Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

Thank God LeSean McCoy didn't value his education (fixed, sorry)

I love the Eagles, but I hate Dave Spadaro. I know I can't be the only one. Let's see what his latest nonsensical bit of propaganda was about. I'm guessing he's gonna make a case for why Sav Rocca deserves Pro Bowl consideration.

Star-divide

Had LeSean stayed in college, he would be attending classes, resting his body and preparing for a bowl game. He wouldn't have to grow up as fast as he has, wouldn't have the responsibility of making football his life. A rookie season that began in April is still going strong with four games remaining in the regular season before the real fun, hopefully, begins.

Ooh, so close.

Yup, McCoy’s life would’ve been totally carefree at Pitt, where no one cares about football and he’d have no pressure on him to play well since he wouldn’t have been trying to get noticed by scouts or anything.

You wonder how the youth of this football team playing key roles -- McCoy at running back, Jeremy Maclin at wide receiver, and Macho Harris on defense and on special teams -- are handling the long, long season.

I actually worry about the older, more injury prone guys who’ve already taken a billion hits.

"You just go day by day," said Harris. "Nobody can really prepare you for how long the season is and how demanding it is from day to day. You hear about it after the draft, but it's something you have to experience. Mentally and physically, it is a totally new experience."

I HAD NO IDEA THEY PAY ME SO MUCH MONEY TO WORK HARD AT A DIFFICULT JOB.

The good news for the Eagles is that their rookies have held up to the flame very well, indeed. McCoy has been used wisely as the Eagles called on him to replace the production lost when Brian Westbrook went out of the lineup with his concussions. Maclin has responded beautifully stepping in when Kevin Curtis went down with a knee injury at wide receiver. Harris, a starter at the beginning of the season at free safety, doesn't start now but still plays significant reps in the defense and on special teams. Even Moise Fokou, a seventh-round draft pick, has contributed at linebacker and on special teams and still has his energy.

If it wasn’t for McCoy, who else would’ve gotten two yards on six carries last week? And Harris played, by god he’s played so well at safety that he had to get benched! And where would we be without Moise Fokou and his two personal foul penalties ever week?

With Sunday night's huge game at the Giants looming, the Eagles are again ready to call on the rookies to deliver. McCoy is primed to start at running back and is hoping to shrug off his 6-carry, 2-yard game in Atlanta. Maclin, nursing a case of plantar fasciitis, is expected to start at wide receiver after his 4-catch, 83-yard game against the Falcons. Harris should return kickoffs and play a reserve role in the secondary. Fokou is one of the core players for the Eagles on special teams.

HOLY SHIT WE ARE FUCKED!

It really is a fascinating development for the Eagles, who are accustomed to veterans leading the way down the stretch of the regular season. The organization made an important decision in the off-season to get younger and, hopefully, better. That remains to be seen, of course. The roster has been deep enough to withstand, to this point, major injuries across the board. Depth has been tested at every single position.

The organization made the important decision to not have veteran players good enough to beat out a bunch of rookies. Savvy. I wish the depth had been tested at head writer of Philadelphiaeagles.com.

And the Eagles are 8-4 with a chance to get a stranglehold on their playoffs chances by beating the Giants on Sunday night.

IF THE ROOKIES EXECUTE THE TEAM WILL HAVE A STRANGLEHOLD ON THEIR CHANCES OF WINNING THE GAME!

"I'm holding up fine," said Maclin. "You're beat up and you have to spend a lot of time in treatment, but the difference here is that football is your profession. You have to think, eat and sleep the game. You aren't going to school. Football is everything. From that standpoint, it's easier because there are no distractions. You have to take care of your business every day. There are no letdowns, and being in the NFL is exciting every day. It's a challenge every day.

IT’S LIKE TIGER WOODS TOLD ME, THERE ARE NO DISTRACTIONS WHATSOEVER WHEN YOU’RE A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE.

Reinforcements could be coming soon, should the Eagles need to tap further into their depth. Westbrook and Curtis have taken part in practice on a limited basis this week. Cornerback Joselio Hanson and linebacker Akeem Jordan are in line to play against the Giants. If the rookies hit "the wall," then maybe the Eagles will have the resources to give the kids a chance to recover.

OH THANK CHRIST WE WON’T HAVE TO COUNT ON THESE CRAPPY ROOKIES ANYMORE. THOSE GUYS SUCK OUT LOUD.

This is the part of the season when we'll find out if the move to get younger and to add fresher legs pays off for the Eagles. Playing in the final month with a playoff spot within reach is nothing new for Andy Reid's Eagles. Reid has an impressive 29-13 record in the final month of the season during his 10-plus seasons here. If it's December, the Eagles must be making a playoff run.

And if it’s January, they must be blowing it.

Now they are, for the first time in Reid's tenure, doing it with rookies at key positions. They are leaning on 21-year-old kids to carry the football in critical NFC East games and to catch touchdown passes. Remarkable.

It’s a well known fact that most people don’t know what a football even is until they’re 26.

