Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

The Eagles playoff path is now clear

With last night's Vikings loss to Chicago, the Eagles now control their own destiny for a first round playoff bye. The path is simple.

Beat Dallas.

If the Eagles beat the Cowboys they will not only win the NFC East, but also become the #2 seed in the NFC and earn a first round bye. The Eagles will also win the NFC East with a tie, while also earning a bye if the Vikings lose or tie.

The only scenario that really matters though... is beat Dallas.

Ironically, if the Eagles were to lose this Sunday they could very well find themselves back in Dallas for a rematch the following week. With a win, the Eagles probably couldn't face the Cowboys again until the NFC title game.

I agree, Cole and McNabb need to build some chemistry very quickly and Celek is going to need to block more now then he has all year. Scary to ask for after seeing him get owned by Elvis this past week.

The key for this game is going to be our linebackers.

by Ant on Dec 29, 2009 12:07 PM EST up reply actions

Considering Elvis is up there with the league leaders in sacks, I thought Brent did an ok job on him. I mean, were you expecting Celek to go all Jonathan Ogden on him?

by philiafan14364 on Dec 29, 2009 12:11 PM EST up reply actions

No I wasn’t, just saying I hope he learned something from it and can help this week. Then again giving McNabb more time doesnt mean he will throw the ball accurately, which he didn’t do at all the last game; everything was short.

by Ant on Dec 29, 2009 12:13 PM EST up reply actions

I hope Andy learned something from it. Dont match Celek up 1 on 1 with Ware!!

by philiafan14364 on Dec 29, 2009 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

right..

Yeah, mcnabb was way inaccurate on the big plays to celek, and definitely inaccurate on the jackson touchdown, oh and not to mention the over the shoulder pass to maclin to seal the win basically, so inaccurate, give me a break, the guy missed 15 completions the entire game and i believe only 3-5 at halftime. I would love to hear your definition of inaccurate. Yeah, he was a little erratic in the second half, but the broncos were getting a lot of pressure. The pick was ill-advised, but other than that he seemed plenty accurate.

by PhilsForever on Dec 29, 2009 12:49 PM EST up reply actions

well said!

The thing that concerns me most is Jamal Jackson being out and the Eagles having to shuffle the offensive line, again.

by EANX33 on Dec 29, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

Elvis

Hardly was matched up at all against Celek 1-on-1. Celek was in to help the right-side of the line a lot though in the 2nd half and the Eagles also used formations with 4 WRs several times where Celek was out.

What is a Ratliff?

The Eagles are the first team in NFL history to have a running back and a wide receiver with 500 yards apiece in the same season before their 22nd birthdays.

a sack machine? perhaps you need to think before posting. He’s not even the leading sack leader on your team. You want to see a real sack machine look at Trent Cole.

Ratlif tied 41st in the league in sacks …. 41st .

Cole 5th in the league in sacks … 5th.

Actually he has the most sacks of any Tackle in the entire NFL.

I am sorry that your Eagles have not given you a Superbowl ever, or a Championship since there were 6 teams playin a 4 game schedule each year, wearin leather helmets and riding a locomotive to the opposing city. Mcnabb prolly could’nt even play on the team that last won because of segregation! So keep quotin your Phillies memories and I hope the boys lose to you this week so we can whoop your a** in the NFC championship and you can start payin attention to hot stove league stuff!

How is that for a rant?!?! ;)

by doug cee on Dec 30, 2009 8:01 AM EST up reply actions

First brag about past championships all you want it just makes you seem desperate.

Second making fun of me quoting a Philly Icon who passed away doesn’t make you tough it makes you sound like an asshole.

Finally, do some fucking homework clown, Ratliff doesn’t lead the NFC or the NFL in sacks of any Tackle, let me introduce you to Darnell Docket.

The classless response is expected from a Philly fan..

FIRST: Nice language, your mom must be proud…
SECOND: I did not brag about any Championships, just mocked your teams lack of any SB win
THIRD: I was not making fun of anyone, just pointing out that Philly fans can only hang their hat on baseball champs, not football.
FOURTH: You were right about Dockett, maybe if you call me some more names I’ll remember he has one more sack (until this weekend when Ratliff snaps McNabbs leg in two on his third sack)
FIFTH: You, my friend are the reason I visit the Eagles blogs…Philly fans are predictablty easy to lure into curse laden, moronic tirades…Thanks for playin to my expectations!
SIXTH: Have a happy New Year and remember, it’s only a game!

meh

It’s just a word dude but because it offends you I shouldn’t use it? Give me a break put on some big boy pants and join the real world.

