Trade Kolb?

Any thoughts about this?  We have #5 looking like a kid again, #7 proving that he can in fact run a real offense, and Kolb, all under contract next year.  Kolb with 2 impressive outings this year when McNabb was out.  Time to trade Kolb?  Would a team trade anything to give him a shot?  What kind of compensation would we get?

By comparison, the Falcons traded Matt Schaub for 2 2nd round picks a few years ago, which is about as much as I can see us getting for Kolb.  Make any sense?

If we are planning on keeping mcnabb

Then we should get something for him so he doesn’t just leave without us getting anything…

This draft class seems pretty deep at quarterback so it might not be a bad idea to trade him and then draft a quarterback in the second or third round.

I wouldn't do it.

Mike Vick has done some things here… but I still doubt he’ll be here next year. Plus, I still wouldn’t trust him to actually run the offense.

You need a good backup QB and that’s why Kolb is here.

Honestly

I don’t think Vick wants to be here next year

Maybe that depends...

…on if he does get more involved like he has been and if he gets a ring. You really never know.

If Vick gets a ring he'll have less reason to come back

Vick is committed to this team. He wants to get them a ring. Having accomplished that, he will set his mind back to personal glory.

Let’s face it: Michael Vick is not a backup quarterback. He’s not Pat White. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and can start for a lot of teams. And I think that’s what he intends to me.

No matter how “involved” we get Vick, we are not going to start him over McNabb and he knows that. He wants to be an every-down quarterback and he deserves that shot. He’ll get that with another team

Vick wants to start. If he had his choice, he won’t be here next year. He doesn’t want to be a wildcat or back up QB

Only if

You do in fact own a time machine so that McNabb CAN be a kid again. Because he just isn’t. He’s playing good football and all that but he he’s been in this league for a decade which is quite a long time. Vick will have trade value after this year to start somewhere, which is what I think the plan was all along, he wasn’t meant to stay here.

are the colts grooming Sorgie ? dont worry about grooming a back-up ride mcnabb till the wheels fall off. Yeah mcnabb’s been in the league for a decade , so has Peyton,Brady,Palmer etc…stop worrying about grooming a successor (sp) Dmac is 33 and can prolly play another 5 years plus…so worry about it when he’s 37 or 38 and he John Elways it and leaves with 2 wins…Im putting in a request to get trade mcnabb talks of this site until we see trade Brady and trade Peyton posts on thier forums “since they are at max trade value” so please everyone STFU enjoy having one of the top Qb’s of the Decade, and actually one of the top Qb’s in history of football (H.O.F. talk) please….he’s a Qb not a Rb so playing for a decade doesnt matter…i.e. farve , warner

Hell freakin' yes....

Mcnabb is still in his prime and hasn’t lost a step in his passing ability. Andy got extended, I believe Mcnabb gets extended if he continues to play like this till the end of next year. No way should Banner and company let Kolb be a free agent after next year. Trade Kolb for a high first rounder and draft Case Keenum wth one of our firsts/or second. IMO best QB in the draft(you heard it here first). Screw Tebow, Mccoy and Bradford. They are all overrated. There are desperate teams looking for a starting QB right now.

Keenum led the nation in total offense two years in a row. 159 QB rating, 5449+ passing yards, 43 TDs to just 9 INTS. Ironically he is also from the University of Houston as well except unlike Kolb’s team, they are ranked in the top 25 and going to a bowl game. Groom Keenum for 3-4 years until Mcnabb retires and watch Keenum do his thing.

in fairness, he hasn’t gained one, either.

tough call,

I love Kolb, and McNabb. I would still trade McNabb, only because he would still demand a first rounder plus. Kolb may only demande a 2nd and a 5th or so.

Plus Kolb is younger.

It’d be nuts to trade a top 10 QB who takes you into the playoffs and wins us games…

I think we try to keep Kolb but keep our minds open to possible trades, especially after the draft if teams are still hurting for a good starter.

Vick will be gone either through trade or free agency…

by justyn725 on Dec 14, 2009 12:01 PM EST reply actions

There's no need to trade Kolb... or McNabb.

What..ever since the Chargers game. I was callin for us to do this last year. It keeps the D from subing in and out and tires them out! Im realllly happy that Dmac and MM stepped up and decided to go this route! It will help us against good defenses like the Broncos and Vikings!! Good move guy…better late then never hahaha

I wouldn't be against this if they draft a QB this year.

There is a pretty good crop coming out, so we may be able to get a young guy to build up for when McNabb truly is done. Hell, go back to University of Houston and get Case Keenum. That said, I don’t think it will happen. If anyone is getting traded, it’s Vick (as I’m assuming that was the plan all along).

by NOLACuse on Dec 14, 2009 1:09 PM EST reply actions

The only way Vick can be traded is if the Eagles pickup his 5 mil a year option, then trade him. Possible but unlikely. I believe he will be a FA and signed by another team.

by Route36 on Dec 14, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t see how that’s unlikely. He’s a fine backup QB option, and $5M a year (after a heavily discounted first year) ain’t that bad. $5M a year for a STARTER, though, is one hell of a deal. $5M for a starter who will sell jerseys and put asses in seats is worth high draft picks. Eagles pick up the option and trade him.

