Semi-pro player tackles own teammate on a punt return - Shutdown Corner - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
We've all seen soccer or hockey players accidentally score an own goal, usually on a fluke deflection or errant clearing pass. Basketball players sometimes get unlucky too and make a basket for the wrong team. Heck, Jim Marshall of the Minnesota Vikings once returned a fumble into the wrong end zone. But this I've never seen.

The Giants are the team I dislike the most -- and it's not close -- but I get more excited about facing the Cowboys. Games against the Giants are deadly serious business (well, most of them, thanks Eli!). Games against the Cowboys matter just as much, but the entertainment dial -- set at about a three for the typical Giants game -- is usually closer to a nine or ten for the Cowboys.
Reid diversifies pass-heavy offense with new, exciting short pass | Philly Gameday
Eagles head coach Andy Reid is no stranger to criticism regarding the lack of diversity in his offense, which has a habit of being pass happy at times. Today, Reid announced that he is looking to diversify his pass happy offense, with a new, exciting short pass that he and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhingweg just developed.

I agree with antonio pierce on this one!
"We’re a complete embarrassment," middle linebacker Antonio Pierce said. "In just three weeks, we went from a team that was very disciplined to a team not doing the right things."

Now that's just funny...
Reid would not say which down and distance would be ideal for this new, innovative play, but did say that he plans to work this play into his game plan which typically consists of 350 passes and 1 run.

This is comical
How is this a big game? Wade Phillips is going to be on the opposing sideline, right?
Why is anyone other then the players and coaches concerned about winning this game?

Its a big game for the cowboys but not really for us
it is for first place in the division but this is way more important for the cowboys because if they win all of a sudden they are “legit now”
Let's get it.

Not a big game for us
We lost to two teams that dominated the first half of the season, and then, only by a combined total of 9 points, in the closing seconds of the game.
No one overpowered us.
and we didn’t lose to the Raiders…

Damn right.
This is a perfect storm game for the team that wins. Dallas can either prove that they are for real or the Eagles can cement their dominance over the division. This one is going to matter and I hope its going to be a good game.
This is why I’m a fan.

as a Dallas fan
I can only hope the Eagles go easy on us. Hopefully, we will be able to limp out of the Linc with enough players intact to field a team for the following game.
I mean, sure, we can bring up the past and say the standard party line of “5 rings, baby, 5 rings”, but we all know that what happened in seasons past doesn’t count for squat, right?
I mean, surely all the Cowboys are waking up in cold sweats thinking about 44-6.
Oh, but wait, that was last year? Hmmm.
But this is the exact same Cowboys team, so it still applies, right?
Sure, I mean the Eagles just smashed the Giants, giving them their first, no, second, no wait, third defeat.
And didn’t the Giants lose to the Raiders? no?
oh, well anyway, Dallas doesn’t have a chance with all their locker room distractions.
I mean, surely T.O is, oh wait, he is gone.
Hmm, but Pacman will get torched, oh, wait, hmm, he is gone too.
Surely Romo will pull out one of his infamous November choke jobs right?
Surely the stats show he is horrible this time of year.
I mean, look at Romo last week, he was so wishy-washy, he couldn’t settle on one receiver to throw to! The idiot must have thrown to, what, 10 guys?
You can’t win like that, it was just dumb luck!
And we all know he is a turnover machine.
And the Eagles have Jackson, I mean, come on! Dallas doesn’t have any kind of deep threat that can match Jackson.
I am hoping that old number 22 will show that upstart Austin exactly how he wraps ups tackles.
Just triple cover Witten and it’s a GUARANTEED win!
Not like they are playing with any kind of urgency or internal motivation.
Crayton humbly accepts that he was passed over by Austin, and his production is down accordingly. Ware will kick back and spend the season counting his money.
Brooking will slack off now that he beat his old team.
Yep, it’s a shame that the Cowboys are focused on being a team, and that they are only concerned with winning, regardless of style points or margins.
Maybe one day, we can forget the “blue collar underdog us against the world” mentality and get back to being a bunch of Hollywood superstars!
Ahh, good times, good times indeed…

Dont think there isnt any drama on your team just yet.
Per Pro football talk –
Last year, Cowboys No. 1 receiver Terrell Owens reportedly believed that quarterback Tony Romo was throwing too many passes to other players, and not enough to T.O. This year, Terrell Owens is gone, and the team’s new No. 1 receiver is expressing a similar sentiment, but with a decent amount of tact. “It’s just not even close,” Williams said, per Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com. “It’s not even funny. Not even close. . . . I’m the No. 1 receiver. But things are just going No. 2’s way.” The No. 2 is Miles Austin, who has broken out dramatically in the past few weeks. “He gets the ball thrown correctly his way,” Williams said. “I’m stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who’s been here’s balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now.”

