Fokou to Cover Vernon Davis
According to a recent statement by Andy Reid, rookie Moise Fokou will be splitting snaps with Chris Gocong at strongside linebacker during Sunday's game against the 49ers. Since Gocong's strengths lie in rushing the passer, it will likely fall to Fokou to cover one of the most dangerous tight ends in the league.

I actually like the move.
Fokou has been playing pretty well for a rookie. He just gets a shitload of penalties. Once he cuts down on those, he will be a better LB then Gocong ever hoped to be.
If Life Gives You Lemons, Just Say FUCK IT and Bail.
Foke who?
:)
Go get ‘em Moises, it’s a great chance to show everyone what you’ve got!
OK that reminds me of a joke...
Tiger Woods is in the Standing Room Only section (cause Elin got his seats in the divorce) and there is a tackle. He asks the guy next to him:
“Who made that great tackle?”
and the guy says, “Fokou.”
and without missing a beat, Tiger replies,
“Foke who? Foke anything that squats to piss. That’s how come I got stuck in the Standing Room section!”
thank you, thank you very much.
I’ll be playing here all week.
:)

oh great.. Here come a bunch of 15yrd personal foul penalties.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
Yeah, well there's that.
He’s gonna have a tough time on coverage.
actually Fokou isnt a bad player. Hes a 7th round pick who is
already proving is worth… He’s decent against the run and from the little Ive seen he’s a good enough athlete to drop into coverage… But he just needs to cut down on the penalties…
The kids got just about everything you need as a LB… Size, strenght, speed, all he needs is to put it all together.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
Call me crazy
I think he’s going to do alright. Last time we played them I remeber Dawk and 27 making contact and VD ran for another 20 some odd yards. So even if Fokou takes him down by the facemask at least he will take him down.
I just like Fokou’s energy, he flies around the field, loves to hit and more importantly has cut down on the penalties as of late.
"Seriously… F off." JasonB to a Denver fan after Dawk left.

A smart 15 and a first down is better than a dumb 6 points.
I’ve called Harris out for saving ‘shoulda been’ touchdowns with personal fouls this season. Peters saved McNabb from what would have been a brutal sack with a hold. Sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils.
Still, ‘The Foker’ is young and it will be good to see him play a clean game.
this is the game
wether or not we can contain vernon, plain and simple

Our D as a whole needs to play a whole lot better
I’ll be honest Gore scares the hell out of me. If we can’t wrap him up he’ll burn us. We need to bottle him up early and often. On top of that we need to come after Smith and light him up like a cheap cigar
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
my game plan...
has been what it has been all year…put ’em away early. Dump 14 points on them in the first 7 mins., and ride the momentum at home. Plain and simple.
Go BIRDS!
Im ok with the move. Foku gets penalties yes...
But the kid is playing Hard and Fast! He is giving it his all! Now all he has to do is play more SMART! This is either gonna work out well or not! I thought they were gonna use Macho on VD since he did a great job against Tony Gonzo! Macho would’ve been my choice but something tells me that the Niners will be tryna pass in 5 wide sets more times than not! So Macho might be playing more this week as a Cover guy becuz Sean Jones is not so good in that department. If not…then I believe it will actually be a combo of Foku and Macho accounting for VD. This is also why I believe Demps is taking over Kickoff returns for now. They want Macho healthy and he might be taking on a more significant role as a Cover-Safety! Haha, not many Safeties can cover these days so im Happy Macho’s on ourside! This Kid was a Steal no doubt!!!!

