D-Jax=Pro Bowl?
Don't get me wrong. I love DeSean as much as the next guy. No, actually. I love DeSean more than the next guy.
But I don't think he's going to make it to the Pro Bowl, at least at WR. There are too many good wideouts this year, such as Miles Austin.
The only thing he's doing really well in is YPC.
But as a Punt Returner, I think it's very possible. He leads people with at least 2 returns in average, and is tied for the league lead in touchdowns with Patrick Crayton.
So when you say Jackson for Pro Bowl, do you mean as a WR, PR, Both, or do you just not care?
Try not to be too biased, I seriously want to know what we're thinking.

Alright Man
Trying to not be biased here.
Austin is having a better season reception wise. He hasn’t even been a starter til week 5, yet he is 1 yard away from 1000 yards this year. He has the same amount of receiving TD’s as Jackson has all purpose.
I like Austin. I hope the ’Boys (unlikely) will trade him. I think that he might continue to do good, and right now, I think D-Jax would only make the Pro Bowl as a punt returner.

not being biased... How many 50yrd +

How many ways can austin hurt an opponent???
Lets see Djax has a shit ton of 50+ yard plays… He hurts opponents in 3 ways, Recieving, Returning and even rushing…
Desean is in an entirely different league than Austin.

what
who cares dude .. that dont make u probowl worthy .. lets say jackson had 10 catches for 1000 yards and ten tds .. and austin has 95 catches for 1000 yards and 10 tds .. austin is bette .. cuz he caught 65 more balls .. meaning jackson was only relievent on 10 drives .. while austins 95 catches means he kept a lot of drives alive and resulted in more scoring than just his 10 tds .. just long tds dont mean ur better.. these are not actual numbers but u get the point

yes it does
big plays arnt anything .. if the yardage total is the same .. i would take the guy with more catches everytime .. he prolongs drives .. which means more scoring .. lets say djax scores on first drive … 90 yard td .. and again on the 2nd for 95 but doenst catch another ball.. but marshall has 20 catches for 185 yards n two tds .. who had the better game? well marshall becuz his 20 catches were spread out thru the game ..and he resulted in more scoring besides a td .. if he converts 2 third downs and then moreno runs it in .. marshall is still important to that drive .. BIG PLAYS ARNT EVERYTHING .. so yes i hate miles austin but hes been better the djax

thats true but..
The cowboys offense is definitely not the same as the Eagles. Typically I like stats, a lot… but in this case there is a distinct difference between the two. The Eagles offense spreads the ball out more than any other team, or at least reasonably close. While the Cowboys like to run and have their designated few goto receivers. With the Eagles, you do not know who is going to have a killing, could be Jackson, Maclin, Avant, Celek, Mccoy/Westbrook, or good ol’e Leonard Weaver. And all of this is only for Receiving stats. When the Cowboys offense is going at full blast, it is usually a strong ground attack with one receiver having a good day. It is either Jason Witten, Miles Austin, or Roy Williams. When you spread the ball out as much as the Eagles do, if you go by stats, then the Birds will not produce a pro bowl receiver, even though I believe they definitely are pro bowl caliber.

World nice but
Dallas doesn’t have anoyone receiver wise past those two guys….(roy and Austin). Tell me any team who take Crayton over their third receiver? He can’t seperate at all and is not that fast. So we are reduced to those three catching the ball most of the time.

Hmmm out of those WRs, I think only Fitz and Colston are definite locks this year. Calvin Johnson’s been injured most of the year, Steve Smith (CAR) and Greg Jennings have vastly underperformed, and Boldin just doesn’t have the numbers this year. So that leaves Austin, White, Smith (NYG), Driver, and D-Jax for the remaining 2 slots.
I think DeSean has a great chance at making the Pro Bowl this year, especially since he’s been receiving a lot of national coverage lately. He will at least make it in as a PR. Driver has been solid but he’s really slowed down in the past two games. Austin has been great but his numbers are inflated from the KC game and he didn’t start the first four games.
I think two out of White, Smith, and D-Jax should take the last two slots. Smith has cooled down after that ridiculous start but has been consistently good. And DeSean’s numbers are better than White’s despite D-Jax sitting out one game with a concussion. Larry Fitz, Colston, Steve Smith, and Jackson should be the 4 WRs in the Pro Bowl.

