maybe trading for Gonzalez. I personally like the fact DMac is putting his money aside for the opportunity to win a Super Bowl.
"Now Sav Rocca played for the Magpies in Australia. I don't know if it's a bird or a pie or what it is." Ike Reese
Give him what he wants . . .
McNabb is the BEST QB to ever wear an Eagles uniform. IF the one year we had a “go-to” receiver we made the Super Bowl, then give him all or any “upgrade” WR we can (I know TO didn’t play in any playoff games but the point is that we where the scariest & most skilled team in the NFL when we had a “go-to” WR).
McNabb not only deserves an upgrade but also doesn’t have many years to prove how good he really is. Hell, he got us SO CLOSE with bitch made marks (Mitchell & Pak) who shouldn’t even be considered number 2’s on any other NFL team.
I am being greedy but everyone who wears midnight green knows we need JUST ONE “go-to” WR. From there, we WILL have a Super Bowl ring; if not many of them.

Anyone else willing to bet ...
that McNabb and the Eagles agreed to wait until after FA and the draft to do the extension and that is where this story is coming from.
And it’s not like the Eagles can make teams trade and they aren’t going to over pay. It’s retards like Jerry Jones who over pay that make teams think they can get more for players then they should. Thankfully our FO is not stupid and has been a perennial contender without breaking the bank or screwing the pooch.
"I need to do a better job of putting players in the right position to perennially come up short of expectations"
now that you point that out, that seems to be the most likely scenario (McNabb and the FO agreeing to wait till after free agency). but in this world of mass media reporters tend to report stories like this that will give them viewers/readers. I know that as soon as I heard this mentioned in a sportscenter commercial I kept the channel tuned to sportscenter to see what was going on.
This stinks of ...
… half grandstanding, half reporter taking a small nugget and making it “the” story.
Still, with a guy as media-savvy as McNabb, do you honestly think he accidentally says anything to these guys?
This is the kind of stuff we as fans should probably be unconcerned about. But we eat up any nugget of anything about our teams this time of year.
+1
and it’s columns like these that continue the same old twisted write-ups.

I’m still waiting for “Donovan McNabb” to be quoted in a story.
Anyone read that story?
How bout good ’ol Les Bown?
Someone create a FanPost when McNabb actually comments and we get actual results…