I was not making fun of anyone

way to back pedal bud you were poking fun at me quoting an all time great because you thought I was boasting about a championship when I was really just paying homage.

You, my friend are the reason I visit the Eagles blogs
No you visit Eagles blogs because you are self conscious and need to feel better about yourself by being tough and talking down to people on the internet. Don’t think I didn’t notice you don’t even belong to BTB, you are a joke my friend and I guarantee I’m not the first to tell you this.

Dude..relax...smoke a jay or something!

Yeah it’s just a word…that uneducated people who are not intelligent enough to voice their thoughts in a calm, logical manner, use.

Wasn’t backpeddlin just pointing out that I was mocking YOU, not Kalas.

….& No I visit Eagles…and occasionally Giants blogs to hear the wonderful North East " were da best, & I’ll punch ya in da head if ya dont balieve me" banter from Rhodes scholars such as yourself!
Happy New Year…and remember…it’s just a game!

by doug cee on Dec 30, 2009 12:13 PM EST up reply actions

lol ok language that offends you means I’m not intelligent. Keep making statements like

A Ratliff is a sacking machine

This definitely proves your intelligence level.

Did I say “were da best, & I’ll punch ya in da head” no you made a statement I proved you wrong and you had to resort to played out comebacks that just make you seem pathetic.

It’s cool dude it’s okay to be wrong just let it go, you are forgiven.

Ummm...did you notice what that statement is in response to?

What is a Ratliff?

by Smitty 23k..so my verbage is correct.

The “were da best…” was not a direct quote, more a general attitide found on Philly & NY blogs.

I am beginning to get bored so this will be my last post.

I will look for you after Sunday, to talk smack, and make you watch your potty mouth.

You pressumably live in Texas, right? So who does Theo Ratliff play for, the Mavs or Spurs?

No, he came back last year on a 1 year deal. I think he plays for the Mavs now… or Spurs, I cant remember which.

Simplest explanation of the #2 seed

The Eagles own the #2 seed.
If the Eagles lose, the Vikings own the #2 seed.
If the Eagles and Vikings lose, the Cardinals own the #2 seed.
If the Eagles, Vikings, and Cardinals lose, the Cowboys own the #2 seed.

NOT SAYING I WANT TO>>>

Or that we will, but if Dallas beats us and we have to go back i wouldn’t feel like underdogs in that game. Its hard to beat a team three times in one year.

by ProfileEnt on Dec 29, 2009 3:15 PM EST reply actions

I dont think we are underdogs in this game

but i hope everyone says we are. Its the times when thing are supposed to work for Dallas that Romo implodes

Desean Jackson... "If He's even, He's leavin"

by 700 Level on Dec 29, 2009 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

It's an away game, a hot Cowboys team who already beat the Eagles once this year...

So yes thet are underdogs. Speaking of imlpoding, bout time for McNabb to have a “puke”, uh I mean “choke” game. I seem to remember last year the Eagle fans wanted to bench him in the middle of the season!

by doug cee on Dec 29, 2009 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

And I seem to remember.....

….that the idiot Cowboy ownership sent a 1st, 3rd and 6th round draft pick for a receiver who has 38 receptions and is barely the third leading receiver on the team. Your Point? Oh, you had none? Just reciting senseless facts? Sorry, I was slightly confused….

by TexasLax on Dec 29, 2009 10:24 PM EST up reply actions

Thats ok..I know Eagles fans are easily confused....

Like thinking that McNabb will ever bring you a Superbowl win…Don’t worry history shows most loser Dyansties only last through one QB…Tarkenton in Minn, Kelly in Buff, So you might win your first SB in the 20’s

by doug cee on Dec 30, 2009 8:10 AM EST up reply actions

Eagles fans are confused?

Romo hasn’t even won you a PLAYOFF GAME nevermind gotten you to a Super Bowl. You really dare to mention McNabb’s puking when Romo had one of the biggest chokes of all time in the playoffs by muffing that hold? Romo can’t even win in December, let alone January.

Get over yourself and your Super Bowls from the 90’s… You guys haven’t done anything since.

by iggles on Dec 30, 2009 11:13 PM EST up reply actions

Yes we are under dogs. At least Vegas thinks so

by alex c on Dec 29, 2009 10:25 PM EST up reply actions

I hear ya...

The cowboys beat the Giants twice in 07 and then got beat by NY in playoffs.
