Opposite from Cole
Saw this comment in Paul Domowitch's Eagles-Falcons Second Take article today:
"Victor Abiamiri was the Eagles’ starting left end for the first 5 games, then missed three games with a knee injury. Since coming back, his playing time has been limited. Juqua Parker has started the last six games at left end and has taken most of the snaps there. When he’s needed a blow, Sean McDermott has replaced him with Jason Babin rather than Abiamiri. Abiamiri’s only snaps have been coming as a nickel tackle."
Doesn't surprise me that much especially Parker has generally produced in his limited time during his time in an Eagles' uniform and Babin has shown a spark at times although he been less impressive every week it seems. Abiamiri (when healthy) just doesn't get to the QB much and his ability to hold his ground even against the run is overrated.
Maybe it is a bit premature to list Abiamiri as a "bust" but I haven't seen much from Abiamiri this season even when he was healthy expect for the 1st game of the season except Carolina. Considering that Cole draws so much attention, you would think that Abrimiri would be able to make more plays since he largely draws 1-on-1 coverage.
The Eagles are getting production from the DE oppsite Cole if you take their cumultative stats including 6 sacks from Thomas (and 2 FF), 2.5 sacks from Babin, and 1.5 sacks from Abiamiri. I would be curious to see what their other stats look like including pass deflections, tackles for a loss, and QB hits/hurries. It does seem though that the constant attention that Cole draws.
There are lots of mention on defense on who is the MVP so far but I would give my nod to Cole. Well on his way to another double-digit sack season despite facing a ton of double teams and plenty of attention from opposing offensive coordinators.
Any thoughts or stats to share?

And I would like to marry Megan Fox
Problem is, it’s not realistic.
Aaron Kampman, however, will be much cheaper and would be nearly as effective. That’s who I would go after
He’s injured, right?
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
Eh, do we really want to sign another injured FA? Really?
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
no way........
we dont need anymore damaged goods, i never thought kampman was that good anyway even before his injury, but then again wat the fuk do i kno?

kampman
was a beast as a DE but as a OLB he’s not as good, never played LB in his life so it’s his first crack at it. He’s like Cole, a nonstop motor and good at defending the run as well. If we got Kampman and had him for 3 to 4 years I’d be stoked.
I watch him a lot living in Wisconsin….he still has it as a DE.
Why marry???
I have the feeling she’s the cheating variety… give me a good year-long fling to get it out of my syste, then find a nice girl who’s worth marrying
as far as DE’s, I think we’re going to be drafting one rather than signing one since that’s tended to be our modus operandi.
Not Peppers....
I wouldn’t take Peppers. Peters handled him well….and when they moved him over to Justice side, he did ok against Peppers too. I say look in the draft or among our current young players.
DE and LBs.........
Bradly Spoon and Jordan Sounds great……….But Like this yr If Injuries start to Occur we need solid depth. I dont want to see Joe Mays Or trotter……….Out there consistently…….
Trotter was pretty impressive yesterday
especially on that goal line stand
"It's unfortunate that happened. That's no excuse. Absolutely no excuse."
-Andy Reid
Would never happen but.................
i would dump Bradley in fuckin heartbeat if we had a shot at Demeco Ryans.
I would like a safety
While our right D ends aren’t stellar, I feel like they are better in their position then whoever we have at FS. I know sean jones has been playing ok, but I would really like to get a high impact safety to secure the secondary.
yeah
I’d like to see them go after OJ Atogwe. The only safety I really like in the draft, Eric Berry, will be long gone before we pick. There are a few good defensive ends who will be available later in the first round like Derrick Morgan. Or we could go after a guy like Brandon Graham in the second round.
For now, though, less Juqua Parker, more Jason Babin please. He was a former 1st round pick.
The safety from UGA is pretty damn good
forget his name. I don’t know if he’s a 1st rounder, but he may be lying around in the 2nd.
I think Otogwe is going in for season-ending shoulder surgery soon. He’s amazing but, like Kampman, I’m not sure I want to sign another high priced FA coming off of injury.
Let the beasting begin.

