Why the Eagles will win the Superbowl and the NFC East title.
I believe the Eagles will win the NFC East title for two reasons. The Giants are falling apart at this point of the season and another victory over them in next weeks game will essentially put the nail in their 09' coffins. Now when it comes to the Cowboys... let's be honest Tony Romo's inability to play once his calendar changes to December coupled with their remaining schedule really makes me doubt their ability to be able to take us out. As you all probably know they still have to play three NFC East games and the currently 10-0 Saints who i dont think the Cowboys are able to beat and last but not least they play the Chargers nuff' said.
Now for my superbowl claim i feel we can beat any team in the league. This is the time of year our four quarter inconsistencies usually get worked out and we actually play some good 60 minute games as opposed to their early season 30 minute games. We've already played one of the tough teams we'll most likely face in the playoffs in the Saints which if you remember we were only down by 3 going into half time with our back up quarterback starting his first NFL game now don't get me wrong he played a great game but of course the second half was where it all went wrong. Fumbling the opening kickoff of the third quarter for an easy Saints td and Kevin Kolb's interception for another Saints score the following drive took us from a winnable game to a 17 point hole against one of the leagues premiere offenses. Our offense will get its play makers back by the time the playoffs roll around (Westbrook, Jackson, Curtis, etc.) and hopefully get some defensive tools back and to 100% (Samuels, Brown, Jordan) among other players getting fully healthy. I think we can make the Superbowl run and finally finally get that illusive ring and also propell super five into that hall of fame status he deserves.
What do you guys think?

um? does anyone else want a go at it before I do?

3 words. Stop being complacent.
We won 2 hard fought games and still have to go through a rough road ahead. I absolutely hate when people/fans over react to everything, be it a win or loss. This is especially true last year in the NFC championship game, where I was considered a downer because I didn’t think the Eagles would steam roll the Cardinals. Surprise, surprise? I wasn’t.
I love your optimism 5savestd. But I can’t agree with you on your reasoning.

Agreed
The fact is not many of us on here are realist. We’re so disillusioned because we love the Eagles so much. You would have thunk we played fucking awesome the past two weeks by recent comments.
To the original poster — whatever you’re smoking — I WANT SOME!!
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
also agreed
we could finish 11-5 or 9-7 and with the inconsistency of this team, I wouldn’t be surprised with any of it

NFC East......
I agree with you about the Eagles winning the NFC East. The Giants are falling apart. The Cowboys just don’t have it. And the Redskins are already out of it. Plus, as you said, this is the time of year the Eagles play their best ball.
They have a stable OL now….Peters, Herremans, Jackson, Cole, Justice are just going to get better, along with the running game. No one knows which of the receivers will be the go to guy now. Could be Avant, Maclin, Jackson or Celek…..and I think even Reggie Brown will get more playing time. McCoy will get better, Weaver is a monster who can run, block and catch. And Buckley has shown he can be a force too. This team is just getting better and better. As for the Super Bowl…..I’m not sure. NFC Championship good possibility. If we win that, we’re in. If the Eagles meet the Saints in the Super Bowl, they’d have to be at the very top of their game defensively and offensively, and play mistake free football. The Saints are a well oiled machine who makes very few mistakes and will capitalize on any mistakes made by their opponent. I’m not sure if the Eagles are there yet. NFC East…….yes, no doubt……NFC Championship, maybe……Super Bowl…….doubt it. But I hope you’re right and I’m wrong……lol.
It would be hard for the Eagles to face the Saints in the Superbowl...
…considering they’re both in the same conference (NFC). I think there is a good chance that the Eagles play the Saints in the playoffs and I think there is a good chance they can pull off an upset. The Saints haven’t been playing that well lately and injuries throw everything out of wack…so we’ll see. Maybe the Eagles will play the Colts in the Superbowl though since there really isn’t many standout teams in the AFC. Maybe the Bengals will make a miracle finish for this season and win it all…anybody could. Titans are even still in it for the AFC…
LOL
If the Saints play like they did last night, they’re unbeatable.
"The last time the Eagles won by scoring in the final two minutes of regulation was a 23-20 win over Oakland in 2005."
I still don't buy the Saints
Look at their schedule:
Detriot
Philly (without mcnabb)
Buffalo
Jets
Giants (when they started they’re decline)
Miami
Atlanta
Carolina
St Louis
Tampa
Patriots
I see maybe 2 good games there. Atlanta and the Pats. And thats a big maybe. Atlanta isn’t all they were cut out to be, and the Pats defense isn’t really that good.
Other than that, they haven’t played anyone that’s worth a damn.
Thats true, but you could pretty much say that about half the teams with a winning record this year. Its crazy how many really bad teams there are.

And i'm not single-ing them out
I just think it takes more than a few wins over Detriot, jets, buffalo, tampa, carolina, stlouis, and miami to be considered some unbeatable team. Hell St louis and Carolina gave the Saints a struggle!
I just think they’re being over built up. Peaking too soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost their first playoff game.
I wouldn't say just as easy
Saints played us without Mcnabb. Not saying we would have won, but everything would have been different, from preparation to mindset.
Second, we’ve played the Saints, Chargers, Cowboys. Minus our loss to Oakland, we’ve lost to teams that have fairly strong records. Saints simply have not. Only good win on their schedule I see is the Pats. They struggled with St Louis and Carolina, and mopped up the bottom dwellers of the league.
LOL
Saints are a great team and would pose a serious challenge for our Defense who havent even been able to stop the skins! that being Said our D is seriously injured and if they can get healthy gel and take there gm to another level they could beat the saints or whoever else we face. They bottomline though is our D must get healthy and fast!!
My biggest problem with the Saints is they run the no huddle a lot, which means we cant put in any blitz packages, which means Brees sits in the pocket for 10 seconds on each play and picks us apart.

