Eagles are Recovering

With all the injuries we have had this season, its time everyone gets healthy and ready for the remaining 4 games of the season.  These are big games, which will help lead us to a possible NFC East Division title and playoff run.  We have a lot of people who are banged up but I wanted to focus on just a few – especially after the news I received about Maclin.

Jeremy Maclin – Looks like he has a should sprain which occurred in week 13 and the most surprising news is that it has been mentioned that Maclin is suffering from plantar fasciitis, the same thing that Eli Manning is suffering from. Should we be concerned? This cannot be good.

Desean Jackson – He plans on playing this coming Sunday night in our Prime Time game against the Giants but he will be undergoing more evaluations today.  I guess we’ll see if he is able to play when it’s game time.  As I’m sure we all want him out there.

Jason Peters – Suffered a head/shoulder injury and nothing much has been said about it.  Peters claims he did not suffer a concussion.  Reid took him out as a precautionary action and was kept out of the game on Sunday against Atlanta due to us man-handling them.

Brent Celek – Thumb sprain.  He seems to be nervous about it but is still gonna be out there playing. I say nervous because he didn’t start the game off all that great against Atlanta.  I am hoping he’ll be back to 100% this week against the Giants.

Akeem Jordan –  He was practicing a little bit last week but was still held out of the game.  He will be practicing fully this week and should be good to go for the Giants.

Kevin Curtis – It has been mentioned he will be practicing this week with the Scout team, but he has already missed almost all of the season so I’m not getting my hopes up.

Brian Westbrook – Monday Reid stated there is a chance he could be back practicing this week but we’ll have to wait and see.

With everyone on the verge of coming back from injury, it couldn’t be at a better time.  I just hope that they remain healthy for the rest of the season (and post-season of course!)  The Giants won’t know what hit them!

(Knocking on wood)

Just hearing that there’s a chance Westbrook and Curtis could possibly play in this game is exciting news. I didn’t think we’d get anything out of Westy or KC for the rest of the season (or ever again, for that matter).

The Eagles are the first team in NFL history to have a running back and a wide receiver with 500 yards apiece in the same season before their 22nd birthdays.

Having said that, I most certainly expect Curtis to be inactive this week and Westbrook most likely as well. If he is active, I expect him to be very limited. But this doesn’t bother me. I’d rather have Westy and KC for a late run into and through the playoffs rather than risk further injury this week.

BTW… it’s obvious KC won’t get his starting job back, but to have a guy like him as your 4th or 5th receiver can’t hurt.

Here’s hoping we can get through this week without any serious injuries.

kevin curtis in my humble opinion is one of the most underrated recievers in the league

routes, catching ability, breaking tackles, size…he has it all except speed

He does have speed! Curtis used to be one of the fastest cats in the League!

His college Forty time was Ridiculous!!! He prolly wont have that now cuz he injured mainly..his lower extremities!! ha

He has had plenty of speed though

please… please! keep 36 out for the season. McCoy is doing just fine and Weaver is doing a admirable job stepping in. Let Westy fully recover instead of rushing him in so he can be a full go next season and not get a third concussion now and fuck his life up

yeah we have had enough people pleading for that

and i am one of them

as much as i would love to see westy runnin all over the giants and playin hard in the playoffs (knock on wood) i dont want that to be at the expense of the rest of his life

I’m with you on that. I say keep him out and let him fully recover. Especially if you got him practicing… make sure its not contact, just walk throughs.

Now if we made the Superbowl (knock on wood) would you keep him out then? Thats a tough call, only because you know he would be dying to get in here and help the team.

BTW

Andy said Maclin’s injuries are more just minor, nagging injuries. As long as he continues to practice, I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Yeah I read that too but it’s his rookie year and plantars faciitias can only get worse. So it concerned me a little but I’m not really concerned in regards to the next couple games but I just hope it doesn’t start bothering him more.

i was at first torn between him and peters, but i think winston justice has earned at least the benefit of a doubt so far

Justice plays on the right. Herremans would start at LT if Peters is out. Thank God no more Dunlap! I actually voted for Peters, dude is an absolute beast and irreplaceable. Maclin, Avant,Reggie and Celek can handle the Giants poor secondary and linebackers. Cowboys had over 400 yards of offense against them past Sunday.

I voted for Peters too

DeSean is electric, no doubt…he provides the big play…

But without Peters, our offense faces the real potential of just not getting going AT ALL!!! With that said, I was impressed with Herremans.

herremans is a warrior

i remember him playing left tackle when peters went out and even though he struggled, he did his job…reid is right herremans IS a pro bowler

But without Peters, our offense faces the real potential of just not getting going AT ALL!!!

if you think about that, its kinda sad isn’t it?

Maclin's injury

Doesn’t worry me. Manning’s Plantar fascitiis was more severe since you could notice the obvious limp when he hopped. With some rest Maclin’s shouldn’t be near as bad and since his body is more accustomed to running and cutting, that kind of movement should not have to much effect on the injury. The severity of his injury is not anything to worry about yet barring a freak accident (knock on wood).

by macjack09 on Dec 8, 2009 12:11 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Some notes from Philly.com...
A pair of new bumps, to rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin, don’t have Reid worried – neither the sprained shoulder, suffered Sunday, nor the plantar fasciitis in his foot, a lingering injury from last week. Maclin injured both on special-teams plays, Reid said.