Thats sensable. But i also feel Jackson is more dangerous than almost all of them except Fitz. Steve Smith is also a big play reciever like Jackson. There isnt a WR in the NFC East that is better than Jackson. Even if the stats dont show it.

I think it should be 50% coaches, 50% players, and fans can go cry in a corner.

nah, I gave the fans 10%

Fans are important to fill up stadiums, support their team, buy stuff, etc.
Deciding who goes to the Pro Bowl doesn’t fall under that. Especially since HOF voters use Pro Bowl as a judge to see how good a player really was.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
exactly but giving 10% of the votes to fans then thats a
fair number… Not fucking 33.333(repeating" % to the fans…
10% is a small enough chunk where it shouldnt even make a difference but on occasion when its super close will just be a “tie-breaker” between 2 players.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
yep he had 2 big games of 421 yards.....
add Jacksons 178 against the Giants to his 141 he only got against the same KC crap defense as you claim( If he is that much better than Austin he should’ve gotten 300 huh?). Yet Austin in hall his starts has had one terrible game of 20 yards. The rest over 47 yards in which he started. Jackson , I can name 3 bad games for sure…..one game he had 1 yard. One game he had 9 yards. Another game he had 20 yards. So if you can blast Austin on this 2 game deal then you can also do the same with Jackson.
"When people talk about Super Bowl dynasties they mention the 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys and the current New England Patriots, but nobody has dominated the Super Bowl like Anheuser-Busch. Simon Noble
selective stats huh … why do games in which Austin didn’t start not count? It’s really shouldn’t matter if the player starts or not it should matter what they do on the field. He’s been targeted 93 times with 58 catches where DeSean has been targeted 90 times and has 50 catches.
Austin averages 76.8 yards a game 17.2 yards a catch and 448 YAC
Jackson averages 78.9 yards a game 18.9 yards a catch and 326 YAC
They are pretty close this year … Fact of the matter is this is the first year Austin’s broken 300 yards in a season in 3 years DeSean Jackson proved as a rookie he can play and has done it again so right now Jackson is a better player. 1859 yards in 2 years versus Austins 1353 in 3 years let’s see if he can keep this up next year and then we’ll talk.

"The 0-2 pitch, swing and a miss! STRUCK HIM OUT! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! And let the city celebrate! " - Harry Kalas 1936-2009
Well games you start obviously matter
Now I hate Austins face as much as all of us Eagles fans, but I think its obvious that starts count. No one thought much of Austin at all before he got his start. Therefore, he doesn’t play very many snaps and when he does Romo looks at him as the 3rd/4th option he is. When you start that means your either the first or second option, therefore have more looks, more plays devised for you, and more opportunities.
If not for our injuries at WR at the beginning of last season, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jackson didn’t play much. In a sense, we got lucky we discovered his talent as soon as we did.
meh … starting doesn’t mean you have more plays it simply means you are out for the first play of the game.
First game of the season Mile Austin catches a 42 yard TD from Romo … let’s not count that in his stats though because he didn’t start. It’s a stupid argument what’s the difference between starting and being targeted 5 times to not starting and being targeted 10 times, it’s taking what the defense gives you.

He’s the most dangerous player in football, but usually an offensive skill player needs a certain level of stats to get to the Pro Bowl. Jackson is well behind some of the other big name guys as it relates to the numbers, so it might be a reach.

Reciever
Chris Johnson and Desean Jackson are the two biggest play makers in the NFL hands down. Every time they touch the ball they are a threat to take it all the way and they often do. Any reciever can be great if he gets thrown to all the time. Desean has found a way to thrive in an offense that spreads the ball around tremendously. Fitzgerald? He has 34 more yards on 35 more receptions. Miles Austin averages less per game and less pet catch and a quarter of his stats come from that one game against Kansas City.