um no way....
well almost….i was hoping this was the eagles year but if the playoffs started today we have to beat the Cards in the 1st rnd. then the Saints at the dome and then if we win that we have to play the Vikes at thier dome…..really a tuff road and a very slim chance that we can contain 3 great offenses …..but as you know in the NFL anyone came make it to the Superbowl….so lets hope , but im just bein realistic.
goals
The first goal is to make the playoffs. At 11-5, they’re in. At 10-6, they’re probably in. At 9-7, I don’t like their chances. Two wins in the next two weeks and they’re almost there, though.
The second goal is to win the division. They can do it without beating the Cowboys, but it would be a long-shot. But assuming they beat the Cowboys in week 17, they’re essentially in first place now (the win would even them up plus give them fewer division losses). Not bad.
The third goal would be to finish ahead of Arizona which could be important because if things play out by seeding (a big if), finishing ahead of Arizona would put them up against the cooler of the conference’s two best teams. Maybe that would be the Vikings stumbling in at 12-4 and playing with a fading (or injured) Favre. Not that likely but not out of the question.
The bottom line is that I think the Eagles are extremely well positioned for a good playoff run at this point (and thanks to the person who noted that this was their best 11 game start since 2004) assuming that they’ve got a team that’s good enough to compete with the big boys.
My biggest concern is that they haven’t had a single sixty minute performance that makes me think they are, in fact, a superbowl contender. They stayed on the field against New Orleans? They came back on a good San Diego team? They should have beaten Dallas? Where are the good performances this season?
I’m still crossing my fingers, and, again, I think the stars are aligning if they finish strong. The schedule even looks good (on the road against an injury riddle Falcons team and the fading NY Giants, at home against a mirage of a 49er team and the now exposed Broncos, before finishing up against Dallas). But is this team up to the challenge? I don’t know.

Love the enthusiasm
But how bout we take it one game at a time. I mean we struggled with the Redskins and Bears (no offense because it showed alot of character from our teams to come from behind and finish the games like they did). I have faith in the Eagles to but I would rather think about the Falcons next week and then the Giants the week after and so on. We have to get healthy and young players have to grow up and groups have to gel. So lets just let them do that first.
true
but isnt it like week 12 ? when well all this gel’n happen that i keep reading about ?
One week at a time...
let’s go to Atlanta, and try (as hard as it might be for some of us) to root for the Giants…then we’ll worry about beating the Giants next week…
can’t even think playoffs right now. This eagles team hasn’t sold me on their consistency yet. We could go 11-5, or 9-7 and nothing would surprise in that 3 game spectrum.
Division likely comes down to our game vs Dallas week 17

Did you watch the game tonight?
Brees had a 158.3 rating against Bill Belichik. Yeah he’s kinda good.
There’s a difference between can and will. Can the Eagles win the Super Bowl? Yes. Will they? Their defense has looked bad against the likes of Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell, and even Jamarcus Russell. They have to play much more consistency or Brees may put up more than 48 points this time. Ditto for Favre.
defense wins championships
lets keep teams to under 20 before talking about the superbowl
My take....
I agree that the NFC East is definitely there for the taking, and I do believe we’re going to take it. The Cowboys face a tough road and the Giants need to transform themselves to take it (although they can gain some ground by beating Dallas this week). We caught a little break by getting Atlanta without Matt Ryan, so theres no excuse for us not winning that one.
As for the Saints and Vikings, its pick your NFC divisional round poison. For me, the Vikings are the lesser of two evils. We’ve had more success vs. Brett Favre than Drew Brees, and the Saints’ receivers are more problematic because they’re bigger and more physical. I just think the Eagles can stay with the Vikes…..but the Saints are on a different level right now.
I hear you guys the Saints dismantled the Patriots last night i hate to say the Patriots secondary did not look good at all but that of course can also be attributed to Brees. I just wish Donovan could have the consistency the other Qb’s usually have granted Manning/Brady have their off nights but it seems like Donovan likes to have his off quarter’s every game let’s just hope he can finally put that sketchiness behind him and play with the big boys Brees/Favre with his young and talented bunch.
i love your optimism..............
but cmon , as of right now the Eagles arent even on the same planet as the Saints or even the Vikes. The freakin Saints are just unreal!!!!! Ive never seen a Belichick team so thoroughly taken apart so if we were 2 beat the Saints we would have to make some HUGE improvememts and/or adjustments on Defense. Getting to the game we played against them in philly which was close at the half u hav 2 remember that yeah even tho we didnt hav #5 we still couldnt get a stop 2 save our lives. So i dont think Donavan was gonna make the outcome of that game any different.
As for your point about getting back Westy and Curtis theres no gaurantee that either of them will be back this year, let alone contribute.
Not Ready........Yet
After watching the Saints destroy New England….which I was glad to see….I’m even more convenced that today the Eagles aren’t ready for the Saints. Probably not many teams in the NFL are……….today. But……..if the Eagles continue to improve they way they have been, by the end of the season they might have a chance against. them. I don’t think they’ll beat them, but they’ll give them a more competitve game than the last one.
I also believe that on paper the Eagles have more talent…..defensively and offensively, but this team is still learning how to play together. The Saints have been doing it for a couple of years now. Between the rookies and first year players, these guys are still learning the Eagles system. Next year………the Eagles will be ready for anybody. They will kick some royal butt. This year……..they’ll win the NFC East…..which will be one hell of a task when looking back at all the quick changes that had to be done because of injuries. All Eagles fans should be proud of the team if they can only take the NFC East this year. I am now and I will be then……Goooooooooo Eagles…….