Hopefully those bumps won’t take anything away from his game. It seems he suffered the plantar fasciitis last week and not this past Sunday. He looked like he didn’t lose a step after that injury. He actually seemed the fastest he has been all season.

Guard Stacy Andrews remains gimpy due to lingering effects of offseason knee surgery – he has missed the last three games – but wideout Kevin Curtis, who missed the last 10 games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, will begin working on the scout team this week . . . and could even play against the Giants.

Maybe, some of us(including me) can lay off Stacy a little bit. He is still injured. It’s just the fact that even at 75 to 85 percent, he hasn’t even shown a glimpse that he can be good. That is what bothers me. Reid knows his linemen so I will trust him on that one.

Nickel cornerback Joselio Hanson returned from a 4-week suspension for violating the league’s ban on performance-enhancing substances. Andy Reid hopes Hanson can step back into his crucial roles but made no promises, since Hanson has not been allowed to practice with the team for a month.

The Eagles had to make a roster move to accommodate Hanson. The casualty was rookie wide receiver Jordan Norwood, signed off the practice squad last week. Norwood can be claimed by another team or signed to a practice squad.

I have never been this excited for a nickel corner’s return. Hanson solidifies our corner position.

Jackson, Peters, Jordan, and Hanson I’m positive they will play this Sunday. Kevin Curtis is a maybe but I doubt it, most likely he will return the following week.

12-4 baby!

I know Reid wants to see what kind of shape Hanson is in after missing a month of the season. That can be a long time depending on what he has done in that time. He might play but there is a chance it is very limited.

I agree with those four playing. I don’t think there’s any question that the guys you mentioned will play this Sunday.

But what’s your take on Westbrook?

I doubt he plays this week, but from what I’ve been hearing, it’s sounding more and more likely that he will play sooner or later. Are you okay with that?

I understand people being against it, period, no matter what. I don’t want him to risk his livelihood either, but I trust the doctors (and Westbrook) to decide what is best for him. If there’s any risk of serious long-term damage then I trust they will bench him for the rest of the season. If not, I say let him at least get a few touches later this season or in the playoffs, if anything, as just a decoy.

by Smitty2K3 on Dec 8, 2009 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

I want Westy to play again this year but only if he is fully recovered plus a couple weeks extra rest on top of that. It seems he has made great progress and will be cleared to play in a week or two. I’m not just wanting him to play because he is my favorite player, I want him to play for himself. He is 30 and close to retirement, if he can play this year, let him play. Next year McCoy might be better than a 31 yr old Westbrook causing him to lose his starting job. I say let him loose against the Broncos and let us ride him(sparingly) to the promised land.

Completely Agree

If he feels good, tests out well, and is ready to play, let him play! He doesn’t even have to start.

Gotta Go With Akeem

We Need D vs The Gmen………And He Can Certainly Help us there…..I know every1 hates Reggie But him and Maclin and Avant Can get us thru this wk as long as the line gives Mcnabb time to throw the ball and open up lanes for weaver and shady. As far as Maclin yes we have to be a lil concerned he basically has a strain on the bottom of his foot but Eli’s is way more severe in that he had the fascia issue as well as the stress reaction which can develop into a fracture without proper rest. Herremans was out for 4wks with the same injury. so Maclin should be fine when put in that context

by CJ's Eagles on Dec 8, 2009 12:56 PM EST reply actions

That's why I voted for Peters

We can get by without DeSean IF Mcnabb has time…without Peters, there are no promises that he’ll have that time.

Curtis haha Yea right! Im with u Eaglesgrl5 !!

Curtis doesnt need to be “that guy”, but it would be awesome if we had him, Maclin and Djax together. Wow..that could be one of the fastest WR corps in the league. No joke. BUT..Curtis has missed soo much time and it’s gonna take time for him to come back. Though he could come back soon though..who knows. He’s a long shot in my eyes and no hopes up. I would’ve IR’d his butt a long time ago and moved on. I would’ve kept Danny Amendola and Gibson. Then to get Spoon I would’ve traded a pick and Amendola first. If they didn’t want him, then and only then, I would’ve given them Gibson! Definitely would’ve IR’d Curtis though. But thats why im not a head coach..cuz what if he does come back! Again..I dont have my hopes up!

I Mean Peters is Important but..........

In the Oakland game we didn’t have Herremans either…..and when Peters goes out Herremans has done an EXCELLENT job filling in for him @ tackle……….so I Still gotta go with Akeem Because we need D on the Road. Lets go Eagles!!

Shit man, we need to get healthy!!!!

Peters is the key here as he busts some huge holes for McCoy/Weaver and our other skill guys are good enough tod ice up the gmen defense.

all of em

the fact that we can’t decide which one we need most really tells you we need ALL of them back…

Kind of pointless

To make prognostications on Tues. about how will play on a game on Sunday doesn’t mean much.

by MG77 on Dec 8, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Peters by far

And it isn’t even close because Herremans has generally struggled at LT and it means that Jean-Gillies (who played poorly last week and has struggled much of the season) comes in at LG.

Least important is Curtis. He has been a complete non-factor in the limited time he did play. Eagles can get the same production from Reggie Brown if needed.

It isn’t so much about getting Jordan back as it is being able to move Witherspoon back into the middle and taking Fokou off the field entirely. Mays/Trotter actually have played a bit better lately but they are still a huge liability against the pass.
