Am I the only one concerned about this?
Leonard Weaver's statement in block quotes below in response to a question he was asked about getting so many carries in the game against the Giants.
"It was kind of a shock at first," Weaver said. "During the week, I really didn't run the ball. It felt good to know that Andy Reid and [offensive coordinator] Marty [Mornhinweg] would trust me in that way and trust me enough to give it to me a couple times."
Am I the only one concerned that Weaver "really didn't run the ball" during the week, in practice? Even though Reid had planned to give him a significant number of reps? Now we all know teams that are good at running practice it quite a bit. Makes me wonder what percentage of our practice time we spend working on the run.
If I am to infer intelligently from Weaver's statement, we didn't work much during practice on the run plays we planned to use during the game against the Giants. Hopefully we don't do this often. If in fact we do, is it then a surprise to you all that we are not able to run effectively at key points in the game when we really need to move it on the ground?
Let me state that I am happy with the win and with the fact that the running game worked out for us anyway in spite of the lack of preparation. But boy, that disclosure is sort of alarming for an NFL team.

Why?
It’s called taking what the defense gives you. I’m sure they had options and that play looked like it would work based on that defense.
or practice and get 300 ……

Reid statement
he said they were planning on giving buckley some carries, I guess they saw the WEAVE on a roll and decided to stick to him (besides McCoy). If he could run the plays that means he knew the playbook and was prepared enough to do what he did.
If anything I am more worried about this
In the month of November, Tony Romo (not including this year) has a record of 11-2 from 2006-2008.
His stats are the following in the month of november from 2006-2008:
Att: 251, Comp: 360, Cmp Pct: 69.7, Yrds: 3362, TD: 33, INT: 9
The Eagles defense is going to have to be on their A+ game and the offense has to score constantly and capitalize on any and every opportunity the Cowboys mess up on.
I wonder what those numbers look like after November…when the pressure starts to heat up.

no offense macjack, but i hate statistics (especially like that) in football
if we can get pressure on romo, he’s gonna be romo, but honestly he has been playing good, i’ll give him that
Weapon X eats babies for breakfast.
I try not to
But I’m not a firm believer in coincidence. I think we still are one up on them, but the O, D, and ST is going to have to be on their “A” game regardless.
I really don't think Romo is gonna have a Sunday
Our Corner’s are gonna pick their teeth with Mr Improv’s tosses if our D doesn’t get to him first..
Positive side?
Maybe they will practice the run game and use it more now that AR sees how devestating his backs are and how productive a balanced offense turned out to be.
Maybe.
This is what I hope for…
What I know of Andy’s tendencies says something else.

probably not
From what I’ve seen the majority of time reid will start out with a fair balance of run and pass plays but unless the runs are atleast averaging like four or more yards he will just turn away from it. The reason I think we saw more runs this week is because leonard weaver showed him a spark early in the game and he felt comfortable running the ball. The problem I get with reid shying away from the run is when mcnabb isn’t grooving and we get no positive yardage, we end up in third and long and go three and out.
Thats what ticks me off...
Reid says “we need to run more effectively, not run more”. “When we chose to run, we have to run better!” He ALWAYS says this after a loss with an Unbalanced run/pass ratio attack!! If Reid doesnt see that we are getting BIG yards from a run, he turns always from the run and then PASS PASS PASS 3 and out! But our O-line and Backs had a good game last game so he STUCK with the run.
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
What Concerns Me
Is that Reid DOES in fact want to run the ball, but if he doesn’t get significant yards from it (say, 5-6 yrds per run), he stops running and starts call’n passes/ or gimmick plays in place of the run. There have been quite a few players on our team the past 2-3 seasons that have stated that “Coach gives up on the run a little early when its not gaining big yards!” Bwest said last year “Sometimes I tell coach to keep running even if its just for 3-4 yards. Because from that, you eat yards and then a big play or two usually pops at some point.”
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
This season our O-line spoke about the run Game..
After this past game, Jason Peters and Jamaal talked bout the run game ..
“If you call a play more, we’re going to get it going,” said left tackle Jason Peters. "Sometimes it doesn’t work and coaches go away from it, but we stayed at it today and we popped the big one. Both McCoy and Weaver popped one and we got 14 points out of it.
“We were just putting a hat on a hat. I have to go back and look at the film as to why it worked this week and not the previous weeks, but just trying to get McCoy (and Weaver) into the groove, get them the ball some and open it up. We’re going to pass the ball obviously and that opened up the pass a little bit more.”
His Statement Tells A Lot
And Jamaal..“I think it was just the coaches coming in with the mindset that, we have to run the ball,” said starting center Jamaal Jackson. “That was just the focal point all week; let’s not get away from the running game. They did a good job of calling the running plays in the right spots.” Another Telling Statement
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
Peters is more of a force as a run blocker anyway…
We have one of the biggest…if not THE biggest line in the entire league…We really would be best served going 50/50 and lettin our big guys up front wear down the D and keep our offense on the field…
Andy has never given two shits about time of possession or the clock for that matter…

I think it was said during the Redskins/Eagles game that the Eagles average weight upfront was 339 lbs, the largest in the league.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!
yeah...we have some big boys up front..
who probably LOVE to beat on opposing Dlines…
so how bout we let them…just half the time is all we ask.

My bad...forgot to Block quote the Jamaal Quote
"I think it was just the coaches coming in with the mindset that, we have to run the ball," said starting center Jamaal Jackson. "That was just the focal point all week; let’s not get away from the running game. They did a good job of calling the running plays in the right spots."

Running Opens the Pass
I don’t understand Why Reid doesnt see this more clearly!!
U run, and defense start to CHEAT their way up into the box! This opens up huge play especially in the MIDDLE of the field. If we continue to run the ball more, and effectively and DONT GIVE UP on it, Celek and Avant would have a field day over the middle. Simple as that man.
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
If we only Ran first..
If we Ran first, passed second…who the fuck is going to be able to defend this offense.
We have the backs to catch the dump offs for big gainers, we have one of the fastest wr tandems in the entire league, and we have Celek who is gonna fight for every inch.
If teams had to start accounting for the run more than our passing attack we’d be nearly indefensible…and then fatman would get his way…6-8 defenders in the box = BIG Passing Play…and we know how much we love the big play…

Exactly.
We know we hate it when teams do it to us. It just keeps the D a step behind all day, makes play action work and makes BIG plays inevitable. But then they just remember the big plays and try to get them from the beginning and if we fail we keep trying until we are behind and have no other option and the opposing D gets to just T off.
If AR/MM learn that other teams love it when we play that way and Hate it when we run first, we could be the Montana-era 49ers. It also makes our D much more effective.
Man Up, Establish physical dominance and EVERYTHING comes easy after that.
Even if they only really tried to run for the first half of the first quarter, then went pass heavy and then back to the run to finish out the game until they start moving up in the box again and BAM kill-shot deep. It would be legendary.
instead of just 'mythical"
But I loved that game gainst them gints. Bring on the COWPokers!!!! Under the lights of primetime.
cowboys defensive rankings
pass defense: 22nd
run defense: 14th
lets hope reid does not see that
Weapon X eats babies for breakfast.
because you have to keep them honest.

Leonard Weaver had 8 carries, his first carry went for a 41 yard TD … they might not have planned on giving him the ball 8 times but after that why not. It’s like Eaglefaneric said above they took what the defense gave them.
