What Our Game Against the 'Skins Showed
1. Asante Samuel is still out there. When was the last time he had a pick? I still wish we had Lito Sheppard. Think of how great a secondary that would be; Samuel, Sheldon Brown, Sheppard, Ellis Hobbs, and Joselio Hanson.
2. Our LBs are horrible at defending tight ends. Look what Fred Davis did on that (admittedly) magnificent catch-and-run. He also caught a TD pass. Every one of our next opponents, save for possibly the Denver Broncos (I don't know if Daniel Graham counts...) have a stellar tight end. Tony Gonzalez, Kevin Boss, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten? They're pretty good.
3. Jackson can exploit the best of secondaries for that big play. When the two teams first played on MNF, people said that DeSean Jackson's long TD catch (not to be confused with his endaround) was just a fluke against a defense starting DeAngelo Hall, Fred Smoot, and Carlos Rogers (as well as Brian Westbrook's little brother, Byron). I don't think it's a fluke anymore. Number 10 burnt them for his shortest touchdown of the year, 35 yards. Put that in perspective; both Torry Holt and Dwayne Bowe's longest TD catches have been for 41 yards.
4. We need to stop committing penalties. We had much too many, enough said. Actually, no. At least we didn't pull off a Shaun Rogers and horse collar Jason Campbell.
5. Vick needs some new ways to get on the field. Vick had another useless game today. Come on, Marty! Line up Vick as a wideout! Or a running back! Add some passing plays for him! Endaround passes! Lateral Passes! Fake Runs! ANYTHING!
Right now, I don't think there's any chance of getting to the Super Bowl. Not to be pessimistic. I hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. NFC Championship Game is a possibility. We should get hot in December, and we'll see where it goes.
(Please let Favre and the Vikings lose in the playoffs).
Oh, and as far as I see it, the Giants are out of the playoff hunt right now.
The Way I See It:
Either the Cowboys or Eagles will win the NFC East. If the Eagles win it, the Cowboys will get seed number 5. If the Cowboys win it, the Eagles get seed number 6.
Favre and the Vikings have pretty much locked up the NFC North. The Saints have done the same in the South. And the Cardinals should win the NFC West, barring an unimaginable run by the 49ers or Seahawks, and an injury to Leinart, as well as another concussion to Warner.
The Packers should win a wild card spot, as their 7-4 record indicates.
I think the Falcons won't get a wild card, because of Matt Ryan's injury.
As for the Giants? When Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg, I think the Giants focused too much on the wideout problem. Now they've got great seasons out of Mario Manningham and the other Steve Smith, but the rest of the team isn't playing well.
Another playoff season looks to be in the making.
Go Eagles.

I don't still wish we had Lito.
Sheldon is a man. The corners are fine…it’s the safeties we need help with! We do NOT need Vick to get on the field. We need to trade Vick today!
"Right now Winston Justice is the guy...until that person gets back out there"
We need vick to play enough
to prove he’s worth someone trading a 3rd for him…

We can’t trade Vick. Deadline’s past.

I meant during the offseason...
and evilbanner was saying “today” so it would stress how much he wants vick gone.

True That
But he still has speed; he’d be an amazing Josh Cribbs…
Well we were missing our best LB.
Akeem on the field would have made a big difference.
I am happy with Sheldon and Asante, I really don’t think Lito would make that big of a difference and the last thing I want to hear his him bitching because Asante and Brown are better then him.
We need Vick on the field to make plays so he is worth something in a trade. The only thing is we don’t know how to utilize him. And the timing of when he came in was useless. I still think he could be an asset to this team… if used correctly. But he will definitely be traded and we need something for him.
I cringe at all the penalties we had. it disgusts me.

he had two today and leads the team in picks in a unit that ranks near the lead league in turnovers
tied
he’s tied for first…

For second
Jarius Byrd leads the NFL with 8 and Asante is tied for 2nd with 7 along with Darren Sharper and Charles Woodson.

Who thought that Jackson couldn’t beat a good secondary?

