Pretty angry after reading this
Was on BBI a Giants board.
Justin in PA : 11/2/2009 11:14 amSo, if anyone reads my other thread, I was at the game with two friends who are Eagles Fans. We had to park out at citizens bank b/c the Linc was full. I was wearing a Giants coat. I've been there 3 other times in Giants garb with no problems.
I use a wheelchair. I've had mild cerebral palsy since birth. It is what it is. I've never been so offended in my life as I was leaving the parking lot yesterday.
Two separate guys told me I was lucky I was in a wheelchair cuz if I wasn't, they would put me in one (Philly fans are original)
One guy told me, that I was in a wheelchair because God hated me because I was a giants fan. (He smelled like weed)
One guy told me, I got f*cked twice when I woke up in the morning, once for being in the wheelchair, and once for being a Giants fan.
We didn't know what to do, so we just laughed it off, and told them to get a life, but that just agitated them more.
It was so bad, the guy in front of us turned around and told us he hoped we knew all Eagles fans weren't like that.
i hope the yanks frigen kill them in the world series, and I don't even mind the phils...
Next game, I'm bringing a nondescript coat to put over my jersey...
Be thankful your a Giants fan today, and always act with class..
I know we try and say "every fan has our bad apples," but we truly have an over abundance of classless fans. I have no problem with being a rowdy bunch, but stuff like this is totally inexcusable!!

Yeah I read that yesterday, pretty despicable how far some people take things.
The thing that really pisses me off is that the fans that do these things are not even the real Eagles fans. They’re the people that would go crazy whenever Dawkins got a big hit and then go right back to chugging a beer and not giving a shit.

You're probably right
I just wish they would go away. There’s a difference between being passionate and being pieces of pure dirt. I have gone to a Giants game with a Eagles jersey on and I’ve only got 1 comment after the Giants got crushed badly. I’ve seen/heard of kids of opposing teams getting beer dumped on them, objects thrown at them, spit on etc… It’s too freaking far!

I watched a guy go into a port o pot
at the Linc in a Redskin jersey and 3 guys in green just pushed it over.
When being an asshole gets in the way of being human…its definitely gone too far.

I really wish people would stop making us look so bad Philly fans get like the worst rep in the NFL and then when people do stuff like this it makes us all look bad and people say everybody in Philly is like this. The media always writes about us like we all hate McNabb and Reid and are always calling for his termination, which isn’t true I like both of them and even a poll was taken that showed most Eagles fans approve of them. It sucks because all I can do is be accountable for myself and not behave like them but I can’t stop every wild fan who makes us look like cavemen.

Too many people use the reputation as an excuse to act like aholes out in public and abuse other people. Just because people expect you to do it doesn’t mean you have to fulfill those expectations.
These people aren’t really fans of the team. They just want to get drunk and fight.

That’s exactly the problem. People take too much pride in our reputation as one of the rowdiest sports towns in the country. They feel like its their duty to keep the reputation going by being as uncivilized as possible to opposing teams and fans. I’m loving the passion of our fan base, but some people just take things in the wrong direction.

Should involve the game and the sport, not a fan’s personal characteristics. This isn’t a Philly behavior. Its asshole behavior. People like that derserve to be the ones that get their asses beat.

At the bar in NY last year
I live in NY, i go to the same bar with the same crowd every week for years now. Yes, I’m the only Eagles fan among Giants blue and Jets green (token Raider fan, Lion fan, a couple steelers fans, and a small group of Cowboy homers). When we played the Giants in playoffs, the bar saw a ridiculous surge in Giants fans (literally in jerseys they just bought with the tags still on them so they could return them after)
A table nearby (new guys who were there for the first time, and probably assumed the same of me) started talking shit, which is fine…I like it, I do it too. But the fat kid on the end didn’t know where to draw the line, and he looks at me with my wife sitting next to me, points in my face and yells, “F&$# YOU!”
I don’t get angry or emotional very often, so I went to the table and explained to fatty and his friends that you can talk shit on the Eagles all day….we’ll go back and forth, it’s fun. But NEVER cross the line and make it personal! I don’t understand why that lesson seems so hard for people to learn.

I guess every fan base has its classless idiots. I was shocked to read this. Having a little fun and picking on an opposing fan about how his team sucks is one thing (because we all do that to each other), but disgracing someone’s medical condition is way over the line and an insult to humanity. Its really a shame that the good Eagles fans (which is most of us) get judged based on the actions of just a few asshole fans.

