All Things Eagle: Andy, are you on BGN?
That was an amazing game.
And I'm pretty sure Andy Reid heard one of my posts, where my wishlist consisted of
-more Michael Vick
-more Leonard Weaver
-more Reggie Brown
We got all of that in the same game. Brown, 64 receiving yards? Nice. Weaver, 110 all-purpose yards and a touchdown? Nice. Vick, two touchdowns, 48 yards passing, 17 yards rushing? Nice.
While we were, agreeably, against a pretty bad Falcons offense (no Turner, no Ryan), DALLAS ENDED UP LOSING TO THE GIANTS.
That's sick. Know why? The Giants suck. And I am willing to bet my Eagles jersey collection (Jackson, McNabb, Spikes, T. O. [:(]) that we beat them.
And the Cowboys have a tough road ahead. Saints, Chargers, Redskins (oh, they're getting good NOW.), and then finale vs. Philly.
We have a true chance at the NFC East, my friends. A true chance.
Moving on, I'd like to talk about free agency/trades next year. Honestly, I don't know anything about our cap, and I don't really care that much for numbers about salaries. But there are two wide receivers I think have a good chance of landing in Philly.
Anquan Boldin - Boldin's been unhappy in Arizona recently, probably because Larry Fitzgerald took his spot as no. 1 receiver. Cardinals don't care, do they? They've got another amazing receiver. He goes by the name Steve Breaston. I can imagine a trade (after all, the Eagles were after Boldin) involving Reggie Brown (yes, seriously). Boldin and Jeremy Maclin/DeSean Jackson, with Maclin/Jackson in the slot, Avant as a reliable fourth receiver. :)
Terrell Owens - Don't kill me for this. I mean it. He may come back to Philly. He was a model citizen this year in Buffalo. I think he might come back, apologize to McNabb, and understand that with good receivers lining up across from him (Jackson, Maclin, Avant), this team could easily make it to the Super Bowl. It could happen.
Onto a Vick trade. Everyone wants to get rid of him. There are actually a lot of possible destinations that he could be headed towards.
Buffalo, Cleveland, Houston, Oakland, Washington, Chicago, Detroit, Carolina, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, San Francisco.
I can't name everyone we could trade him for on these teams, but I honestly have a question. Who do you (all us Eagles fans) think we should trade him to, and for what?

seriously?
boldin?
I think we are pretty set at WR dude. Why give up a bunch of draft picks for Boldin, yea sure it would be nice. But it would not be a huge improvement and he would cost a 1st rounder.
so…just chill on the WR stuff, that’s so last off season.
r u kiddin me
we had to activate someone from the pratice squad to have 4 WR’s
R.I.P, Air McNair & JJ
r u kiddin me
we promoted someone because we lost DeSean and Kevin. That leaves us with Maclin, Avant, and Brown. With those three back, we have 4 great receivers. I seriously thought this talk would end after we drafted Maclin. I mean damn, we probably have the best one-two combo for the next 5 plus years in DeSean and Maclin and an amazing slot in Avant. we are SET are the receiver spot.

Dont Disrespect the Level
First off, as of right now our Eagles have the best chance to win the NFC east, they look great after the Atlanta win, they play amazing in December, and they are getting healthier every week, with a chance to get Akeem Jordan back, Hanson coming off his suspension, and DeSean will be fine, and of course Westy might see some touches at the very near end of the season.
Secondly Boldin would be a great pick up, but I think we need to acquire a young, big, north south runner who would compliment McCoy. We are pretty much set at WR. Also we need to pick up a legit punter.
Our more pressing needs are at RB and DL in my opinion.
Thirdly NO WAY IN HELL we pick up TO, what an awful person and teamate.
I would love the Eagles to get Pierre Thomas or Ronnie Brown through Free Agency
Also for Vick… maybe the Bears would be interested in trading for Adewale Ogunleye
i was thinkin chicago also
but for urlacher…i know we have jordan , witherspoon, and bradly comin back ….but with all of our LB woes this season would anyone REALLY argue that Urlacher wouldnt be a good pickup?

Sure. When he plays. The guy has chronic neck and back issues. This season was supposed to be a return to form because its the first time in years that he was actually healthy throughout the offseason. Fokou isn’t supposed to be a starter and he’s paid to not be a starter. Urlacher would command a lot more money and provide little more than depth.
Let the beasting begin.

I was thinking about Reggie Bush. The Saints are gonna cut him before next season because he will be owed 8 mill. I think he would excell in a west coast offense, great hands in the backfield. Him and Mccoy would be a great 1, 2 punch.

Why should we bring him back and allow him to possibly get a Superbowl ring. I hope his ass retires without a ring on his finger. Like Beyonce says, “If you like it then you should put a ring on it.” No likey=No ringy.