I think we're fine at Safety
Between Sean Jones and Macho…we’re good there both long term and in the interim.
I’m not impressed with Demps at all!

i agree...............
i think were hopefully gonna start to be really surprised with Seans play at the end of the year, he finally looks comfortable in his role.

They have spent a LOT of time
rehabbing Abiamiri and it really hasn’t paid off. Remember his broken wrist last season? I think the guy is just to brittle. Babin is a beast and a very exciting player, but he’s not consistant. Parker is certainly good, but not quite great. The pressure has been good, but the sack count in looking more like 2007 than 2008 – well, maybe not that bad, but not terrific, either.
Trade or draft, you are right, an upgrade is in order.
how bout...............
we break the bank (assuming CBA is agreed upon which it will be) and go after ELVIS PRESLEY DUMERVIL? Just a thought, or how bout a bargain but nontheless effective player in the Bears Adewale Ogunleye???? The bears are loaded with DEs so this one makes more sense. I dont know about drafting a DE, there are gonna be a lot of available DEs, good ones who can be had without dishing out insane contracts.
Dumervil's a beast
but I can’t imagine the Broncos will even let him sniff free agency. I’d lock him up long term so fast, and make it worth his while

Isn't Dumervil a 3-4 OLB?
That transition isn’t always an easy one. I’d need to look it up, but I don’t think he’s ideal size to play as a 4-3 end. I’m not sure he’d be a good fit even if we could get him.
Hmmm, you're right
I had to look it up at your mention, but he’s only 5’11", 248…WAY too small to fit DE in our system

isnt that about the size of Cole???
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
you serious????
Cole is 6’3" 275…
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

your right hes 6'3" but only 270...
He was pretty small when he got here.. 5’11" and 248 isnt bad for our system
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
Darren Howard and Juqua Parker, and Chris Clemons
are all between 245-260lbs (slightly taller than Elvis, but same general size), and in our system, they are pure pass rushers, Parker often does play the first couple downs against the run, but he isn’t good there.
Abiamiri, Cole, and Babin are all 6’3" or taller and around 270lbs.
To give it more perspective, Elvis is the EXACT same size as Joe Mays, and Leonard Weaver…it’s tough to ask those guys to defend the run directly against 6’5"+ 310lb+ offensive tackles.
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
Guys who would fit our system better are
Justin Tuck: 6’5" 274lbs
Jared Allen: 6’6" 270lbs
Richard Seymour: 6’6" 310lbs
Freeney: 6’1" 270lbs
Trevor Pryce: 6’5" 290
Obviously not saying that we’re even looking at these guys b/c they aren’t available…but it’s considering the size difference between a 3-4 OLB and a 4-3 DE

good point but...........
ill take a guy who goes nonstop 100mph every play over a guy whos the size of a mountain. That being said tho i kno denver is a 3-4 i was just thinking out loud (or on the net lol) , and yeah chances are he will never even get the chance to sniff free agency.
I hate to beat a dead horse,
But that was why a ‘little’ guy like Dan Klecko was a Defensive Tackle for so long. His heart was bigger than a mountain. Those guys are few and far between.
yea
and why his bitch ass got cut .. fuck dan klecko he sucks .. and i hate how everyont gives him credit for being good cuz he plays diff positions and sucks at them .. hes a florified rudy .. he trys hard but who cares .. try try and try again .. but the lazy talented player will still outperform u

He wasn’t a bad DT. He had 2 sacks in four games, or 8 sacks if he stayed a DT for all 16 games.
And his fullback blocking stint? Well, he blocked better then than MJG’s blocking this year.
but the lazy talented player will still outperform u
Tell that to Bruce Gradkowski and JaMarcus Russel.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Micah Johnson???
Then move Gocong to LDE…

whether or not we get a top of the line free agent, we should still draft a DE early