Roy 11 is either
stating the obvious or crying.
Either way, it won’t matter.
Take him out of last weeks game, and Romo still hit 9 different receivers, and amazingly, they were all wearing Cowboys colors.
Uncapped season coming up soon, and Roy will be dumped.
And JJ has very deep pockets.

I have no doubt
good or bad, he will spend whatever he has to win again.
and so will every other big market team.
I have to admit, back in the 90’s, when the NFC championship was the real superbowl, I loved it.
But after getting a bit older, I enjoy seeing parity.
Would guys like DeSean Jackson or Miles Austin ever have gotten a chance to rise to stardom in a uncapped league?
Hard to say.
In some ways, it feels like wins mean more with the salary cap, that nothing is ever certain.
I do however, hate the idea of an 8-8 team making the playoffs, but if it will give me a more exciting game, so be it.
But then again, in the end, its a game played by millionaires, who work for billionaires.
And it’s all of us who fund that.
They get paid, win lose or draw.

I can see it reverting to that system.
And spending all that money still can’t buy you heart.
I look at the game where Green Bay and a young Brett Favre went to Candlestick and mugged the 49’ers.
That was a great game, in that no one gave Green Bay a shot.
Hate the 90’s Cowboys all you want, but E. Smith had a will to win that sometimes carried that whole team.

You're going to be disspointed
When you realize this “uncapped year” doesn’t really allow for the kind of spending you’re relying on.
There’s major restrictions on place that won’t allow teams to spend tons of money. In some ways, it will actually hamper their ability to spend.

I just wish Westbrook was 100%.
i would love to see a game where both teams were firing on all cylinders.
NY is my designated team to hate this year, so it’s really hard to get a dog-cussing lather worked up on the Eagles.
I am, however, more excited about this game than any in recent years.
I am hoping for a wild shootout.

I don't know what you consider old?
Didn’t the Eagles just sign 32 year old Trotter? Who was out of football all of last year?
Dallas had alot of churn in the off season.
If you consider Jenkins, Scandrik, Spencer, Ware and Ratliff old and slow, you need to pay more attention to football.

The only way DeSean gets bottled up is by constant man to man and over the top combined coverages because of Terrance Newman's 'speed' at 31 years of age
That obviously takes two players out of the play for one, as long as the Eagles are scheming right (running deep posts/slants/go’s that isolate DeSean and his two bumpin’ buddies).
Making it a 9-on-10 with the offensive line finding its groove and the endless assortment of weapons the Eagles have at their disposal is a relatively dangerous game.
For years, we had to deal with a Catch-22 on defense. Now, it’s your turn. Pick your poison.
by cwel87 on Nov 6, 2009 8:51 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Old defense? …Huh? Aside from Keith, Bradie, Newman, Hamlin, and maybe Igor, that team is rather young on defense. And really, those guys, barring Keith, really aren’t THAT old.

As most Eagles opponents are learning on a weekly basis, DeSean Jackson is very fast and very hard to contain.
I believe the Cowboys were the first to witness this last year. Desean would have had his first big play TD against the Cowboys but, being the good team mate he is, decided to leave the ball at the 1 yd line so his buddy BWest could score instead.

Cowboys v Eagles
Allow me to paint a picture, this is how I think the game ends on Sunday night:
[Its near the end of the 4th qtr and McNabb has just hit Jackson with a pass that goes 52 yards for a touchdown. Its been a hard fought battle, and both teams are leaving it all on the field. With about 2 minutes left, Romo marches the Cowboys offense down the field, into the redzone, by getting the ball to three different recievers.]
And then….
The Cowboys line up in shotgun formation. Witten is lined up in the slot, Austin is on the left, Williams on the right, and jones and choice are both in the backfield. The ball is snapped and Romo drops back, looks left, looks right, avoids a sack and then throws the football straight to Asante Samuel.
Pick Six.
Gametime.
Eagles beat the Cowboys 28-17.
by cowboysrealist on Nov 5, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
or
he looks back left, throws to Austin and Samuels applies his standard whiff tackle and we go to overtime, where, oh my deja vu, Austin throws off another patented slide off grab by #22 and races to the end zone for the game winning score…
