How can a 34-7 win be so painful to watch?
Nothing beats Eagles football at the Linc. The aroma of pre-game tailgaters in the parking lot... The deafening sound as players run out of the tunnel and onto the field... The camaraderie between total strangers as gridiron warriors in midnight green battle for 60 minutes...
But then, there are away games,,,
And you have to watch the game on TV...
on FOX.
Holy crap, today's game was painful to watch. Yes, we beat the pants off the Falcons and I loved how Vick alone put up more points than his former team, but I was appalled by how horrible the FOX broadcast was. I can go on all day, but here are the 3 main reasons why I had to restrain myself from throwing my plate of hot wings at my television...
1) Constant Self-Endorsement
Here's a little SAT prep for all you college-bound teenagers...
ESPN is to "The Great Satan of Sports Media" as Fox is to "_______"
A. Fine television
B. A silly animal in the woods
C. COMPLETE WHORES!!!
The answer? C. Fox consistantly promotes the shows or movies created by its own company. I swear that they brought up Avatar today for absolutely no reason at all. One of the most blatant uses occured last year when a commentator said something to the effect of: "The Eagles are on the fringe of... By the way, the Fringe is a really good show on Fox... but the Eagles..." It's pathetic. It almost seems that anyone who brings up a Fox show on air gets a commission.
2) Broadcaster Incompetence
All you would hear in the first quarter is what the Eagles should do offensively. The broadcasters were just bewildered that the Eagles weren't attacking the outside. Well, guess what... Their offensive made their biggest plays down the middle (i.e. big play receptions by Maclin, Weaver, and Brown). Also, the play in the beginning where McNabb threw a pass to Celek, but could have probably run for more yards and maybe a first down. They harped on how McNabb should have scrambled for more yards, when in reality, the ball hit Celek in the hands and should have been a touchdown, but that didn't stop the sharp duo, Kenny Albert and Daryl Johnston, from speaking on how inept the Eagles offense was. After all, they only scored 34 points.
3) Choppy Signal Quality
So how many times did the game freeze up? Five? Six? More? It was annoying. I know it's not the end of the world, but you would think that the studios that brought you the Simpsons, Family Guy, and other great hits would do a better job broadcasting a signal that didn't have to re-buffer every 20 minutes. It's like I was watching the game on the internet.
Anyways, that's my rant. I shouldn't complain too much, considering many of my BGN friends can't watch Eagles games in their hometowns. It could be worse. After all, this guy used to call NFL games...

Haha...
How can your “broadcaster incompetence” section not include Tony Siragusa?
How many times can he say “From down here it looks like that pass was incomplete.” We get it – you’re on the field, you have a microphone and can speak whenever you want as if you were actually in the booth. We don’t need the reminder of it every 3rd play, and we certainly don’t need your confirmation on what you saw from the sideline on plays that are obvious on TV.
Having a guy on the field in that role is not groundbreaking, it’s adds nothing, and I have no need for it whatsoever… It’s dumb.
Demps
should be fined. I don’t care if the plays were “close”. Maybe the ‘defenseless’ one I’ll concede…but Demps is an idiot. Coming in aggressive like he’s making a play. “I’d rather have them aggressive than not,” says Fat Man. No Andy, I’d rather Demps not get called for a total of 30 yds for penalties.
Celek drops a TD pass. Avant’s TD gets called back because Max Jean Gilles is terrible. Our O Line looked TERRRRRIBLE.
A 3 man rush gets pressure like 3 or 4 times, forcing McNabb into terrible throws or sacks? No excuse.
Too many drops. McNabb was 16/25 but there was at least 4 or 5 dropped passes.
I like how #5 scrambled, would have loved to seen more. Trent Cole is a beast.
our Oline looked damn good...
Celek has a sprained thumb so I think that has something to do with the drop
Only 9 incompletions?? thats not to bad expecially when we have Kolb completing 26 or 51 for 300+ yards..
Demps is just a pussy, he only hits when he can get a cheap shot(see hit on warner in NFC championship game last year)
And I agree with the very last line you got though.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
Our O-Line did very well today.
I hate, hate, hate ignorant football fans.
Two of our starting OL played different positions today than they normally do. MJG came off the bench and had some trouble. Any time the line gets shaken up like that, against a decent DL they’re going to look worse than they do when all 5 starters are present and in their normal positions.
Our OL held down the fort today.
Veritas Liberabit Te
And the worst part is
the uninformed fans are the most vocal ones.
I try to balance that out as best I can.
I have so much respect for Max
last year he grew beyond his potential. If we had to play him regular this year and i bet he’d be just fine. Again, we have some great coaches. I’d love to see Dunlap develop just like justice did, too.
And another thing... The dancing robot...
I’m picturing the FOX execs… “Giants! Eagles! What a telecast! NFC East rivals in December! But it’s not enough… We need to spice it up a little. What can we do? I got it!!! A dancing robot!”
same here

