How much for Tony Gonzales?

As I have thought more and more about  trades I would like to see, there is one that sticks out to me as the best scenario for the Eagles.     I know, I know, you all want to trade for Anquan Boldin but I just don't see it happening.    I think a trade for Gonzales is marginally possible.    That being said, I have three questions for you fellow Bird brains.

  1. How much do you think the Chiefs will take to get rid of Tony Gonzales?
  2. How much would you be willing to have the Eagles give up to get Tony Gonzales?
  3. How much do you think the Eagles would be willing to take to get Tony Gonzales?

I agree

A good TE is worth more to us right now than a good WR. Not that I wouldn’t love Boldin, but…

That being said:

"How close did the Eagles come to getting nine-time Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez on Tuesday? Not very.

Chiefs president Carl Peterson told the Daily News today that it would have taken at least a second-round pick and probably more to get him to part with Gonzalez.

Peterson said three teams – believed to be the Eagles, Packers and Giants – made offers for Gonzalez before the trading deadline. But none of the offers included a second-round pick.

I’m guessing it would take AT LEAST a third rounder, probably more. He tore it up after not being traded last year. Would we give up that much? Maybe having two firsts makes us more likely to do so, but normally I’d say no.

Also

Peterson is gone, Pioli is in. Don’t know how that changes things. If anything, maybe he’ll want to get rid of the old timers.

would we really trade for a WR if we could just sign one as a free agent? Obviously no more LJ Smith but who then? I feel like Reid believes Celek is their guy. Im not so sure. I doubt Gonzalez will be here next year. go birds

I think I read the eagles offered a third round pick. Is it really definite that LJ is gone? Who was impressed by him last year? The eagles thought enough of him to franchise him. Anyone like Bo Scaife?

Like Scaife...

I like Scaife and think he would be a pretty good fit…I kind of like Owen Daniels from the Texans too who is a FA…

A Restricted Free Agent

Which makes things more complicated.

3rd or 4th round pick, and a 3rd is pushing it. guy has 1-3 years left tops and hes said it himself numerous times.

If we get Housh and Gonzo...

We are basically making a very small window to win with two guys already in their 30s…plus McNabb in his 30s…I would like to see some younger guys brought in on the offensive side (like Boldin) to go with the young defense to set us up for a few years…if not we stand to lose the majority of our offensive weapons in the next couple of years and we’ll be starting over (except DJax)…

by PoppiDamus on Feb 12, 2009 4:46 PM EST reply actions

its through free agency(aka we still have draft picks)

and boldin is like 1-2 years younger than housh

2 first rounders this year 10 overall draft picks

dont worry :P:D:D

3 Years is a lot in NFL terms

Boldin is 3 years younger…Most WRs have their best years right around Boldin’s age between 27-30…

Another name worth mentioning

Heard the rumors about Kellen Winslow? I’ve heard we’ve inquired about him. He’ll be only 26 next season. Would the Browns let him go? What would it cost?

I meant Kellen Winslow II

The fuckin’ soldier. Not his dad – he’s like 51 ;-)

We tried to go after him right?

This is what I’ve heard repeatedly and not that you can ever have proof of these things, but who reported this – do you know?

by ajay on Feb 12, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

26 year old with that much talent would command as much if not more then a 1st and 3rd. id love Winslow but I’m a little hesitant to bring in a guy with a mouth as big as his game. before anyone says “oh he was just mouthing off because his team sucked and didnt treat him right”, we said the same thing about T.O. Players that have a history of being a pain in the ass will always find something to complain about whether its legit or not. Who knows what Winslow
s true character really is, but id be willing to take a chance on him.

Not sure I'd compare him to TO

He has character issues, but he hasn’t danced on any team logos or called any of his teammates gay as far as I can tell…

I live in cleveland

and the browns are my 2nd favorite team

kellen winslow II is a team player and although he is cocky, he doesnt let it take him over.
as in he doesnt whine when he doesnt get the ball and wouldnt throw a fit about mcnabb and westbrook going to dinner together and not inviting him lol @ TO being a little puss

I’m not sure what he has done with his big mouth to warrant any concern. His soldier comments in college were referring to him injurying a player and then taunting him and it was a bad move by a young passionate kid.

Other then that I’ve only heard him speak out against the Browns once because he was hospitalized with a staph infection and the team had a history of these and in his opinion did nothing to prevent it, which I can understand.

I’d take him over TG fa sho.

He seems pretty passionate about one thing to me, his team. Thats all the info I need on the guy if the Eagles were going to go after him.

What about his injuries?
