Saints release RB McAllister

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3913182

he would be a great compliment to westbrook. size and power near the goal line. injuries and his age would be the biggest issues but he is def someone who the team should look at. he would not carry that big of a price tag. i think he fits the eagles much better than fred taylor would. he would have a greater value to the team than buck. this is all hypothetical of course.

I don’t think either would be a viable option for the Eagles. Forget Fred Taylor. Too old, too injury prone, not the power-back compliment to Westbrook. Deuce fills the short yardage need but he is again too old and too injury prone. Neither guy should even be on our radar IMO.

i agree

injuries is a big issue however i would still love to have him. if we get him i would use an other 4th round pick on a possible big back and i would me more than happy with our back feild

pass

no likey injuries… plus he’s old. i think we could invest that money somewhere else or in someone else in that position

Agreed,

Why don’t we just get Steven Davis for that, or heck, Shawn Alexander. He got cut because he’s DONE.

But is more of an asset at this point.

PASS

he was under contract until 2012 if they thought he was worth anything they would have dangled him out there for trade … obviously they have no faith why should we, teams don’t release assets, they release liabilities.

if we can sign him for cheap i wouldnt object. give him a small two year contract and see what he can do. best case scenario he bolsters our running game, worse case scenario is he has an injury riddled/unproductive season and we cut him. sure teams release liabilities but a change of scenery can do wonders for some players. I see it as a low risk/high reward acquisition.

Whoodie

your right teams release liabilities. he is with out a doubt a liabliity to a team who needs cap space and is paying too much for someone who has bisicly fell to the 3rd spot. he wouldnt be a liability to a team who only has one back and needs somthing to hold them over for a while. if we can get that “small two year deal” i feel it would be worth it. he will be that off season aqusition who could be cut anytime. i doubt at 8 years into his career he is completly over. with that being said he is not a starting back and would not be worth more than 2 years.

IF the price is right take him

by NickPampani on Feb 17, 2009 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

the thing is, I think any price that he’ll want will be too high versus the risk… you also have to take into consideration that signing him wouldn’t be in a bubble by itself. it’ll affect our cap space… space that could be used to get someone who is less of a risk… even if that person costs a bit more. i think the lower risk would be worth paying a bit more money.

I understand what you and njh are saying he’s right at the franchise number for RBs which is a lot to pay and I’m guessing his contract would have made it hard for him to trade. But will he really take that much of a pay cut? I’d rather have Bucky back personally,

I'd rather Buck too

Buck knows the system and is a good pass blocker and decent receiver…

Buck is probably gonnna want more money than the FO is willing to spend on a back-up.

by Bliz on Feb 18, 2009 12:44 AM EST up reply actions

just throwin it out there, part of the concern people have with deuce is that hes been injured, but buck’s had the same ACL problems. And im not saying that i would rather have deuce than buck, because i think buck is better, but it’s the simple fact he doesn’t get as much use as he should. So bringing in someone like deuce (of course only if his price is reasonable) or a rookie i think is better for the team since the coaches might actually give them some reps.

just playing devil’s advocate here… why would the coaches give someone new more reps than someone who has been in the system for 5+ years and has actually proven that he produces when called upon.

Well, Buck does know the system and produces well when called upon, but the problem is we need someone who is effective within the system, but also contributes enough to take some hits off of Westbrook. How many more years can the guy perform well when hes too hurt to practice the entire second half of the season? I like Buck and if the coaches show a willingness to play him more than I’m totally fine with keeping him, but as stands now that hasn’t been the case.

Need someone just not deuce...

I don’t disagree that they don’t use Buck enough…I just think their best bet is to get a quality #2 RB in free agency or the draft (not counting duece as a “quality #2”)…and if they can’t do that, then keep Buck…
