Broncos game prediction thread
First of all, let me congratulate a certain Team Serbia for nailing last week's game at 27-13 Eagles. TS, do you have any good stock tips for me this week? How about next week's winning lottery numbers? Help a brother out, man.
I like to think my prediction of the thread of the game was fairly accurate, but my 24-19 prediction wasn't even in the top 3 closest. I did get Trent's 2 sacks, and also predicted a big game for DJax. Neither of those predictions were very bold, so really who cares? On to Sunday's tilt!
When we have the ball:
As our demolition of a fairly good defense last week showed, we have a good offense which is gelling at the right time. Our MVP might be Peters right now, as since he's gotten healthy and used to things, everything we've tried has worked. We run well, pass well, big plays, long drives, everything has been as good as I ever remember it being offensively for us. This is a good thing, because Denver has an excellent defense (#3 DVOA) which does many things well. The only thing they do below average is cover the TE, so we will likely see a few big plays to Celek this week. They are only average against #1 WRs, so I anticipate another good day from DJax, though maybe not quite what he's turned in the last couple of games. Then again, he's so good he might go for 200 yards against almost anyone if things break right. We'll see.
Denver is strong against the run, but this is mostly because they limit big plays against RBs, they are below average in power situations. Expect to see success in short yardage situations from Weaver. Their DL is good at rushing the passer, so we might have more trouble keeping #5 upright than against other teams, but as I said our OL is gelling, so hopefully this won't be a big issue.
When they have the ball:
Similar to last week, we're going against a top level defense and a poor, or at least below average, offense. The Broncos pass the ball well, but have fallen off since a hot start. They do not run well at all, especially in short yardage situations (something the Eagles D is very good at). This means more punts and fewer long drives, more passes and hopefully more INTs this week.
Quick, make a case that Kyle Orton is a better QB than McNabb! Amuse your friends with these numbers tomorrow over Christmas dinner:
Yards - Orton 3,131 McNabb 2,857
Completion % - Orton 62.5% McNabb 61.4%
INTs - Orton 7 McNabb 8
TD passes - Orton 17 McNabb 19
DVOA - Orton 17% McNabb 14%
I'm not trading McNabb for Orton any time soon, but those are some numbers I did not expect. Orton has been a good QB this year, and McNabb has had a few poor games, along with missing a lot of time due to either injury or showing off Vick, to put Orton over the top so far this year.
Special Teams:
Few people recognize how good the Eagles Special Teams have been this year. DJax gets a lot of credit for this, but the Birds do pretty much everything well. We rank #1 in Punt returns, but also near the top in kickoffs, due to the monster year Akers is having. Good in FGs, good in punts, only slightly below average in kickoff returns. This is a very good squad which puts our offense and defense in good positions again and again during games.
Denver is not so good. They don't stink any anything except one thing, but the only thing they are above average in is kickoffs. Note this well, the thing they stink at is punts. I expect to see a few long returns from our man DJax, unless they choose to punt the ball out of bounds a lot, which in reality is just as good for our net yardage.
Summary:
When all is said and done, we are facing a team remarkably similar to San Fran. Good to great at defense, poor on offense and special teams. In short, I expect the result to be pretty much the same as last week - a fairly one sided affair put away in the second half. You never know, but I think the Eagles roll in this one.
Eagles 33
Broncos 9

definetley confident about this game, eagles should be able to pull of a big game
eff you we winning anyway
A.I. IS BACKKKKKKK
Well
if our defense keeps up the heat I don’t see Kyle Orton having a great day. If McNabb can get the protection I can see DeSean lighting up Denver’s nursing home. Hopefully we can find some nice running lanes as well…
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
hells yeah............
ok djax is already a superstar and non- eagle fans should probably know who he is by now, but if they dont they sure as hell will after he runs circles around Champ Bailey. How cool is this gonna be 2 see Desean against one of the best corners over the last 10 years, granted Champ has lost a step or two but his experience makes up for it. However that will not be the case when he goes up against a guy who always looks like hes running in fast foward motion.

38-17...
Birds. Jackson and Celek get over 120 yards and 2 TD’s each. (2 rec Celek, 1 Rec & 1 PR Jackson) Weaver pounds one in from the goal line. Vick has over 100 yards combined passing and rushing and throws Celek’s 2nd TD reception.

actuallY McNAbb has 3008 yards throwing and 9 INT and Orton has 8 INT and 3,182 yards courtesy of NFL.com

He commented from mobile BGN. He can’t see the signature and he probably doesn’t know who J- man is. I would let that one slide.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)

Don’t fucks with j-man’s post, he’s got a point.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
wat up J - bizzzle..................
i respect ur passion and optimism but theres no way u guys win, it does help ur cause that the Broncos are fightin 4 their playoff lives but we are on a roll right now and with Westy comin back u guys defense better have their track shoes on , yeeeeah, Expect the fat man and Marty 2 run a lil more than usual, 12 carries for the Face-Cleaver…..16 for Shady ……and 7 for Westy. Combine that with another 200 all purpose yard day for Hollywood and its a wrap, bring on the Boys and the crown.