You're ripping on Fokou?
Guys, come on. Pay more attention. Watch film if you have to. Do you seriously not understand why the coaches are so high on Fokou? He’s the exact type of player the Eagles love at the LB spot.
Yes, he’s committed some stupid penalties. He’s a rookie! An aggressive, downhill-style rookie who’s trying to earn playing time for himself.
Watch the plays that he’s been involved with, both of defense and ST. He flies around the ball. He hits like a ton of bricks. Does he need work? Absolutely. Is he polished and ready to start? Absolutely not. But if you watch him closely you will see why the coaches love his potential so much. And that’s why God created the offseason.
Veritas Liberabit Te
Fokou does have a ton of talent..
He’s got size, he can move from sam to mike to Will…
He attacks and has a nose for the ball..
My only problem with him is that he commits way way way to many penalties.. In all but 2 games Ive watched hes commited at least 1 personal foul.
Oh and his name is AWESOME.

Dude is a 7th round pick
He’s not even supposed to be on the roster, much less logging as much time as he does.
If he were a special teamer like most late-round LBs, we’d be in love with dude. nh.
Let’s keep in mind the total picture here.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Are You Serious?
“If” he were a special teamer? Late round draft picks shouldn’t be making rosters?
What do you even say to a comment like that?
Marques fucking Colston was a seventh round pick!
There’s your total picture, buddy.
Veritas Liberabit Te
I think D3Keith is commenting on the fact the Fokou is only a rookie and he is playing as much as he is, not that there isn’t any talent coming from the 7th round. While people are bagging on Fokou right now, what seems to be lost in the argument is that a rookie 7th round draft pick is logging as much time as he is and being productive when he plays (minus the penalties).
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!
+1
For every Colston there are a million other no name players cut drafted in the second round.
So DSmith215 there is your total picture, BUDDY! Just because one 7th rounder has become a great NFL starter does not mean that Fokou is a failure. Look around he’s a rookie and I’d still rather see him play the Mays and Mays has had more experience at the position. He flies around 100 mph, sure he makes some dumb mistakes but when he understands more….he’ll be fine.
Friend,
You need to read a little more carefully. And think before you start typing.
1. My comment about Colston was in response to an assertion that seventh round players “aren’t supposed to make rosters.”
2. Look up at my post that starts “You’re Ripping on Fokou?” I was the one arguing for him. This is what happens when you storm in without following the preceding argument carefully.
No hard feelings, just try to be a little more careful in the future.

First off, T.O. is never coming back. Second, Boldin isn’t coming here either. He’s not a need and as others have said, the price would be too high. I like our youth at the skill positions and I want it stay that way.
We need another stud DE. Babin is great situationally but we need somebody to get all the double-teams off of Trent. I don’t care whether we do it in FA or in the draft.
I wouldn’t mind some more OL depth and we need to think about the future at CB. Sheldon might be my favorite Eagle but he ain’t gettin’ any younger.

it seems as each year goes on Andy and the FO are gettin more and more aggresive in the moves they make so i wouldnt totally rule us out in makina trade for Boldin. Just imagine how sick our line up would be……Donavan would be havin wet dreams night after night LOL.
ill tell u one thing i definitely agree wit u on and thats TO is never ever ever ever ever ever comin back 2 philly unless its in another teams colors. Andy Reid and Joe Banner are WAY 2 SMART to sabotage the growth and devolopment of our young guys, plus it already seems like Desean has a little bit of the diva thing goin on right now and puttin a person like TO around him would only be creating a Frankenstein who might actually be more selfish then TO.
The I can’t see the Eagles signing anyone discussed in this entire thread.
I do think they will trade Vick, Kolb is too good to be the 3rd stringer.
I think we draft O-line/D-line/DB early. Maybe another running back late, but I think they really like Buckley, so i can’t see them trying to bring in a 4th RB…with Weaver still at FB (I hope they resign him).

We are fine at WR with our top 3 guys, throw in reggie and curtis for depth and were set

Does anyone see a simularity between
Maclin and Boldin???
They both get those short slants, they both make them into big gains after the catch, there both big enough to break tackles, and they have pretty good hands…
Maclin is obviously no boldin yet but with expirience and an offseason or two to bulk up he could really be amazing.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
there both big enough to break tackles
I beg to differ on that one. Maclin falls after one handed taps.
with Maclin/Jackson in the slot, Avant as a reliable fourth receiver. :)
Ummm…….yea.

Maclin looks kinda frail to me
Like a taller DeSean Jackson.
Boldin looks like he endorses EAS and could whup you in a street fight.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
He is taller and 20 lbs heavier than Desean. He shouldn’t be as frail as Desean. I don’t know why he is having trouble breaking the simplest of tackles. Maclin needs to play tougher and more like his size. He really showed of his speed on that drag play last night. though. Can’t complain if he does plenty of that. Smoked the linebacker, safety and corner.

