Ravens' coach John Harbaugh blasts Cowboys

about 1 month ago: Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh reacts to an official's call during the first half of an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in Baltimore. (AP Photo/Rob Carr)

John Harbaugh is currently the coach of the Ravens, but spent nearly a decade in Philadelphia as the Eagles special teams coordinator. So clearly he has no love lost for the Cowboys. In a new book written by some local Philly sportswriters, ESPN NFC East blogger Matt Mosley found a very interesting quote from Harbaugh...

Asked why the Eagles have had so much success from 1999-2008 and the Cowboys haven't won a playoff game during that period, Harbaugh had this to say:

"Why is that? Because what Andy Reid and his program stand for if the opposite of what the Cowboys stand for. The Cowboys are a star system. It's all about building around individuals first and collecting talent, collecting great players. Andy has always been about building a team. And over the long haul, it's a team sport, and one of the greatest examples of that is what's happened with the Eagles and the Cowboys over the last 10 years. The Cowboys stand for everything that's wrong with the NFL."

That should help fan the flames of not only the Eagles/Cowboys rivalry, but might spark something between Dallas and Baltimore as well.

Haha

That is great. And he helped close out the old Cowboys stadium with a bang last year. Might I add, the Yankees similarly stand for everything that’s wrong with MLB.

Two of the most hated teams in America. Should be “Americas(Most Hated)Team”

No surprise that they formed an alliance together! If the NFL lacked a salary cap, like MLB, we all know Jerruh would be giving star players from across the league ridiculous contracts to buy his way to titles year in and year out.

In the end, though, I’m not sure spending millions of dollars on stars will ever work in the NFL even without a cap because of the nature of the game – as Harbaugh was saying. Just look at the Cowboys or… the perfect case – the Redskins. Team work, coaching, a good system, and a solid organization makes for a good franchise. In baseball – you can still buy yourself a title since it’s much more of a game of individuals (and the Yankees prove). No one had to throw a block for Chase Utley to get him around the bases.

Very true! Not to mention the enigma of the Designated/Pinch Hitter. There’s very rarely a case where a guy well past his prime can be bought and plugged into a system where all he has to do is go out there and hit home runs.

Unless it’s Brett Favre, of course, because I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what he’s doing.

And before Cowboys fans get wind of this

Let me add, it’s not jealously. Don’t worry. I’d much rather have the consistent success then a teenage-old playoff drought. You aren’t even last year’s news; come 2010, you’ll be as old then as the Steel Curtain was when Irvin blew lines off a stripper’s tit.

Your owner, your team, your franchise. They blow.

God, do I love Dallas week.

?

The Cowboys have 5 superbowls. Sure, the last one came 15 or so years ago. Give me the superbowls and the years of futility.

As Eagles fans, it’s just something we have to deal with. Cowboys fans will always have a trump card until the Eagles win a superbowl.

As far as I'm concerned, our titles in '47, '48, and '60 are just as relevant as their three-ring run in the '90's

Which is to say, there is nothing that is the same. Except the owner, which I am quite frankly ecstatic about.

It’s one thing to be a recent Super Bowl champion and sustained success since that time (read: Giants), it’s entirely another to be irrelevant for thirteen years.

Even if we won a superbowl they’ll say that have 4 more. It doesn’t matter… as long as we beat them on the field on sunday.

John Harbaugh rocks.

I still wish he was our special team coordinator…

That was the most polite way of saying Jerry Jones ruins whatever chance they have at being a team.

he's completely right.

the eagles/cowboys game worries me not because of their talent, but because of Jerry Jones’ wallet that’s itching to buy Dallas another SB ring. They gotta pay for that 60 yard television somehow, what better than buying their way to the SB? (don’t think he doesn’t try to sway the league/officials into his favor).

Even if i wasn’t an eagles fan, I still think Reid deserves a title for always bringing the team first and still having success. I’d rather win with a team of no-namers than a team built around a couple prima donnas.

Ummm...

Hate to be a wet blanket, but looking strictly at results, NEITHER of us has a Super Bowl Ring in the given period. Thus, I think saying one or the other is worse seems a little silly (plus, we’re 2-2 with the current coaches, Doesn’t get much more even than that…)

Cowgirls bad, Eagles good. Jerry, evil. Andy, dedicated. That’s all I need to know.

I like this quote:
“The Cowboys are a star system. It’s all about building around individuals first and collecting talent, collecting great players. Andy has always been about building a team. The Cowboys stand for everything that’s wrong with the… "

Maybe I still have too much baseball on the brain….but I believe you could swap out team names there…..ok, maybe I’m still a little sore about last week! Damn!

(Man, it can be tough being a Philly sports fan……..when you don’t live anywhere near Philly! )

Yeah Unclimbed Fruit

Since Jones pushed and devised the salary cap he would definitely be another Steinbrenner.

Hey Philly fans

Romo and Austin were undrafted no names that deserve to be stars. Barber, Witten and Ratliff have worked their butts off to get where they are. I thought McNabb and Westbrook were superstars. Guess I was wrong.