The words 'no way'
Should never, ever, ever be used to describe the chances of an NFL team in a football game.

27-24 EAGLES!!!!
i wihs we win buy that much, but i think it going to be a closer game that one might think.
Gotta take care of business
I know its been a emotional week for players and fans alike with the return of our beloved bdawk but we cant lose sight of the big picture. Hopefully the fat man has the team focused which i think he will. This game will not be as easy as sum people are calling it 2 be.
Welcome back and good luck 2 Westy and Maclin……and…..Bdawk, he will always be my favorite bird, i think we win by 10.
Eagles 27, Broncos 9.

I think Dawk’s return is a much bigger deal to the fans/media than it will be to the players. They’re all pros who know the NFL is a business, and have been involved with shuffling teammates many times. That said, the Broncos are a tough team; they’ve beaten a number of good teams this season, and I don’t expect this to be easy for the Eagles. I’m hoping that the Eagles can run the ball well and keep themselves out of 3d and long situations. Throw in a couple big plays from DeSean (apparently the Broncos’ punt coverage is suspect — he could make his noise there), and the Birds should be able to score.
On defense, the first priority, as always is to stop the run. From that point, you basically have to make Kyle Orton and Brandon Marshall try to beat you. It’ll be important to tackle well as Marshall is a beast once he has the ball in his hands, and that worries me. I think if the Eagles D can limit big plays, they should be OK, and the Eagles win it in the end.
I'm not going to make a game prediction, per say
But I will say that once/if the Eagles offense reaches 21 points, this game will likely be in the bag. I don’t see Orton leading his Broncos to anything more then 17 points against the blitz-happy, never-ending Eagles defensive pressure.
yeah and Im not even going to get into what Celeks gonna do...

Is there a rule against
…picking against the Eagles? I’m surprised that the debate is just whether the Eagles will win by 13 or 31; I’m used to a world of pessimism where a 27-13 win over SF feels like a loss.
Speaking of SF, there’s a comparison to be made there. Both Denver and SF have conservative, low-turnover offenses, but Denver’s is a significant notch more effective (12th and 17th running and passing, vs 26th and 24th for SF). Both Denver and SF have very good defenses, but Denver’s is much better poised to face the Eagles pass-heavy offense (22nd and 2nd vs run and pass respectively, vs 5th/28th for SF).
Take all that and feed it into a nattering nabob of negativity who thought the SF game felt like a loss, add in more desperation from Denver, and you have me picking the Broncos here.
Denver 24, Eagles 16. Weaver goes for 4.7 yards per carry but on only ~6 carries and the OMG I HATE ANDY REID pack is sharpening their fangs.
whoa
this is unheard of

another vital aspect of this game is
getting pressure from the front four. Cole is going against one of the best (young) tackles in the game, so everyone else has to help. Its time for Ambiamiri and Juqua to step up. Bunkley and Patterson are great run stoppers but they (Bunkley) will reach elite status when they can consistently pressure the QB

Eagles 31 - Broncos 20
I watched the first half of the Broncos-Raiders game and here’s what I saw:
Denver’s offense – Moreno hits the hole hard with no hesitation. Blink, and he’s 5 yards downfield. I think Moreno has his first 100+ yard game of the year. Denver will march down the field, but the Eagles will tighten up in the red zone. The Denver passing game is a one-trick pony, with the Orton-Marshall connection being all they have. The Eagles will shut down Marshall, but this will leave some space for the Broncos tight end. Expect him to have 70 yards and a TD. I also expect the Eagles to get two picks, with Brown or Zont pulling in one, and a safety pulling in the other. The Raiders were getting pressure with a 3-man rush, so I expect at least four Eagles sacks, with Trent piling 2 more onto his total, one from Joselio, and one from Babin.
Denver’s Defense – They have a lot of small, fast guys in the front seven. They do a good job up front, but don’t seem to get a lot of penetration, and also have a tendency to over-pursue. They also seem to struggle with big backs. I expect them to fairly well shut down Shady, but Mr. UnbeWeavable will break a couple long ones off counter action or short passes, one for a touchdown of 20+ yards. Weaver will also puond one in from goal to go. westy will get 5 or so touches, but won’t do much his first game back. BDawk will be up to his old tricks, and will strip LeSean loaf-of-bread McCoy in Eagles territory, which will result in a short field for Denver and 7 points. In the passing game, the Denver D is good, but it seems like no one can keep up with Sheesh, so expect him to pull in another long one for a score. Final score, Eagles 31 with Desean 1 TD, Celek 1 TD, Weaver 2 TDs and one Akers FG. Denver will score 2 TDs off of short fields from a fumble recovery and a pick, with a couple FGs added on top.
