Best Superbowl Ever?

Capt

via d.yimg.com

That was an absolutely fantastic game. That was truly a spectacle for the NFL. Great plays, great action... Just fantastic. It's hard to have perspective this soon after the game, but right now for my money that's the best Super Bowl I've ever seen.

That's SIX superbowls for PIttsburgh. Must be nice huh? (lamenting sigh...)

Pro Bowl

what’s the record for most pro bowl’s coached? Andy has to be up there.

It was a good game

I was coaxed into watching it even though I said I wouldn’t since the Eagles heart breaker. It really makes me want us to go out and get some big time players much like the 07 pats did (except win the SB). 6 Rings? Totally not fair.

I didnt even watch the game and i dont regret it at all

I am happy the steelers won. I dont like them much but for the cardinals to get a superbowl before we do would be a disgrace to the NFL.

by andyb on Feb 2, 2009 1:07 AM EST reply actions

Well

I thought about that too but how about a team winning 6 SBs and us not winning any. Both equally as disgraceful.

Why didn't they review that last fumble?

And why did they run the clock to 2:00 min warning in the first half? The Cards intercepted it with 2:03 to go. The guy was down and they ran two seconds off the clock to 2:01. It was at 2:01 for at least six seconds then they ran the last second off just to go to commercial. Anyway. Fuck both those teams, go Eagles.

I was surprised that they didn’t review it, but either way it seemed like a clear fumble to me.

by JasonB on Feb 2, 2009 10:08 AM EST up reply actions

I was worried that if they had reviewed it they would have called it a forward pass. In slow-mo it looked like a pass, while in normal speed it looked like a fumble. I really thought the first one should have been a fumble too. Can they throw a flag for intentional grounding after the review? Warner was being tackled and clearly tried to just get rid of it.

by Clyde Simmons on Feb 2, 2009 10:11 AM EST up reply actions

Lets be honest, I love Kurt, but he wasn't gonna make a deep enough pass at the end.

He had a rough time getting that ball out. He was really heaving that ball.

Although it clearly looked to be a fumble both during the play and on the replay, I think the officiating crew should have taken the time to review it. I mean, it was the play that would decide the game and determine who the champion is. Why not make sure of it?

It certainly would have been nice to see one final Hail Mary play to end the game rather than taking a knee.

by chrisbeomsuh on Feb 2, 2009 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

Even in fast motion I thought it was an incomplete pass and the replay clearly showed it was incomplete. Its a crime they didnt even take the time to review it and of course no one says anything about it cause they dont want a contriversy in the super bowl.

If the cards had gotten a hail mary off, i honestly think fitz would have caught it bacause he is the best reciever in the league. he catches EVERYTHING and times his jumps perfectly. Sad to see we will never know what would have happened…

Best superbowl ever

with 2 of the greatest plays in superbowl history, 100 yard int by a big man and the new immaculant reception. Atleast someone in PA won it. I watched every play, Rothlisburgher was amazing I give credit where it is due, but damn it hurt

best super bowl ever? it was good but not that good. last years was better. The plays were just as good and david beat goliath.

by bula412 on Feb 2, 2009 9:33 AM EST reply actions

I dunno about the best SB ever… Perhaps the best quarter ever. The first three quarters were actually hard to watch… Penalities, sloppy play, etc. It was an inconsistent game that no one wanted to win until the fourth quarter came around… Then everyone thought that maybe they should quit all the BS and play the game.

it pains me to say it, but the Cards looked like a legit superbowl team last night.

by Clyde Simmons on Feb 2, 2009 9:42 AM EST reply actions

Nice game, I didn't really cared who won though

I was pulling for the Cards though, but had no emotion about the outcome.

I think that it shows that its nice to have that famous number one receiver.

Also, I gotta take my hat off the Big Ben, he won that game for them with one money pass after another. He refused to lose. Hats off to him, I didn’t think he was that good of a QB. But he obviously has monster stones to do what he did yesterday.

Yeah he was great. So was Warner. We basically saw both QBs lead their teams on late game winning drives. It was great.

“Why Can’t McNabb Do That?” seems to the be the theme on philly.com today? Him, the receivers, both?