Clemons needs to step it up.
He has a big contract and he should produce more.
Last year he did it at the right time. I am hoping he does the same.
He is supeeeerrrr fast of the snap, he should get way more sacks then he has so far.
I was thinking today
that I haven’t seen anything from Clemons…is he even getting on the field with Babin here?

is he still on this team? any one know his contract ..he needs to be cut .. what a waste of money .. a undrafted FA .. who sucked in washington .. had 8 sacks in oakland .. and than sucked here

exclusively plays as the Joker on 3rd down. He is that guy who will stand up right until the play starts, and then either run over and play really wide as a LDE, run over and play as a strongside LB, blitz the A-gap as a MLB, or just look generally lost out in coverage.
by birds'n'raiders on Dec 8, 2009 11:02 AM EST up reply actions
according to eaglescap.com
his contract is 5 years $13,585,000 and if released next year its 2.4 in dead money
Aaron Kampman
Next season he’s a restricted free agent coming off an injury. He’s been a horrible 3-4 LB, but is a great 4-3 DE that can play the run first (which is what we require).
Long as he recovers with his knee… he’s very much like cole with his ability.
tons of talent in 2010 draft
last time I checked there are 8 out of 25 players on kiper’s big board are defensive lineman. My favorites are derrick morgan and brandon graham. however, at 6’1 graham might have trouble going up against some of the better RT’s but there is just something about him when ive watched him play that reminds me so much of Cole. his motor never stops and hes great against run, in his junior year he had 10 sacks and 20 TFL’s.
Peter King’s most recent MMQB page was pretty good. He talked about the complete lack of production from pass rushers taken in the first two rounds in recent years. It seems like D-Ends are having more trouble adjusting to the NFL.
Let the beasting begin.

i disagree
People are starting to expect rookies to come in and blow the world up, which is not fair. For example, Michael Strahan’s first year he had 1.5 sacks in the 9 games he played (but did not start). Then, his sophomore year he had 4.5 in all 16 games (all of which he started in). Then, 3rd year 7.5 sacks in 16. 4th year, he had 5.0 sacks in 16. 5th year, 14.0 sacks in 16. 6th year, 15.0 sacks in 16, and so on…
My point is, DEs need some time to adjust to the NFL. It is very seldom that a rookie DE can do anything, even if they start. DEs need to adjust to a much faster, stronger offensive line, a QB who will throw the ball away or keep a play alive, and much more intricate defensive schemes.
As for Abiamiri, I have some hope for him, but we do need a fresh supply of edge rushers. But we just won’t know what the coaches think until the offseason. If they like him, a LDE won’t be such a priority. If they don’t, get used to the names Derrick Morgan, Everson Griffin, Brandon Graham, and Carlos Dunlap.

Thats a good point about expectations being a little out there. Hell, what did Mario Williams have his first year? Like 3 sacks?

Abiamiri and Laws have both been disapointing (so far)
I dont like bad mouthing guys who still have a lot of career ahead of them, but these two just haven’t done anything to impress me yet. I had real high hopes for Abiamiri and Trevor when they were drafted because they were such smart players in college. I felt like if the Irish had a better year in 07-08, laws might even have been taken higher.
While I’ve been at training camp since these two were drafted, i’ve been excited to watch them. Unfortunately, they have a trend of both being on the medicine balls while the rest of the team practices.
Agreed
Abiamiri hasn’t been healthy but even when he has been healthy he hasn’t ever showed much over a course of a few games. Generally has a decent game here but not able to sustain it. Probably played his best stretch at the end of the 2007 season. Since then, he has generally been hurt or inconsistent or both. He probably will be around next year too but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Eagles spend another high round pick (2nd or 3rd round) on a DE too either.
Harder to judge Laws because he really hasn’t gotten a lot of snaps over the past 2 years. Patterson & Bunkley play an awful lot (think it was nearly 80-85% of snaps). Laws will be around as a depth guy next year but he hasn’t made much of an impact either.