Desean Jackson is actually #2 in NFC probowl voting of Wide Receivers behind Larry Fitzgerald
so it seems like he’ll make it
ProBowl Voting
They consider fans, coaches, and players.
Fans: check. Jackson’s electric, showboats just enough to be noticed, people like him (and a lot of these kids voting are not looking at season stats)
Coaches: check. Most coaches we’ve played against have learned they either have to gameplan for him, or watch him kill them. Half the time, he’s gonna get you anyway, even with a double team.
Players: check. Nobody can cover this kid!
If I compare that to Miles Austin, DJax wins. Austin doesn’t have the popularity Jackson has b/c he came out of nowhere halfway through the year, so the fans don’t know him as well. He’s a good player, but he can be shut down. Coaches don’t have to game plan for him, not like they do against DJax. And I don’t think players have to respect Austin as much as Jackson. Again, he can be covered, he might break a pansy arm tackle, and make you look stupid, but he’s not going to score a 60yd TD on you while you’re still scratching your ass at the LOS
"What did it feel like? That collision, I didn't feel nothing, because he was pretty much defenseless. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."- Sheldon Brown on his pounding of Reggie Bush in the '06 Playoffs
Pro Bowl is so overrated anyways
Its a popularity contest and of course the big market teams like cowboys, skins(even though their own fans gave up on em), packers, and now the Vikings because of Farve, will get all the votes. Was it last year when 8 cowboys players were voted in the pro bowl? If we want our guys in there we just need to keep voting.
I don't know
I agree that it is a popularity contest, but the national media has been giving jackson a lot of love recently. Hasn’t he won 4 different awards this season for his performances? He’s been a big play machine, a fact that announcers and ESPN have been harping on. I think he has a good shot. That being said, we do need to get in there and vote to get our guy in there!
by RunyanRemembered on Dec 18, 2009 10:56 AM EST up reply actions
My thing is about Jackson is… he might not have as many touchdowns as Austin or as many receptions or yards — its because they double cover him. When he is open and makes a drive, its for over 50 yards and a TD!! He doesn’t get the ball all that much because other teams try and cover him more than Austin and half the other receivers for that matter. Plus we are running the ball effectively now and we got a bomb ass TE and other top knotch receivers. So yes, he might not have the best stats compared to Austin but he is a better player. I bet you ask players on other teams if they had a choice… they would pick Jackson. He’s the reason we have other people open and we are winning games.. more games than the Giants and Cowboys.
Boom.
In life, as in a football game, the principle to follow is: Hit the line hard.
-Theodore Roosevelt
As much as I hate it
Miles Austin is ahead of Jackson no question. Less starts, more yards, more TD’s. What more do you need. Also here is another interesting stat
When in the redzone:
Desean Jackson: 1 rec 4 yards 0 td
Miles Austin: 7 rec 45 yards 3 td
People will say that its because Desean Jackson is “more” covered. I doubt that. But even so, Randy Moss and Andre Johnson are also “more” covered and they still produce. Thats what makes you a good player.
Secondly, this is obviously for the Probowl WR position. Returning is a different story, but WR no way Jackson makes it over Austin.
it’s more of a system thing DeSean doesn’t get much in the matter of red zone targets I don’t have time to look up stats but I’m willing to bet Austin is targeted a lot more we tend to go to the TE and RB out of the backfield a lot in the red zone

"The 0-2 pitch, swing and a miss! STRUCK HIM OUT! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! And let the city celebrate! " - Harry Kalas 1936-2009
Yea but there has to be a reason for it
If he could a threat in the redzone, then we would use him but I think its obvious that he’s size limits him in the redzone. In the redzone, his speed becomes a relative non-factor because there’s no room to beat someone. There’s a short field to cover. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing the guy, I’m excited every time he touches the ball but I’d still give Austin the green light over Jackson for the Probowl this year.
well
its not austins fault he gets targeted .. he produces .. he makes it over djax no question .. and u have no idea how much i hate austin .. but its a fact