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

too many flags

to be the best ever. sure seemed lopsided in Pitt’s favor too.

by jhavrk8 on Feb 2, 2009 10:45 AM EST reply actions

it was almost like....

the refs called that safety from the holding penalty to try and even things out. It was pretty ridiculous

by Matt Millz on Feb 2, 2009 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

i didn’t see it that way man… look, the center went down and basically pulled Dockett (I think it was Dockett) down with him… you have to make that call, especially in the endzone… it wasn’t an “even out” call… it was the right call…

One of my friends called it, “a really boring game with a great ending.” That kind of summed it up.

I think much more highly of Roth…roethelsberg, roethlis…Big Ben than I did before.

Big time,

You know what I found most amazing. Thank Tomlin even called a pass play. If you recall earlier in that drive, Big Ben was almost picked off. They came right back with another pass, already have a tie locked, running that risk of a pick. Making the key (agressive) call, money pass, and big time catch. There was so much to lose with that call and pass, but sooooo much to gain.

If I were a coach, I would have called all runs, as to not have a chance of an interception. But they got it done. Thats what you got to do to win. No excuses, Man up and get it DONE. Good Job, to the entire Pittsburgh team. Altough I thought Warner had a very good game as well.

How in the world do you let Harrison go 100 yards?

That was the ballgame. Take that away and I think the Cards win by 10 or more

that was rediculous, but then I remember that it happened to us on picks and blocked punts like 3 or 4 time this year.

And it happened just before the half. Wow, that reminded me so much of an Eagles game.

It was a fantastic game

but I gotta say last year’s was better. This year’s may have had more good plays (100 int return by a LB what?!), but between the Helmet Catch and the comeback win last year, it has to rank higher. Specifically considering the history of that game. As many people as there were that picked the Steelers this year, who thought the Giants would win last year? That was an upset that will likely never be forgotten. I’m just glad we had two good Super Bowls in a row. That never happens.

You would think so with all his sacks

but he is actually an outside linebacker. Here is his NFL.com profile:

Not even close

I can name 4 Super Bowls off the top of my head that were just as good, if not better than this one. The one that is definitely better is last years, even though I hate to give any credit to the Giants or the Patriots.

Other possibilities: XXXIV – Rams vs. Titans; XXXVI – Patriots vs. Rams; XXV – Giants vs. Bills

Don’t get me wrong, this game was thrilling, but sloppy and just really good in the 4th quarter.

by Matt Millz on Feb 2, 2009 2:47 PM EST reply actions

I think, not counting the one the Eagles were in (which wasn’t one of the better ones, anyway, to be objective, probably somewhere in the middle of the pack), that Rams vs. Titans is still my favorite.

I had no real rooting interest in that one, either, but unlike this year, I was pretty neutral to both teams rather than disliking both.

Last year was a great game, too, but Giants vs. Patriots — ugh…how can that be fun for an Eagles fan?

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

by BrianS on Feb 2, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

I hate both the Giants and Patriots so much that I was torn about who to root for. Ultimately, I decided I should root for the Patriots because at least I wouldn’t have to listen to how the Giants pulled off the greatest upset of all time. We all know how that ended.

I have come to the realization that of all the Super Bowls I have seen (since ‘90) have only been “great” if the Giants are playing, or if Kurt Warner is on that team. I hate HATE HATE the Giants, and I’m not a big fan of Warner either, so this comes across as weird to me.

by Matt Millz on Feb 2, 2009 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

At the end of Harrison's 100 yard run

Larry Fitz came from out of bounds to tackle harrison at the 5 yard line. is that legal? both his feet were out of bounds.

Phinally!!!

by bdawk20 on Feb 2, 2009 4:54 PM EST reply actions

I think that is only illegal on a punt, or a kick return. Even if it was illegal, I don’t think the penalty could have been worse than the touchdown, which gives Fitzy a good reason to at least try.

by Matt Millz on Feb 2, 2009 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

on a kick or punt a player on the kicking team cannot voluntarily go out of bounds … other then that the only other rule is that player can’t go out of bounds and be the first to touch the ball, the rules say nothing about tackling another player. At least to my knowledge.
