For a good laugh, the 2008 NFL draft scores
Philadelphia Eagles - C (2.30) What the Eagles did right was trade down to get extra choices. What they did wrong was to waste some of them by over drafting players. Trevor Laws DT (47) is one of my favorite players. He has a non-stop motor and kept his head up and provided leadership during a tough season at ND. Desean Jackson KR (49) will be a specialty player. At most he will get 8-10 touches a game. He will never survive as a WR at his size and weight. Mike Gibson T (184) and King Dunlap T (230) were both need picks and good values. Jack Ikegwuonu CB (131) would have been a 1 st round player in 06 but fell because of an injury and less than exciting 2007 season. The other three picks were wasted.Just as a by the way, 2 of the other 3 "wasted" picks were Quintin Demps and Joe Mays. This evaluation was kind of a total miss the whole way, wasn't it?

Wow... just... wow.
Love how he omitted that we also scored an extra 1st round pick in that draft as well.
He is right about DeSean...
8-10 touches is all he needs! 6 catches = 140 yards and touch! HAHAAAAAA…he could never be so right and so wrong in one sentence…or was that 2?
I've been sayin "Wait til next year" for 31 years....
R.I.P. JJ
just goes to show
the draft is a crapshoot more than anything – one guy could see a draft class as potentially very successful while another sees it as a failure.
Fortunately, this class is more the former than the latter
It also goes to show
how really REALLY good the front office is getting at the draft. And better every year.
This guy isn't legit... I just read his 2009 AFC winners and losers...
Chargers: SD got some solid values with the best player in the draft Aaron Curry (ILB Wake Forest) with the 3rd pick, my favorite center Max Unger (OC Oregon) in the second and one of my sleepers, Nick Reed (ILB Oregon) in the 7th. Grade A-

Uh, Bill… The Chargers didn’t draft any of those guys.
Hahaha

I'm going to flat out say it
Outside of Brian Dawkins, Desean Jackson is the best 2nd round pick in Eagles history. He’s the Black Tommy McDonald lol.
I would give DeSean another few years before I would say that. You can certainly make an argument for Cunningham and Eric Allen.

FAIL
"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

There is a reason why there is no such thing as a “draft expert”… It’s all pure guessing.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
did anyone see the eagle fan on sportsnation today LOL

ha ha, nice
they were right about him only getting 8-10 touches a game, i just dont think they realized each would be for 20+ yards

this is why
I never pay any attention to the draft. Mel Kiper is a blowhard and a phony.
8-10 touches
isn’t 8-10 touches a good amount for a receiver?

A consistent moron is a lot of fun to pick on – thanks for contributing JIBTA
How would you grade this draft?
I would say the revised grade right now is B+. Jackson obviously is a Pro-Bowl caliber player but the rest?
2nd round (Trevor Laws, Desean Jackson) – He was the Eagles’ highest draft pick and is quickly approaching ‘bust’ status. He was inactive last week and barely seen any time this year on the field. He probably only sticks with the team next year because of his high draft status. Jackson has become the playmaker the Eagles were hoping and gambling on. Fortunate he dropped so much because of concerns about his size and off-field activities at Cal.
3rd round (Bryan Smith) – Wasted pick.
4th round (Mike McGlynn, Quintin Demps, Jack Ikegwuonu) – Demps still hasn’t been able to grab the starter job despite facing some mediocre competition at best. McGlynn likely won’t be on the roster next year and Eagles gambled/missed on Ikegwuonu recovering from his knee injury.
6h round (Mike Gibson, Joe Mays) – Gibson make the team. Coaching staff has really soured after Mays played poorly in training camp and has been inconsistent at best. Basically just a special teams player right now.
7th round (King Dunlap) – Another ‘depth pick’ who likely won’t be on the team next year.
It is very likely next year the Eagles will only have 3 players on their roster next year (Laws, Jackson, Demps) from this draft just 3 years removed with only 1 sure-fire starter. Dunlap & McGlynn likely won’t be back and can’t imagine this team keep Mays unless he shows he is really contributing as a special teams player.
Luckily Jackson was developed so much so quickly otherwise this draft would really have been a dud.
It's a B- at best
We got one pro bowler out of it and the rest are either S/T or lucky to be on the team. Typically you want at least two – three contributors. Looks like we got just one.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I agree with this guys C
Other than D-Jack that draft was full of dreck.

Meanwhile
The guy the Eagles’ likely would have taken in the 1st round (Jeff Otah) has developed into a steady RT.
I would be curious to see what scouts think of Otah this year who is supposedly has been as good as advertised in run-blocking but has struggled at times with rushers on the edge.
Trading their 2008 #1 pick.
Eagles traded their 1st round pick for the Panthers’ 2nd round pick (47) and 4th round (109) and their 1st round pick in ‘09. They drafted Laws with the 2nd round pick and McGlynn with the 4th round pick. Both guys likely won’t be starters here and you have wonder just how much/if anything they will ever contribute. Panthers got the much better end of the deal here.
Eagles did take the 1st round pick in ’09 from Carolina though and use it as the lynchpin of acquiring Peters this offseason from Buffalo.
Guess you have to like how it eventually turned out because the Eagles took their #1 pick in 2008 and eventually turned in into their starting LT (Peters).
I'd say b+
Whenever you draft a star, especially when you don’t have a first round pick and you use that first round pick to trade for a pro bowl player that’s pretty damn good. Demps played as a rookie and has made plays in the return game. As for laws, he is playing behind some really good players.

Laws is now playing behind a midseason Redskins castoff Dixon.

DJax is the man…. I can’t understand how sooo many people thought he wasn’t going to be that good of a player. I didn’t think he was going to anything but be a good PR and that is about all I thought.
I am glad that I was wrong and I am going to be on the lookout for anyother player that Jerry Rice says is the man. People, we should have listened to Jerry Rice. He is the greatest ever at his position.
T. Laws is a bust so far. I don’t really know what is up with him. Ohhh, I know, he played at Notre Dame. That is why Laws hasn’t done nothing.