Joe_D, Gets the award for classiest fan
Wheelchair user or not, certain fans need to get a grip and calm down on fans of opposing teams. It’s ok to give a “Giants Suck” or whatever trash talking. But to intimidate any fan to make him feel unsafe or insult him because of his physical disability is just wrong. I love sports and the Philadelphia teams as much as the next guy, but ultimately it’s a game and entertainment. No reason to act like that over entertainment.
Joe, definitely find out what is needed for wheelchair accessible seating for the guy. You may want to try to work through either the Eagles or Giants PR to get proper seats for the guy. Even though your heart is definitely in the right place, getting him tickets that he can’t use may be unintentionally adding a little insult to injury.

I'm just always skeptical
Since it’s the agenda of everyone to paint Philly fans as animals, people try their best to keep up the memes.
I’ve been to a lot of stadiums and in my experience, Philadelphia fans aren’t really much different than anyone else. There’s a-holes who drink a lot at every teams’ game. If this kid really thinks Giants fans are any more “classy” he’s either deluded or lying. There’s been deaths after GIants games thanks to drunk fans.
It’s the unfortunate nature of sports fans all over the country and the world. In fact, fans here are tame compared to those in other parts of the world.

Kid has cerebral palsy in a wheelchair. And had a bad experience because of eagles fans. I have to say…. being a lifetime cowboys fan I dont think i have heard any sort of positive things about eagles fans helping out another teams fan. If you guys go through with this and make this kids day then I will have to start thinking twice about how i talk about philly fans.
Just look at this as a way to make up for all the times your fans threw stuff at people on the sidelines during the last few decades.

I’ve never read about Cowboys fans helping out other team’s fans, either. So that means they’re awful people and if I go to Dallas in my McNabb jersey I’m going to get cut, right?
No, of course not. Just that it’s not considered “news” when people act normally.
The vast majority of opposing fans at a Philadelphia sporting event get nothing worse than “Asshole” chanted at them. Classy? I guess not. Worthy of being branded bloodthirsty vandals? I don’t think so either.
What everyone needs to remember is that these actions are the actions of a minority. Opposing fans use that sample to label all Eagles fans.
Fine. If that’s the case, allow me to do the same. Every Cowboys fan is a bandwagon frontrunner who couldn’t find Dallas on a map.

police ourselves
If we really feel its only 7-10% of the fans that are taking it to a level it should never reach, then it shouldnt be too hard to change this picture we’ve painted. We should all take it upon ourselves to step up and tell our fellow eagles fan what they’re doin is over the line of just being a fan. Just thinking bout stoppin ppl from tipping porta-johns isnt enough. Man up, and do something. Ive told fans to shut up before when they’ve gone to far. if we all do our part to change the way opposing fans are treated, it will no longer happen. Be rowdy, tell them their team sucks, but leave the personal attacks out of it.
I was at the jets/eagles preseason game and told jets fans enough was enough as they cat called women in eagles jersey’s walkin to their seats. Not even in the upper teirs, i was down low 18 rows from the field It’s def. not just eagles fans. It’s a matter of human decency that alcohol negates.
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

As long as it isnt personal and jus the emotion of the game its fine…but disability jokes are jus like racial jokes bc they’re about something that someone cannot help. Racial jokes have become a staple of american comedy but disability jokes are kind of seen as taboo. But i still feel they’re wrong because a majority of racial jokes are jus stereotypes of actions and most disabilities unlike the actions of people cannot be changed.

There are some drunks out there just looking for trouble. They are in every stadium, not just here.
Where ever they sell alchohol, there will be an idiot. I’m glad there was no violence in that story, just some heckling from some idiot fans. Nothing unheard in most stadiums, there are places in the world where fans are friendly, I guess Philly isnt’ one of them. Like I said, I’m glad the story didn’t involve violence, just words. Bad behavior indeed, but at least it didn’t escalate.

To be honest, saying that they Yankees should kill the Phils at wearing a Giants Jersey at an Eagles game is a recipe for disaster.
This guy did throw some jabs at the fans as well, so I don’t know how much a victim he is. He could have been a total rear end Giants fan for what I know. Maybe the story is incomplete? Who knows? One things for sure, you have to be carefull not to throw fuel on the fire if you are in that situation, that just being smart. If you run into a drunk, don’t go at it with him, just ignore him. Don’t aggitate the situation.

why didn’t his friends stick up for him? he wasn’t defenseless he had friends there why didn’t they do something?
I feel bad that this guy had to go through this but people go through bad times every day.
If you feel it is your duty to make this right then by all means go forth.
my point is just this he said
Be thankful your a Giants fan today, and always act with class..this is false I’ve met plenty of classless Giants fans.

