Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Eagles - Tallest midgets in a room full of short people?

Everybody knows about the injuries.  Issues at LB and secondary.  4 of the 5 lineman on the injured report including Peters who is supposedly playing on an ankle that is pretty bad.  Weaver has a bum ankle too.  Now Jackson is out and Celek is going to try to play through a busted up thumb.

What I wonder though is just how good this Eagles' team is in the 1st place though.  Yeah all of their losses except the Saints game were ultimately close.  Their best win is over a 6-5 Giants team that looks like they might finish the year at 8-8 or worse now.  Other 6 victories are against teams that are a combined 18-48.  Eagles have played 3 good teams so far (Saints, Boys, Charger) and lost every one of them.

Over their last 5, they play only 1 team with a losing record (SF) who isn't a pushover and likely will be in the WC hunt because of their crappy schedule down the stretch.

Lots of people seem fixated on the potential showdown with the Boys on Jan. 3 in Dallas but the next 3 weeks will tell you what you need to know about this team. Eagles need to win at least 2 of 3 including at least 1 victory vs. Giants/Falcons to ensure they make the playoffs.

My personal bet is that the Eagles finish the season in somewhat shaky fashion but end up going 3-2 to finish at 10-6 as a WC team.  We'll see though but it should be fun to watch.

Eagles fans who aren't interested in watching a playoff team . . .

Don’t get them. Why would you be a fan of a team that has a chance of making the playoffs and finishing the season with double digit wins and not watch them?

question...

I dont have time at the moment to look into the scenarios, but will 10-6 guarantee the playoffs?

Because I’d be willing to make the guarantee that this team goes at least 3-2 to finish the year, if not 4-1.

You can’t guarantee anything because the games still have to be played. With that said I believe it will take at least 11 wins to win the division The Cowboys should be able to find 2 wins in their remaining games.

The Wildcard is tricky but beating Atlanta this weekend will make it a whole lot easier, and if we can manage 10 wins and 2 of them against ATL and San Fran than we can pretty much guarantee a wildcard birth. If we can pull off the third win against the Giants than it is definitely guaranteed that would make them 10-6 if they ran the table (minus losing to us) and we would hold the h2h.

ATL has us then the Saints and assuming they lose those two they will finish the season 9-7

San Fran has a pretty easy schedule finishing out the season against the Lions and Rams. But they are 5-6 so even if they run the table they will finish 10-6, beating them puts them at 9-7.

Green Bay is 7-4 and they don’t have an easy schedule but I’m going to give them the wildcard assuming they don’t collapse and then we could see the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants in the playoffs.

So I’m going to say 10-6 will guarantee playoffs assuming 2 (possibly 3) wins come against the other wildcard contenders we will hold the head to head and the best they could each finish would be 10-6 with us holding the tie breaker.

The Eagles yet again control their destiny let’s hope I’m not sitting on my couch routing for the Raiders week 17 again this year.

I wish I had more proof that Dallas was gonna blow it besides their December trends

I don’t like that the only thing we have on them is “they do it every year”. The thought of Dallas winning the division makes me naseous.

so answer me this...

we are currently one behind dallas… but what happens if the birds and dallas have the same number of wins over the next four weeks and then we beat them by 10 or so in the last game of the season. Wouldnt that give us the division? Cuz we only have two conference losses at this point. They also have 2 but have to play NO and us yet.

Plain and simple… we MUST win sunday and against SF… if we can do that, i think that gives a good shot at having a chance to beat dallas for the division title Jan 3rd… regardless of what happens with the Giants or Denver

I know the game ended 48-22, we were at home, the defense played horrendously, but...

I still want another shot at the Saints. With McNabb under center.

That game has an entirely different complexion if Ellis Hobbs and Kevin Kolb don’t hand the Saints 14 points early in the third. Not to mention, I watched film of the first half, and I’m not saying McNabb would have done any better, but there were a number of plays that were there, and instead, Kolb checked down.

Of course, we need to worry about making the playoffs first. So, for now, this whole rematch is just…food for thought.

We Need to Lean on the running game with McCoy/weaver and we'll be in the Playoffs

My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.