Maclins still a rookie….he’ll bulk up…lets just hope he don’t lose the wheels
The things that he used to get away with in college…ain’t happenin in the NFL. He’s prolly used to running through arm tackles.

thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
Pretty good? You must be fantasizing...
Tell me about one tackle that he broke for a decent gain this year. I recall at least 4 different occasions of him falling after one handed tackles, not even one arm tackles. 3 of those I remember pretty well. Yesterday he couldn’t beat the punter’s one handed trip tackle which would have been a sure TD. Last week, a defender tackled him with one hand while laying on the ground which could have been a potential 40+ yard TD, and the Giants game on a pass over the middle, the corner actually tried to intercept the ball and tapped Maclin, he just fell. That also could have been a huge gain but it was only 8-9 yards.
I love Maclin and have no doubt he will get better at breaking tackles but to say he is “pretty good” right now is quite far-fetched and suggests you are delusional.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
Yes.
The comparison made been made before by NFL PMs, and I see exactly where you’re coming from. I can see him that way too. He’s got great body control and phenomenal hands.
Maclin falls after one-handed taps? Did you watch his catch-and-run off the slant today?
Maclin, in my mind, will be the perfect complement to DJax. He is about as ideal as it gets for a Split End in our offense. Okay, maybe he could be a few inches taller, but apart from that he’s about perfect.
Spend some time going over birds-eye diagrams of Eagles passing plays and you’ll see why someone with his skillset is going to be so important. Watch what the X does to set up our Z and our TEs.
Another thing people forget is that Maclin is fast. It looks all skewed because he’s running around next to (probably) the fastest WR in the league, but if you watch the film from his long catch-and-run today you can see that he’s no slouch in the speed department.
Veritas Liberabit Te
I didn't argue Maclin's talents...
I know how good he is/can be. I also know about the comparisons before the draft. His playing style is not that much similar to Boldin. Anquan is one of the toughest receivers in the league. He breaks tackles like a manic and then RAC. Maclin is more of the speedster, finesse type. Reggie Wayne is a better comparison. Yes, Maclin falls after one handed taps. Ask any member on here that watched every game this season. I can remember at least on 4 different occasions(one being last week) where he got brought down by one hand, not even an arm.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
Hmmm.
I see your point about Reggie Wayne. I think they might be listed as the exact same size. That’s kind of funny.
I’ll have to look for those tackles on my recordings. Can you give me any direction so I don’t spend a million years searching for them?
Veritas Liberabit Te
I can’t remember which games they all happened but I’m sure last week he fell after a defender just tap him on his feet while laying on the ground. If he ran through it, it would have been a 40+ yard TD or at least a huge gain. I’m also pretty sure against the Giants on a pass over the middle, the corner actually went to intercept the ball and again just tapped Maclin and he fell. That also would have been a HUGE gain instead was like a 8-9 yarder. He needs to break that first tackle if he is going to put his great speed to good use a la Miles Austin. I don’t think I’ve seen any player 6 feet 200 lbs falling consistently after barely being touched like Maclin. Once he toughens up and masters that ability, boy he is going to be scary.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
yup 6'0" 198 lbs
Needless to say, I’d be thrilled if he turned into Reggie Wayne and D-Jax became the next Steve Smith (Panthers)
You lost me
Where you started talking about us trading for a reciever. Jackson, Maclin, and Avant form a great recieving corps. The fact that Kevin Curtis doesn’t get to play speaks volumes about that. There is no way that the Eagles make a play for another one to force a solid first round draft pick into a third wide reciever role. And TO will NOT be back here, just forget the destruction he caused here, he hasn’t been a model citizen in Buffalo, more quiet than usual but I have heard him say somethings about his team there.
"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
lol. really?
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
Haha, Really?
Honestly, the only reason I would want either receiver is because McNabb’s contract expires next year, and I have no clue if Kolb will take over.
So the next two years are McNabb’s last chances.
That’s sick. Know why? The Giants suck. And I am willing to bet my Eagles jersey collection (Jackson, McNabb, Spikes, T. O. [:(]) that we beat them.
I wouldn’t take that bet… because I wouldn’t want to win :-)
Boldin and Owens – I could do without them and the amount of money they would want. We don’t need them. We have great receivers and a number one or two guy playing as our 4th option right now. With Jackson, Maclin, Avant, Brown we can concentrate on LB, OL and other positions that are more imporant. Plus TO is in his last stretch as a relevant WR. I don’t want him as a 4th option and his attitude blows. Fuck him.
Vick – Take your trade list and minus Washington, Chicago, Detroit, Carolina, Houston and I think the remaining teams could possibly be in the running. Delhomme just got a huge paycheck, Campbell is still gonna be given a chance, Detroit just used their 1st pick to fill the future at QB and Chicago just got guarranteed $20 million and a long-term deal. Shaubs deal will cost too much and he was given a huge signing bonus and $7 mil in guarranteed money and something like $19.95 mil in his first three years before his option is up.
You’re left with Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, San Francisco. I would bet Oakland, Buffalo or Cleveland.