"We have a lot of trust in the players here, all of them," said Reid. "If we didn't, they wouldn't be here."

It’s true. Andy kept Reno Mahe around for four years just because he trusted him to get his drive thru order right.

McCoy, Maclin and Harris have traded in the school books for the playbooks. And as the Eagles get ready for the playoff environment of Giants Stadium, they are going to have to prove again they are ready to play just a little bit faster and with just a wee bit more precision to help the Eagles win a game that could go a long ways toward determining their playoff fortunes.

Unless the veteran guys return from injury. In that case, fuck these guys. They can go back to school for all I care.

… they’re burning.

The Eagles are the first team in NFL history to have a running back and a wide receiver with 500 yards apiece in the same season before their 22nd birthdays.

While I may not fully agree with what u r saying.....

I won’t speak for everyone but, Dave Spardaro is a freakn robot! He gets paid to be positive by any means necessary. Though he is also a hypocrite as the ONLY time he bad mouthed the Birds was when he verbally attacked Dmac after the Cinci tie last season! Totally disregarding that it was and is a TEAM effort. But when one of us fans says something negative, he calls us “unbelievable”! The only person worse than Spardaro, in my eyes, is yes man Howard Eskin!. As he’s even MORE of a hypocrite! He loves the Eagles as in, Reid and the FO and everything they do, but hates Dmac! I could understand if Dmac was the ONLY problem, but Dmac has done more with less than ANY other QB in the league! Winning playoff games and reaching NFC Champ games with Pinkston, Thrash and FredEx! I discredit both Spardaro and Eskin as they both are in Reids pocket!!

Which is why I appreciate media personalities like Hugh Doug and Ike Reese!

IMO these cats at least really do speak the truth!!

Best line ever…

But seriously they’re rookies don’t be a dick rookies aren’t expected to come in the league and play perfect football, they all show a lot of promise and are doing the best they can in the roles they’ve been put in.

I think Dave Spadaro is a stooge but thats what he's paid to do and he does a good job at it.

I believe he’s a fan like us, but sometimes I wonder because he’s sooo optimistic, I dont know about you but I’ve never met a fellow Eagles fan who wasn’t at least a tad pessimistic so I have my doubts. But I don’t think we should hate on a guy just doing his job but I agree with RealTalk, former players tell it like is. Howard Eskin is a whole different story. That guy is a hypocrite and pretty much makes up stories, its honestly ridiculous. Heres how ridiculous it is: I don’t live in Philly or have, I’m fun New Jersey but now live in Jacksonville Florida so I watch the Red Lasso videos or whatever they’re called and I cring every time he says something ridiculous.

cringe*

By the way if we win the next 3 games we guaranteed a playoff spot, if the Cowboys lose the next two and we do the aforementioned, we clinch the division. Fly Eagles Fly.

I don't get it...

I don’t know if your being sarcastic, or just critizising Spadaro (who by the way I don’t like) and his writing, or just plain bashing on the rooks.
If its the rookies, WTF is wrong with you? Ok, I’m not really into McCoy as a starting running back, I believe he has nothing exceptional about him (like CJ’s speed or Petersons elusivenes and size or Westy’s open feild ability) but I think he’s doing a very fair job, not to mention Maclin, even tough he gets tackled by the freaking breeze he has been outstanding as a rookie starting WR, and Macho has done a good enough job too, he practically banished Tony G from last weeks game!

by McMuffin on Dec 12, 2009 12:59 AM EST reply actions

screw it, were winning anyway

Seriously, what rookie has not had some struggles when they start their first year? It is okay, they are on a very fast learning curve and will make up and be better from the mistakes that they make.
McCoy danced around the hole a LOT when he first started getting the ball, yet he has been getting consistently better. Has he not?
Maclin is an absolute STUD. His blocking, his catching, his speed are all amazing. His routes, which have been thought of as his weak point, are actually pretty good!
Macho is alright, but there is no way a rookie can fill in for Dawkins. Give him time.
Fokou would be growing at a player on special teams if it was not absolutely necessary for him to take some snaps at LB. Have you seen how many injuries the LB core has seen this season? What other choice did the Eagles have?

The only thing that I believe has any legitimacy in your post is this:

McCoy, Maclin and Harris have traded in the school books for the playbooks. And as the Eagles get ready for the playoff environment of Giants Stadium, they are going to have to prove again they are ready to play just a little bit faster and with just a wee bit more precision to help the Eagles win a game that could go a long ways toward determining their playoff fortunes.

The rookies will have HAVE HAD a big role. All we can do is hope that they will maintain this role and improve each week.

am I the only one that doesn't understand these posts?

Are you trying to say that our rookies are no good? Is the point to rip on Spadoro?

by zoso7374 on Dec 12, 2009 11:04 AM EST reply actions

I'm not sure either

He starts off like he wants to bash Dave, but the only way he bashes Dave is by disagreeing with Dave’s positive assessment of our rookies.

So, in effect…all he does is bash the rookies.

Weird.

I don’t get it.