That's a very good point...

I totally forgot whoever trades for Vick would only have to pay him 5 mil the first year. In that case, hell yeah, pick up the option and trade him for at least a third.

Picking up the option then trading him is not a stretch at all.

We know someone is gonna want him, so it’s worth our while to pick him up and trade him (probably immediately or close to it).

how good is this????

i’ve never been a fan of mcnabb (very nice game last night aside) but how many teams have the luxury of three qbs that have value… here’s how i see it working out:

1) no matter what mcnabb is gone…. getting a 1st rounder in 2010 and a second in 2011. (the pics go for help on defense which is scary right now.)

2) vick is resigned and kolb takes over with vick playing a much bigger role in the offense.

whatever???… go iggles.

In my honest opinion I see McNabb being somewhere else before

Kolb is… Kolbs to young and too talented and we’ve seen a taste of what he can do..

I truely thing that if any of them gets traded it will be McNabb and Vick… Plus McNabb will bring a bigger price tag.

Yeah it’s always tempting to try and play Madden with real NFL teams but the fact is a franchise QB is a franchise QB. It doesn’t matter if another team is dangling two 1st round picks in your face and you’re pretty sure you have a pretty good QB waiting in the wings. You don’t trade franchise QBs.

The Packers are an exception. I like Kevin Kolb, and I think he has a ton of potential, but we’re not sure he’s as good as Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn’t even take Aaron Rodgers over McNabb right now. Barring the unforeseen, McNabb has years ahead of him. We should trade Vick, and draft a QB this year. Kolb will be our #2 next year. We can trade Kolb after next season, and the guy we draft will be our “future of the franchise” assuming McNabb doesn’t pull a Favre and play into his late 60’s.

We have #5 looking like a kid again

And his age still stand at 33 and his contract his him keeping him here in Philly for rest of this season and next. And our FO doesn’t resign 35 year old players.

And I do NOT want a QB in this upcoming draft class…

Tebow – Spread QB, won’t be able to adapt to pro level
McCoy – Spread QB, weak arm strength
Bradford – How many surgeries on that throwing arm?
Clausen – Last QB to go in first round from Notre Dame? Brady Quinn. Before that? I don’t know, but it predates this decade so it’s not like that place had many successful QB.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

i think

tebow may be good at the next level… But dont start argueing with me over it b/c honestly I dont care what you have to say about it.

McCoy actually has a decent arm and he’s a good runner, he will most definantly be good at the next level in the right situation.

Bradford had 1 injury, I see him as a good QB in the NFL

Clausen has great upside, but I truely dont see him as a starter till year 2-3 in the NFL.

You can find something negative for every single solitary college QB... ever.

Peyton Manning – Never won a bowl game – can’t win the big one
Philip Rivers – Funky 3-quarter arm delivery – will have to change his mechanics to play in the NFL
Drew Brees – Weak arm
Tom Brady – Lost his starting job in college
Donovan McNabb – Syracuse mainly ran the option
Ben Roethlisberger – Played in a minor conference – no competition in college

Trade Talk Nonsense

All this trade talk is a bunch of nonsense. The Eagles have a trio of good QBs they should keep as long as possible. As an ole Californian who also followed the 49ers during the Montana Young days, the 49ers had a similar situation. Young played a few years behind Montana before getting his start……after Montana was on his way down and traded, even though he had a couple good years left in him at KC. When Young took over, the 49ers and Jerry Rice didn’t miss a beat. Young took them to the Superbowl too.
Elway played many many years before he could win a Superbowl. Manning…the Colts Manning….has just as many years as Donovan. Curt Warner is older than Donovan and still very productive. QBs who aren’t seriously injured during their career can play 12-15 years or longer and still be competitive. The Eagles finally have a team with all the right weapons in place…..and depth at several key positions. Something they haven’t had in the past. A potential pro bowl tightend with a good backup….and with Ingram and Bradley coming back next year, who knows what lies ahead. Trade talk about any of the QBs is nonsense at this time. Keep them all. The team will be set for the future with all the young players the Eagles have now. A young team with a veteran QB….a veteran backup QB and a QB who can do whatever the Eagles ask him to do…………..sounds like a winning formula to me.

Kolb’s talent’s being wasted on the sidelines. Seriously. Trade him to the Skins or someone…
We can draft one this offseason or the next. (Sam Bradford, anybody?)

…means we can rest assured that we’re going to beat them twice a year, every year. Let Kolb’s pick-6’s benefit US for a change. His cotton candy floaters are perfect for our voracious CB’s to snack on and run back.

Trading Kolb would be a mistake he knows the system has shown he can play. If you trade Kolb you are putting all your eggs in one basket. Then we have to draft another QB and bring him up probably much faster then we want to.