Dude, I don’t know who you are or what you’re smoking but your theories here are just stupid! We don’t need a WR when we have the current young wideouts that we currently have. If we need anything we need help on the defensive side of the ball, LB’s and DE’s I think.
No way in hell will TO ever show up here again.
Think before you post man!
I'm not going to say that the off-season pickups don't seem of a longshot...but...
I just want to encourage people to not call each other’s theories stupid. This is an open forum like this so people cna share ideas. You won’t get new people posting things if you have people like you calling them stupid for doing so. I think we should value people’s opinions here and state out own but not say someone is wrong or that their idea is stupid.
Also…who knows what could happen in the NFL? Stupid moves and decisions happen all the time.
An opinion based on fact is worth respecting
whether or not you agree with it.
HOWEVER, even though people are ENTITLED to their opinion, they are not entitled to people respecting it.
I get what you’re trying to say, but with so many opinions out there, I reserve the right to distinguish educated ones from dumb ones.
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
Just because you can “distinguish educated ones form dumb ones” doesn’t mean you should trash other people’s posts. I think it is important to not trash posts but to have educated discussion. I’d be fine with someone just pointing out statistics and reasoning why they think something different from the original poster, but calling someone’s ideas stupid is what deters people from posting at all.
what about when people are still talking about signing boldin…do we need to provide stats to explain why that’s stupid, or can we just go ahead and call them stupid? it seems like a waste of time to explain why.
You can respond by discussing what positions YOU think the Eagles need without dissing the other person and their thoughts.
i'm sorry
but some opinions do not deserve the respect of an explanation. if someone thinks WR is a position should be addressed this offseason, then they truly know next to nothing about football….

I want to have educated conversation too…but there’s a careful equation for it that goes:
educated person+educated person=educated conversation
When someone posts something like signing Anquan or bringing back Terrell Owens, they have immediately negated themselves from that equation; once that equation cannot be balanced all bets for respecting their opinion are off!
I’m never arguing that any attack should be personal, but to attack their lack of understanding on the topic they chose to post is perfectly acceptable.

Here's who we should target (in order)
1. OJ Atogwe- I saw a blown coverage by Sean Jones yesterday that could have led to a Roddy White touchdown if the ball was thrown a bit better (White caught the ball and immediately stepped out of bounds). Jones is solid, but I’ve lost faith in Demps and Harris is too inconsistent. Atogwe is arguably the second-best free safety in the game behind Ed Reed and has to be itching to get out of St. Louis and play for a contender
2. Aaron Kampman- The biggest problem on this defense is left end. We can’t get a consistent pass rush from there. I like Babin, but I see him more as a Mathias Kiwanuka-type backup pass rusher. Kampman and Cole would immediately become an elite pass-rushing duo. The fact that he had surgery and is 29 might scare the Eagles.
3. Kirk Morrison- Playing out of position as an ILB in Oakland, he would be an upgrade in coverage over Gocong at SAM.
4. Derrick Johnson- he should come cheap considering his talents. In limited playing time in KC, he has played well this year and has been productive since being a first round pick. He would provide nice depth and compete with Akeem Jordan for playing time.
5. Pierre Thomas- the Saints will likely franchise him, but he would be a great complement to Lesean McCoy.
Kampman is not a bad thought he switched to OLB this year with the Packers scheme change and has done alright but he was a hand in the dirt DE and I think could do well in the Eagles system.
Problem is he’s going to look for 8-9 mil a year DE’s are expensive. An even bigger problem is his season ending knee surgery he is having. This could drive his price down but will he be worth taking a chance on? maybe I will be interested to see what kind of deal he gets regardless of where he goes.

It's Not You.
Every analysis of the game I can find that mentions Macho has praised him for the job he did yesterday on Gonzo.
I love these “he’s too inconsistent” comments. What do they expect from a rookie who is moving from CB to Safety?
Veritas Liberabit Te
He did surprisingly well yesterday against TG but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm feeling it all of a sudden too
Maybe macho is a stud! Ever since he’s moved to nickelback he’s shown very good instincts in coverage. No rational person could claim his rookie season is anything but a success so far, he’s stepped up during the last 3 games with Hanson out and we’ve reeled off 3 straight wins. Yesterday was his best game yet from my perspective, I hope he continues to cover TE’s, I mean that was Tony G!
My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.