An early Christmas present?
If Vernon loses this matchup it’s because of mental screw-ups on his part. Fokou may play hard and be solid, but there are very few linebackers with the skills to cover Vernon Davis. This could be the key to the 49ers potentially hanging with the Eagles.
It COULD be a trap ga me
Our D hasn’t played well, we are dinged up with some injuries, and we just came off a HUGE game on sunday night against a division rival.. But who knows, these past two Eagles teams have been so unpredictable
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
You guys are trippin
There’s no such thing as a trap game. Its a term coined to generate attention. NFL teams are professional organizations, and the coaching staff is paid millions. You don’t think they know that they have to keep their players focused? The players are professional and get paid more millions to play, they know what they have to do. The Raiders game wasn’t a trap game, it was just the Raiders playing a very strong game following being humiliated. We didn’t find a rhythm and they did and took advantage.
The 49’ers aren’t a very good team. This game won’t even be close. 34-17 Eagles.
the 49ers aren't very good?
Tell that to Arizona.
by David Fucillo on Dec 18, 2009 8:33 PM EST up reply actions
Is that suppose to be a feat?
They also lost to Seattle. They’re a 6-7 team, with their only good wins coming from Arizona. Their other wins are Jacksonville, Chicago, St. Louis and Seattle. So no they’re not a very good team.
It doesn't matter if they are good are not
The point is that Any Given Sunday anything can happen. We are 100x better than the Raiders and 100/1 we would beat them, but we didnt. That was a game we should have won but we didn’t. Thats a trap game my friend. Its not that the 49ers are not good, just if the Eagles overlook that game it can hurt them. Your right this game shouldn’t be close, but if the win against the Giants was the climax of the season and they just expect to cruise downhill they are wrong. We have to play every game.
So a trap game is whenever you play someone with a worse record then you?
I’m not saying that we can’t lose. I’m saying this notion of a “trap game” is completely absurd. There’s no such thing. If we play to our level, we win. If we play down to our opponents, then its a different story.
Nevertheless, if you think we’re the only ones that realize we’re on a high after beating the Giants, your crazy. Coaching personnel are paid millions for a reason. I believe we’re on a role and we’re past our stage of taking teams lightly.

Trap Game vs. Overconfident Team

If we play to our level, we win. If we play down to our opponents, then its a different story.
I suppose it just comes down to terminology. The results are the same.

Last year is last year
This team is much better all around then it was last year. Better O-line, better receivers, better running game. Our defense has taken a bit of a step back but they should rebound this week.
Gocong’s strenght is rushing the passer?
Please, do explain…

your so naive, hes a solid player that doesn’t make any great plays but doesn’t make bad plays. That is why you never hear his name called out during the game.
He is the main reason tight ends have owned us...
Why do you think talk is coming up about Fokou splitting time with Gocong to guard them? If you can’t guard tight ends and you can’t put pressure on the QB, then you are not doing your job as the SLB. Him and the FS are the only weak links of our defense.

I do agree that he hasn’t done the best in coverage but he has gone against the very best in the game right now(Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Jason Witten, Antonio Gates, Chris Cooley/ Fred Davis, Tony Gonzalez, Kevin Boss, Greg Olson). And correct me if I’m wrong but with the blitz happy defense we have the tight ends are typically open, which is why we struggle now and for the past few years against tight ends. And he does an ok job getting to the quarterback. He just doesn’t get many opportunities.
ok
number one .. dont ever mention best in game and kevin boss in same sentence again .. number 2 gocong is horrible .. not hearing ur name is a bad thing .. thats why macho sucks. . if u dont hear their name they arent making plays .. he isnt good at rushing the passer .. he sucks at it .. he was only good in college cuz it wasnt div one .. seriously hes that bad .. and he needs to go asap .. just a quick question .. where are all the dudes arguing wit me before the season how mikkell was the man and he wasnt a product of dawkins .. mikkell has actually been outplayed by sean jones .. hes no where near as good as u all thought .. just goes to show what playing next to B Dawk does for u .. like how roy williams was the man next to woodson .. mikkell isnt bad .. hes no where near top 10 like u were saying

Sounds more
Like they may be planning for the future and grooming Fokou to step in later this season and very likely next year. He didn’t do too bad against SD so I guess we’ll see what he’s got. As far as Gocong, just seriously…..he has no strengths.
ewell
2 more tds for davis

Not to toot my own horn but...
Remember how everyone got on my back over the summer when I made a post about offering a 1st for Davis. People thought I was crazy…

That was before the draft and Celek’s emergence buddy.
My point was back then most people thought Davis wasn’t good enough for a 1st and they jumped on me when I believed he was elite. He proved it this year.
I have admitted I was wrong about Celek. He turned out to be a stud so good thing there was no trade.

But same analogy can be applied to you
Davis didn’t deserve a 1st rounder before this season.
Not everyone can evaluate players like me :)

This Seems like a very Shaky Idea............
I like Fokou but just makes too many mistakes as far as penalties are concernd……….i guess we can give him a chance but keep him on a short leash…..
Faux-Coupe
VD has a bit of size, but Foukou is very aggressive at the line of scrimage, and will fight the whole five yards of the free-contact zone off the ball. Will VD break free? Sure, but after the timing of the play has been totally dirupted. This gives the Eagles pass rush time to get to the QB. Oh yeah, once VD goes past 5 yards, MF’s job is done, and a safety, corener, or someone else with enough speed to cover VD in the open field takes over. This approach worked well a couple weeks ago in Atlanta, where their super-awesome tight end was shut down by rough treatment at the line by Macho Harris until late in the game garbage time when they were playing prevent.
