Eagles & McNabb not talking contract yet
Despite various conflicting reports in different local media outlets, Donovan McNabb's agent Fletcher Smith said that there has been no meetings about the QB's contract yet.
Smith said he expects to get to Indianapolis, site of the NFL Scouting Combine, tonight for tomorrow's meeting of player agents. Smith said he and Eagles president Joe Banner generally have lunch together after that meeting, and Smith said he expects that will be the case this year, as well. So the talks very well could start then, but Smith emphasized that nothing has been set up.
It's hard to figure out how much urgency there is for these negotiations. Would McNabb want a deal done now, or is this something that could wait until the post draft period? It would seem to me that either the Eagles get something done before free agency starts, or the McNabb negotiations might be put on hold for a while.
It would seem that the summer, when the Eagles have done their free agency and draft business, would be the ideal time to sit down with McNabb and talk about an extension.

I don't understand why Donovan isn't happy with his contract?
He is one of the highest paid players on the team. I don’t know if he just wants security since his money isn’t guaranteed, or he wants to get paid more. How much is he worth for 2 years? Do we keep him longer? I am confused by this whole mess.
City of Champions!
Basically, right now his contract is full of uncertainty. If something were to happen, we could simply dump him for almost nothing. He has no security at all within the contract. Although you could also say that he is free to opt out after this year and go wherever he wants (a feature that will disappear if his contract is restructured).
"I tried to run him over but Eli had his big boy pads on and he kind of stopped me from getting in the end zone. The next time I’ll try to jump over his head.’’ - Asante Samuel
yeah I think it’s a combo he doesn’t want to risk getting injured in which case opting out and going to another team might not yield as much money as he can get right now so he wants the security. And the Eagles should want to lock him up for the next few years.