Vick
He needs more time under center to prove his worth at this position, thus validating him again as a player and getting the Eagles something for him.
1. Asante Samuel is still out there. When was the last time he had a pick? I still wish we had Lito Sheppard.
Asanta had an INT just 2 games ago vs the Giants. He is tied for 2nd in the league with 7 INTs. NOBODY wants Lito. He flat out sucks. Played in only 6 games with 1 pick.
have a stellar tight end. Tony Gonzalez, Kevin Boss, Vernon Davis, Jason Witten? They’re pretty good.
Kevin Boss is not in the “pretty good” category like the others. Just 26 catches this year. His blocking on the other hand, is stellar.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
The Skins game showed that...
1. The Skins are not an awful team and should not be taken lightly. Their defense is tough. With that being said, the Skins ‘held’ the Cowboys to 7 points. We scored 27 on that same defense today. Take that for what it’s worth…
2. Asante gambles big, but it usually pays off big. He has 7 picks this year, so far. The person who just mentioned that he wishes we still had Lito… I don’t even know what to say to you…
3. Without a consistent pass-rush, Asante and the rest of the defense can’t take big risks which means less turnovers. We need a consistent threat opposite of Cole if we are going to make a deep playoff run. Abiamiri, where the hell are you??
4. Our play-calling MUST improve. And this means that we can’t put our star players in compromising situations like going with a Tight End screen to Brent Celek or having Action Jackson get his skull ripped by sending him on a 7 yard slant down the middle of the field. That’s no good. Protect your playmakers.
5. Our offensive line is still committing way too many penalties. Winston Justice is having a good year and I know he just got a fat new contract, but he better not let his foot off the throttle!
5. This Skins game showed that Donovan and the Eagles CAN orchestrate 4th quarter comebacks. The problem is that we shouldn’t have been in a position where we had to come back in this game…
"The problem with Philadelphia fans is that they want you to play every game like it's your last one." former Sixers center Shawn Bradley on Philly fan expectations.
With that being said, the Skins ‘held’ the Cowboys to 7 points. We scored 27 on that same defense today. Take that for what it’s worth…
Heh.
To that, I would like to add this:
The Skins scored 24 points on your team. Yeah, I know that one of the scores was practically gifted by the start of the game gaffe, but that’s still a lot of points.
After the Cowboys – Skins game many guys in here were pretty loud about the close victory and how the Cowboys deserved no respect because they’r awful…
Rivalries are hard to predict.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
redskins play tough division games
we both came out with wins. I can’t disrespect the Cowboys for only putting up 7 because they held the skins to 6

Abiamiri
Forced two holding calls against his blocker… the only reason he didn’t have two sacks is because of the holds. Go back and look, you’ll see them.

As mention earlier, Giants game few weeks ago. What hasn’t been said, though, is that his 7 pick so far in this season is more than either his last two season (4 in 2008 and 6 in 2007) in less starts. Why are you complaining about number of pick Samuel has?
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
asante had one of the nicest int’s of the year front sommersault just before it hit the ground…incredible..and right after his previous one, but thanks to our amazing redzone offense we took a field goal, two.and yea vick doesnt stand a chance… were not fooling anyone, we do need to try new things with him

1. i don’t want lito back, i like our corners
2. kevin boss shouldn’t be mentioned with the likes of witten, gonzo, and davis. but, I agree, we need to improve our TE defense.
5. stop it. vick belongs on the sidelines. i can tolerate one or two plays a game. there’s a reason he has “useless games”.
Vick lost his vision as well as other things...
He used to find holes and open spaces and gain major yardage. Specifically today, when he ran the QB draw and got stuffed with no gain, the entire right side was open and he totally missed it.
I’m still open to 1 QB draw, 1 run off tackle and 1 shotgun pass per game but not much more than that.
Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)
thats cause andy wants him to run up the middle and nothing but it, if andy wanted him to run right or left, youd see vick running right n left