Im sure you ahve
But you’ve just been offended on the highest level. Do you think you’re going to feel great or have nice things to say about Eagles fans at this point? Not that he’s right, but understand where he’s coming from

here's one for you
i was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up a philly sports fan… for many years i lived and worked in NYC but never let go of my love/loyalty for philly teams… the good… the bad… the ugly…now i live in southern CA… i never miss an eagles game on tv and go to as many games as possible when philly teams play out here… i have tix for the flyers game in LA this month…OK… here’s the point of this… I’ve attended games in Philly… NYC… Anaheim… LA… San Diego… and many other cities… in my experience the greatest collection of assholes on the world of fandom reside in NYC and Philly… there is no discernable difference between the two… a person simply can not go to a flyers/rangers game in the garden wearing a philly jersey and expect anything less than obscenities and abuse… the same for the meadowlands when the eagles play there… from experience i know that wearing a NY jersey to a game in Philly is borderline suicidal… On the other hand, I can wear my flyers/eagles/phillies T shirts any time i go to see those teams play out here and the worse that happens is somebody will give me some good natured grief… my daughter and i were at a flyers/ducks game a couple yerars ago and there were tons of flyers fans there… it was great fun… especially since Philly won…
I love my Philly teams but i have nothing but contempt for those supposed Philly (and NY) fans who think that they have to act like idiots or they will be letting down their teams… they’re pathetic and an embarassment to their respective cities and their teams!!! Go Phils!!!

OK some of these responses are a bit bull shit
Jason, you believe someone just decided to fabricate a story that he’s in a wheel chair and got blasted just because he wanted for the Giants fans to sound superior? I think you’re better than that. And c’mon dude the Vet was the only stadium to have a jail… A fucking jail! They don’t put jails in stadiums because of reputation.
Listen, I UNDERSTAND fully that each and every team has their pieces of shit.
However, this whole thing isn’t about giving Justin retribution for Eagles fans. It’s about someone who went to the game and got blasted for no reason.
Have any of you ever been offended so bad? Put yourself in his shoes for two seconds instead of bitching about our reputation. If we all throw 10-20 dollars we can buy him some nice seats and show a gesture that goes above and beyond. I’m hoping I don’t have to eat most of this bill,,, and FYI Justin did e-mail me and he will need accessible seating.
We are a great group if people, and this is a great opportunity to show it.

I never said I flat out didn’t believe it. I simply said that I always have a healthy skepticism with this stuff.

An equally true story about the cruelty of Philly Phans.
This one time I was at the Linc and I saw a bus full of crippled orphans get off a bus to enjoy their first day out in the fresh air. You see, not only were they crippled, but they were all affected with a rare chromosomal disorder that kept them from going outside. They could only leave the darkened confines of their orphanage ONE DAY out of the entire year. This was that day.
Anyhow, to make a long story short, a gang of mean, green, Eagles fans decided to reenact Keith Byars shocking block on Carl Banks. They lowered their shoulders and ran headfirst into the gaggle of crippled, starving orphans, killing most. Then one particularly bloodthirsty gentleman in a Byron Evans jersey grabbed the scrawniest of the children, ripped his leg off, and drank his blood. Most of the orphans died and as a coup de grace, the barbaric Eagles fans skinned the corpses of the kids and fashioned kites from their flesh.

I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.

Oh yeah...
I was so emotionally scarred from this incident that it wasn’t until tonight’s session with my psychiatrist that I was able to remember that it was Pepper Johnson, not Carl Banks. And I also remember the way the sun shone through the membranous gore of the orphan flesh kites…oh the humanity!

Who doesn't love a good flesh kite?
I remember flying them back in my youth in the parking lot of the Vet. Ah, sweet memories of youth.
Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.

I will contribute for sure
I am a New Yorker Who lives in Manhattan and I am a Die -Hard Eagles fan and I find this kind of behavior deplorable and down right senseless. I love my Eagles and and me and the guys in my office talk smack about the G-Men and Philly Birds all the time but it never gets to the point of responding to one another in such an appalling manner. Please keep me posted on the ticket status I would really like help this kid know that REAL Eagles Fans do not act like this. I hope that my contribution can help serve as a reminder that we might be fans of a different team but we are all Human.

I don't understand why they would be so angry
after blowing out the Giants. Sounds a little made up, just a little too extreme. Plus it was an early game so people probably weren’t even that drunk, especially w/ the world series game on.
Either way, the trick is to get much drunker than the drunken idiots. People will still yell obscenities at you but you just won’t care.
