Bust out your asprin....
Good win against the Redskins. The Redskins did not look like a 3-7 team coming in to this game. What really urks me are two things. One, the Thrid Quarter WAS WASTED BY THE EAGLES OFFENSE. It was sad. Second, more injuries :(
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a concussion against Washington, the second offensive starter to get a serious head injury against the Redskins this season.
Jackson left the game after he was hit on a catch late in the third quarter. The Eagles originally said Jackson suffered head and neck injuries.
"It wasn't quite like that one where (Westbrook) was knocked out like that. We'll just have to see how he does here. We'll do the test on him and evaluate him."
Our best WR just has to get hurt. Hopefully he checks out a-ok but it is easy to foresee him missing a week of action. What is very conserning is that we only have 3 active WR's now: Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, and Reggie Brown....This would be a perfect tiem for the return of Kevin Curtis. Who knows, maybe Vick might be running a few slants and curls.
Brent is one of our emerging weapons and I think our second best (DeSean first!). He is very good in the passing game and decent in the run. And I am happy we got him long term. But I was peeved at him last week. He dropped 3 first downs and basically killed the third quarter for our offense. If you have a sprained thumb, instead of being tough and playing thru but killing our offense. I would rather have Alex Smith be in and actually get us the first. I like him, but if he cannot perform, take yourself out instead of hurting us. Hopefully he's back soon catching TD's. (Also the penalty in the endzone peeved me off too.)
Bunkley and Patterson are like our "Williams Wall of Minnesota." They give us a incredible inside presure. But late in the game Bunkley twisted his ankle. I am not sure how extensive it is but this is another major loss from a already frail defense.
Others already out
Akeem Jordan-knee
Brian Westbrook-head
Kevin Curtis-knee
If all these guys were out for next week against ATL, do you feel confident winning. I say yes b/c two of their best offensive players are out (Tuner, Ryan)

Wait....
I found more. Just as I was leaving this page my eyes couldn’t help scanning it again.
THIRD, CONCERNING, and PRESSURE.

what about some percocet
I’m not really that worried. As much as I would love for our team to be healthy, injuries come with the game. We’ll be fine.

Our DTs don't give us any pressure at all.
Decent run stoppers though.
true
Our DT don’t get any pressure on the QB. That is their major downfall in becoming one of the best tandems in the NFL. They do a decent job at holding their spot, which is alright against the run to clog up the inside, but when you have Cole getting an outside rush and moving the QB up in the pocket and you still never see any pressure on the QB unless we blitz….that’s not good.
We need pass rushing DT, but all in all I don’t mind the two we have the run D is great just need more push up the middle.
you guys have to keep in mind
that our DTs are only in for 2 downs. We use the basic idea that the first 2 downs are meant to stop the run, hence, we keep our DTs in. Because they are so good at that, it allows us to sub in the pass rushers on 3rd and long. That is how we get sacks. Blitzes are just more ways to open up holes to attack and confuse the opposing offensive line and QB and guarantee a loss of down, a sack, or turnover. But we drafted our DTs so high for that reason alone. To stop the run and force 2nd and 3rd and long.
Now, if they do get sacks, that’s a bonus, but their main job is to command a gap and feed the runner to a LB.

on the topic
Gocong is an extension of the DTs. He is used as the “defensive fullback” in that he too attacks the LOS, usually commands a gap or a blocker, and allows another LB or a S to get a clean tackle. And you’ll notice that he too is only in on 1st, and occasionally on 2nd down. He will only be in on a 3rd down if its 3rd and 4 (or less), or if the opposing team has a heavy 22 personel package on 3rd and long (22 being 2 TEs, 2 RBs, one of whom is a FB). The problem with that is that heavy 22 personel on 3rd and long is almost guaranteed to be a play-action pass or a delayed screen, and we all know what happens when Gocong is out in coverage. This is why that same play against the Raiders killed us. That play-action that hit the FB in the right flat. Gocong was in there reading the play (another skill he doesn’t have), and kept biting on the play-action because he, like any normal person, simply didn’t believe that they could run the SAME PLAY so many times.
But I digress…Gocong is essentially a roving DT

good point
I do realize this and I’ll admit I’m too lazy to look it up and don’t have much of a lunch break either. But they are in enough to notch at least a few sacks now and then or QB hurry. I could be wrong but it seems like I never see either of them in the backfield unless it’s a blown play by the offense or even making a tackle for loss. They do their jobs well, hold their block and don’t get pushed off much but it certainly would be nice to see them blowing up a play or two now and then.