Sprung for DVR this year
because of my work schedule, and even though not always being able to watch the game as it’s happening sucks, you can knock that sucker out in an hour by fast-fowarding commercials and halftime.
It’s worth the price alone.

Whenever a game is on Fox
it makes me want to not even watch the damn game. I’d rather just listen to it on 610 WIP. Oh yeah, and I just got the news that Freddie Mitchell aka Fred Ex aka the People’s Champ has been arrested for failure to pay child support. Say it ain’t so!!

Isnt he supposed to be co-hosting some radio show this week on Philly sports talk radio?

yeah man, i think so. but it looks like he’s gonna be in the slam for a little while. all he can do is blame his hands- or the fact that he sent the child suport ‘fred ex’…

Who was the player
whose first name they got wrong? Was it ‘Bart’ Celek or ‘Jeremy’ Babin. Not the worst thing in the word, but I agree with the rest of the post and would like to add it to the list.
My biggest agreement: How come – in this modern day and age, when you can get a robot to dance, you can’t get your signal to be consistent – when EVERYBODY ELSE can?

LOL
At least they didn’t ask if Asante was Bob Marley. They look like twins separated at birth.
And I predict – take note Jibta – so you can prove me wrong later, we’ll see more of Buckley on short runs up the middle.
Haha...
They said Jonathan Babin lol. One of the Falcons’ DT is Jonathan Babineaux, must have got them mixed up.
They also said Matt Ryan is from Philadelphia, nope, he is from Exton which is not far but it sure as hell ain’t Philly.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
ehhh
he went to Penn Charter. That’s Philly’s oldest charter school, def. within city limits. I know, growing up within 215 limits means something more, but I don’t resent people who live immediately outside city limits or who attend school within the city saying they’re from Philly.
What the hell,
let’s ignore that fact and beat on em anyway. We’re on a roll here.
you all suck
yall beat me too it…i was gonna put up an entire post about Kenny " I talk out the side of my face" Alberts…but my 2 year old pulled me away

I’ve been running my mouth about how horrendous national broadcasting has been all year
But at least we didnt have dick stockton yesterday
Dont Disrespect the Level
To me, even worse then the national broadcasts are the incessant pregame shows.
I used to be able to watch FOX pregame and actually get some insight from Cris Collinsworth and Howie Long. Now, it’s one big retarded cartoon. I haven’t watched a minute of any non Eagle-affiliated pregame show all season, and I think I’m going to keep it that way.
Also, ESPN blows chunks all the same. Only they do it all day long.
I hated Cris Collinsworth but I find myself unusually surprised at how much he doesn’t bother me on Sunday night football.

"I'm kinda annoyed right now...I was with the Eagles for four years, I was cheating for four years...nobody covered it!!" -Freddie Mitchell on Tiger Woods:
how inept the Eagles offense was. After all, they only scored 34 points.
Technically the O only scored 27 points … I was getting annoyed at Johnston too. We get it attack the outside, that’s a weakness but guess what it’s 3-0, wait now it’s 10-0 okay what they scored again and it’s 13-0 oh shit again and again now it’s 27-0 I looked away what happened what? 34-0 and there’s 12 minutes left … well maybe going up the middle works too, good game plan by the Eagles.