5. I know a lot of people on here are high on getting M. Vick the ball. At this point, I could care less one way or the other. He’s good to have on 2nd/3rd-and-short plays, but that’s about it. At first I was lobbying for him to get some pass plays and make him more of a dynamic threat that defenses couldn’t figure out. As it stands now, M.Vick couldn’t throw a pass and hit the broad side of a barn with the actual broad side of a barn.
My opinion is, if he showed any sign of elusiveness or command of a huddle in practice, as well as the ability to throw the ball even semi-accurately, Andy would find a way to work him into game situations. From what I can tell, the guy just doesn’t have the “IT” factor he once had. Yes, he sat for two years, so I’m not going to go so far as to say he’ll never get there again. But, for now, he isn’t there. I, personally, don’t want to see him lined up at WR or RB or QB until he shows he can compete at those positions. I would love to see him run an option much like Young/Johnson run in Tennessee… thus utilizing what speed and elusiveness he may have.
Does anybody remember back when the Eagles announced Vick’s acquisition and Andy got a chubby little smirk on his face while uttering, “We have some plays planned for him… We can do a lot of things with him.” We have yet to see any of that creativeness Andy eluded to. Why? Because Vick isn’t ready yet. From what I can tell, Vick is only capable of taking a snap and running. That’s the type of play we want McNabb to run, only without the possibility of McNabb actually getting hurt.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!
Your whole arguement is based on what exactly?
We don’t have a good grasp as to what condition Vick and his throwing is. Just because he isn’t getting on the field doesn’t mean that hes garbage. You have to pick your plays wisely. I wouldn’t even be surprised if this whole Vick thing is just Reid hustling the league til come playoff time, and we get a flee-flicker to Jackson for the game winning SB TD. Perhaps not to this extent, but Vick is still useful. Even if we do just get a draft pick outta him.

My argument is based on Vick's game play.
We don’t have a good grasp as to what condition Vick and his throwing is.
I’m not sure you and I have been watching the same Eagles games. Vick hasn’t thrown the ball well once all year. Has he passed a lot? No. But when he has been called on to pass, he has done so terribly (I’ll resort back to his pass behind a wide-open Celek against Washington or behind a wide-open Jackson against San Diego). His reads are slow and his passes aren’t close to accurate. He’s 3-for-9 for a total of 6 yards all season. Two yards a completion. His longest pass was for 5 yds to Celek. Like I said up above, I guarantee you if Vick showed any promise whatsoever during practice, he’d definitely see more playing time on the field simply because he’d be another dynamic weapon.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if this whole Vick thing is just Reid hustling the league til come playoff time, and we get a flee-flicker to Jackson for the game winning SB TD.
You’re kidding, right? In all of these close games where this incredible play could come in handy, Reid is waiting for the playoffs, or better yet, the Super Bowl? That logic is flawed all over the place. Last I checked, the Eagles are still working towards making the playoffs. If he has some significant gadget play, waiting weeks and weeks to pull the trigger on it wouldn’t be such a wise move. He should be pulling the trigger just to make sure they get to the playoffs first. All us Eagles fans kept saying at the beginning of the year, “Andy won’t use Vick to his fullest against teams like Oakland or KC because it’d make more sense to use him to his fullest against our divisional rivals.” Okay, well the Eagles dropped a close one to Dallas. If M. Vick could be that much of an impact player at this point and time, why would they not use him in a close game like the Dallas game?
Even if we do just get a draft pick outta him.
Sounds great to me. Like I said before, he’s good to have on 2nd/3rd and short plays. But that has been the extent of it.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down... OH NOOOooo!
Uh...Asante hasn't been there for a little...
I meant that he hasn’t had a pick since the Giants game, in week 8. I know how well he did in the beginning of the season, believe me.
Oh And Also, About Lito
What’s wrong with Lito as a third corner? I have nothing against Asante. I love him, actually. But think about the plays that Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly made against us. They’re not starters (Moss and Randle El are, I believe). I meant: Asante and Brown start, Lito 3rd.
And about complaining about Samuel’s picks, I’m not complaining about the number, but think of it this way. We don’t count the Washington picks, as I’m not referring to those. He had 5 picks before yesterday. 3 of those came against the Raiders and Bucs. Specifically, JaMarcus Russell (Bust, most probably) and Josh Johnson (who was new to the starting job). One pick was against Delhomme, who imploded in the opener.
I don’t mean to discredit Asante, but he hasn’t performed great against the BETTER 50% of teams we played.
All it shows is....
That this years team still isn’t going to win the big one. McNabb played like crap AGAIN!
OK.....
Please explain why McNabb is the one, and how we are going to win the SB this year? Or, are ya just making plans for next year???
He’s the one because we have no better options. No, not Kolb, not any free agents, and nobody in the draft are better right now. We will win the SB because EFF YOU, WE’RE WINNING ANYWAY!
