Demps will return kickoffs for 49ers game
Via Bloghead on the Eagles' website.
Safety Quintin Demps will resume his role as the primary kickoff returner this week against the San Francisco 49ers, according to special teams' coordinator Ted Daisher.
"I thought (Demps) did a very nice job on the one return that he had" against the Giants, Daisher said. The Giants "had scored and taken the lead 31-3-. We got a nice return, got it out to the 40 and then of course the big play to DeSean right afterwards gave us the lead back."
In the third quarter of the 45-38 win over the Giants, Demps replaced Macho Harris as kickoff returner and, in his only return of the game, reeled off a 30-yard return to the Eagles' 40-yard-line. Harris was unable to resume his role as kickoff returner because he was in the locker room getting x-rayed, according to Daisher.
Harris "is going to play (this week)," Daisher said. "He's healthy and all that, but right now we're thinking about putting Quintin Demps back there."
Demps was the Eagles' kickoff returner in 2008 and was fourth in the NFL in kickoff return yards. On the season, he had an average of 25.3 yards per return, and also had a 100-yard touchdown return.
"I'm fired up," Demps said about taking over the return role, "really fired up."

I think it was helping Harris
Obviously its just subjective, but Harris has looked more physical on defense and coverage teams since he started returning. Seems like getting hit a few times to start got him hyped.
Granted maybe the same theory would work on Demps as well.
yeah he's not half bad returning kicks,
just don’t put him in coverage. If I remember he took one 100 yards in that balitmore debacle last year.

I hate even remembering it
that was 10x worse than the raiders game this year…and even slightly worse than the ridiculous Cincy tie last year
Actually that was the worst Eagles game possibly of the Andy/Donovan era

Actually Demps had some crazy amount of return yards last year
and if I remember correctly he was pretty good at it… I say we need to have Buckley back there returning b/c he can win some collisions and has decent speed to break away… But demps is sufficient.

I read "Bunkley" really quick
I was thinking that was a pretty unique approach to the return game

Im tired of demps on defense...
he was 4th in the league in KR yardage last year I believe.

Hopefully...
this is an indication that Demps will be playing less on D. Hopefully this also means some more time for Macho… wow Peyton to reggie for 65yd td! was watching while i typed
My "t" and "y" buttons are messed up so don't bitch at me about misspelling, I'm just saying.

Demps was a good returner last year. I also think it’s a little early to give up on him as a defender; he had some good moments last year, and he’s a second year player who was drafted in the 4th round. He may never amount to anything, but I think it’s too early to write him off.
agreed
I’m fine with having him in situationally to keep learning…