I had to stream the game online, and the only stream I can find was in Spanish. It actually wasn’t that bad…Watching the Eagles, learnin’ some Spanish!
"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

fox broadcasts are great...
since i have found the mute button on my remote… for the most part i find the on air “talent” to be boring and stupid… not listening to them is best!!! now for some observations about the game… mcnabb is just terrible… i watched warner last night and when he was rushed the ball came out in a heartbeat and just burned the vikes defense… good qbs neutralize a defense… they react quickly….mcnabb’s feeble brain is so slow he can’t do that… all this chatter about his “hall of fame” numbers is pathetic…

Yeah
16 TD and 6 Int for a 94.7 QB rating….. what a bag of dicks….
Please refer up to the “stupid” and “uninformed” fan post.
The replays are what it is....
I completely agree with you guys that the broadcasters are annoying and most of the time incorrect with their assesments… but i’d rather hear them talk for 45 and a half hours straight then listen to troy aikman do an eagles game for a single half… ever two minutes he brings up the fact that he loves and probably wants to blow tony romo and the shittiest franchise in the league the dallas cowboys… but them aside annoying the shi tout of us… its something with their replay it only blacks out everytime they replay something… they make 100.2349083142341234231 dollars a year off the nfl coverage you can’t hire a techy that can figure this shi tout after 13 weeks?!? and make goose stfu… ps i also hate michael irvin and deion sanders on the nfl network…
I disagree I think Aikman is very good and shows little to no homerism.
Granted you could insert a sound clip of nails on a chalkboard for Troy Aikman and team it up with Joe Buck and I’d still prefer the nails on a chalkboard but even still I’m a fan of Aikman in the booth.

suprisingly, me too...
i can’t stand aikman the player, but aikman the commentator is pretty darn good. he wears a bit too much makeup, but i can look past that.
Anybody watch NFL Gameday on NFL network?
I love the trio of Rich Eisen, Deion and Steve Mariucchi with Eisen being my favorite sports host/analyst. They are funny as shit, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and no homerism from Deion(he actually seems to be more critical than a homer). They make watching highlights more fun. Eisen’s “ruh-roh!” is priceless!

do you have directv. I ask because the HD broke up on directv at my dad’s house but did not break up at my house on my dvr recording and I have dish. my dad called directv and got a credit for the signal issue
AGH
a little off topic but…
I turned on HBO last night and Joe Buck Live was on… I despise him but he had Brian Westbrook and Pedro Martinez on, so I decided to suck it up and see what my boys had to say. Low and behold, Mark Wahlberg walks out as a special guest (he’s been #1 on my list since the Marky Mark days). So I had to stay tuned for the second portion of the show.
Joe Buck sucks. It’s painful to watch a game when he is announcing, and if it wasn’t for Westy and Martinez I wouldn’t of had my first experience with Joe Buck Live – and he didn’t even ask any interesting questions… Everyone knows Westbrook has a concussion you dumb shit, and we already knew he was practicing this week.

What about the robot?!
Seriously, commercials are the ice-cream, the crap that comes out when broadcasting are the whip cream, but the cherry on top of the crap sunday is that damn robot! What the hell is up with that thing? It dances and gets really excited over nothing. I mean showboating on the field is one thing, at least the people make a play before that. When the team is down by 14 or more, I don’t care what kind of play it was, I have no taste for showboating. But that robot isn’t even playing. Yet it’s dancing, spinning the ball (and pointing at it, which is just weak), jumping and getting pumped for a game which it never plays, and now it plays guitar. Not only that, but it plays it behind it’s back and over it’s head. I don’t play guitar and can see how impossible of a feat that would be. I just don’t get it. I never have and never will. It’s somehow been around for at least 5 years now. It isn’t the worst part of the crap we have to endure to watch a football game, but it is the dumbest, most pointless and most easily correctable part of the broadcast. What’sthe easiest way to correct it you ask? GET RID OF THE STUPID F*CKING THING!!
It took my two years to come up with an avatar and sig
and this is the best I could come up with.
I'm Sorry but..
i hateeeeeeee CBS football broadcasts. i hate the pregame, halftime, and postgame shows. the announcers piss me off, and i hate the goddamn music. I don’t mind Fox’s presentation of the game, Joe Buck does get to me sometimes. In all honesty I’d rather watch a game on Fox than CBS strictly for the presentation of the game.
