Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Early games open thread

Photo

Unfortunately, both games with major implications for the Eagles take place later today. With a win today and Cowboys loss our Birds win the NFC East. Dallas travels to Washington on Sunday NIght.

The Eagles can also overtake the Vikings for the #2 seed in the NFC and clinch a bye week, but the Vikings don't play until Monday night when they travel to Chicago.

There are some good games at 1pm though. The Giants are fighting for their playoff lives at home against the Panthers, Baltimore at Pittsburgh should be a war, and Houston vs Miami has big playoff implications.

Feeling Sick to my stomach in Iraq

I don’t know about you, but i’ve lost sleep over this game. B Dawks was the man for so long…even when the team was playing terrible, he was still out there giving it his all. There is no winner in this situation. Not us, if we win (which I want of course), not him if he comes up big—I think it would kill him on the inside. He bleeds as much green as any true Eagles fan. I never thought I would see the day B-Dawks would be playing in Philly in any other color than green. His value added, on top of his actual numbers, was that intangible feeling in each fans heart. It seemed at times, when we were all screaming at the TV, he could hear our cries to step it up. He was full throttle all the time, and I felt that was for us, the only fans in the world that care for our team like we do. He was our go-to-guy that “got us.” He made me feel, at least, he knew our passion, and played like he was proving to us he understood Philly. Best Eagle I’ve ever watched. Period.

by Eaglesfan83 on Dec 27, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Sorry

But if the Eagles win, that’s great. Sorry Dawk, but you took more money to leave, so I feel no love lost if he loses. He is only one player, and since he’s no longer an Eagle, I will have no qualms about him losing this game. If he wanted to play for a winner, he should’ve stayed here.

No problems with the Broncos losing

But come on bdawk4ever…ive followed some of your posts…you often do, and I when I do get internet here, im on this site. Bro, you above most seemed to be affected by this. $ thing aside, it makes me sick to see him in orange (Broncos, not college ball). Whatever happened with him going, we can all speculate, but no one REALLY knows why except for a select few. Regardless, I can give a shit about the wild ponies, but I cant stand that he wont be wearing green today…and I wish he just sit on the bench. We can all say if he gets burnt by D Jack that it was a good move, but really? He WAS the heart and soul of this team, and I dont think there has been a player in Philly yet that understood the fans like he did

by Eaglesfan83 on Dec 27, 2009 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

It sucks

To see him in orange- but you need to understand that HE made a choice to. Both parties are to blame here- the Eagles could’ve offered a little more (though they never did get a chance to match the Broncos offer), and he could’ve taken a little less. Neither happened. It is what it is.

Look, he’s one player. I root for the Eagles. End of story. Maybe 15 other weeks I want him to do well, but that’s a secondary concern to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. And if it takes Jackson running past him, that’s okay with me. It’ll be sad, but I’ll still be celebrating it.

the bottom line with dawk

is that he wanted more money than we could give. cheap as the iggles may be, we ended up using that money to lock up celek and justice. our football team is better in the long term. sorry dawk, but you shoulda taken the hometown discount.

None at the half.

If the Giants lose, the NFC playoff teams are set, right, we’re just playing for seeds & home field?

by jjrome on Dec 27, 2009 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

Cool

I’d like to beat Dallas in Week 17 to knock them out, or play them in a meaningless Week 17 game if we’re locked in at 3 vs. 6 (I haven’t thought this out to see if it’s possible)

Worst case is we go down there in Week 17, play hard, lose, then have to come back and play them at home again the next week. Not that I think we would lose to Dallas three times, but I really don’t like the idea of having to play meaningful games against them in back to back weeks.

I suppose Reid and Co. would outcoach Phillips and Co. in said scenario. …

I guess I either just want to get rid of Dallas before the postseason and have the Giants get in instead, or not have to play them right off the bat.

Which would mean Eagles-Packers/Giants?

Thanks for tolerating my rambling.

by jjrome on Dec 27, 2009 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Ideally

the 2 seed and no game next week.

All we can control is our two games, so I really hope we go 12-4. But 12-4 and playing on the first weekend is wow.

I’m assuming the 2 seed is a long shot since the Vikings have Chicago and … ugh, the GIANTS left, so I guess I want to see the Packers come to the linc as the 6.

I wouldn’t mind playing the Cowboys if mailing it in Week 17 is on the table. I hate to do that, but if we can’t knock them out by winning Week 17, what’s the point?

I guess maybe we’d have to play to defend our No. 3 seed in case we see the Cardinals down the line. They might be 10-5 and playing … guess who … the Packers in Week 17.

Week 17 matchups

If the Giants had played well today, a lot would’ve been on the line next week. Maybe it still will, I’m typing before I work this all out in my head.

GB @ ARI
PHI @ DAL
NYG @ MIN

(NO plays CAR fwiw)

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome

by D3Keith on Dec 27, 2009 3:04 PM EST reply actions

So if things stay as they are

NO and MIN are 1-2

DAL (6) @ PHI (3)
GB (5) @ ARI (4)

If all four win this week and the NYGs lose, PHI (11-4) would have to play hard to try to catch MIN (12-3) and not get caught by ARI (10-5), at which point DAL and GB (10-5 each) would be playing to force something other than a rematch.

That’s bizarre, but I’m getting way ahead of myself, somebody in the group might well lose this week. Packers are up 38-3, and Ariz. plays the Rams and Dallas plays the Redskins (who I think will go hard after being embarassed last week, but might well mail it in again) … we’re the ones with the tough game this week, though we have the 1-game lead too.

Question

by LegendKnight22 on Dec 27, 2009 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Cowboys

If giants lose to minnesota.. whoever wins in week 17 hosts home field against each other in the first round… barring that eagles win today and cowboys win this week.

yea..i think the redskins are gonna pull it off

by jjrome on Dec 27, 2009 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

Also depends on ...

… what happens between Green Bay and Ariz. Week 17 too, doesn’t it?

I guess not. Your scenario is Eagles win out (12-4) … Vikings beat Giants, does that make them 13-3 because they beat the Bears today or 12-4 because they didn’t?

Anyway, it’s likely we’ll play the Cowboys if we win in Week 17. But a lot can still change.

Right now:
Eagles 10-4 vs. DEN, DAL
Packers 10-5 vs. ARI (just crushed SEA)
Ariz. 9-5 vs. STL, GB
Cowboys 9-5 vs. WAS, PHI

It’ll make a lot more sense once we know what today’s results are.
