Geoffrey Pope in, the Iguana out

The Eagles announced today that they've released CB Jack Ikegwuonu(for the 2nd time this year) and signed CB Geoffrey Pope off the Bengals practice squad. From PE.com

Pope (6-0, 186) started the 2009 season on the Cincinnati Bengals active roster and appeared in four games, playing mostly on special teams. He was waived on October 8, but was signed to their practice squad the next day and has been there for the balance of the year.

Pope came into the league as a UDFA signed by the Dolphins in 2007. He spent time with the Giants, where he actually got a superbowl ring and played in the 07-08 playoffs. I suppose the thought is that having played under Steve Spagnuolo in New York, he'd at least have a working knowledge of the system here.

lol yeah.

"The punt to DeSean Jackson. The punt. Short, Jackson takes it at the 32. Looks for running room, reverses the field. He's at the 40. 50, 45, 40, 35, 30, He's gonna go!

"McNabb in the shotgun again. McNabb takes the snap, fakes, he's back, he's looking, he is going deep for DeSean Jackson, who races, has it! TOUCHDOWN!!! DeSean Jackson!!

I’m thinking this is the last we’ve seen of Jack. Poor JIBTA will have to change his name.

by Bob_Q on Nov 24, 2009 4:50 PM EST reply actions

JWBTA?

jack was better than asante?

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

Looks like all the good JIBTA jokes are taken

but if Jack Ike couldn’t break the lineup now, it wasn’t happenin’

good point

we’re in basic CB desperation mode…if you have any talent, you’re not getting cut

Wow it must really suck to be JIBTA right now……

by Cowboy KILLER on Nov 24, 2009 4:52 PM EST reply actions

I liked the Iguana when the Eagles drafted him. I didn’t go out on the limb JIBTA did, but I loved the pick. Then again, I thought Matt Ware was a fantastic pick. I am definitely not Mel Kiper.

by Cormican on Nov 24, 2009 4:54 PM EST reply actions

I liked Matt Ware too

I think part of it is we get excited for all picks in the top 3 rounds and think they must be good if they were drafted that high. But for every Celek/Cole we nail in the 5th, we whiff on a 2nd or 3rd. It happens to 100% of the teams in the NFL.

That said, Ware is still in the NFL. (He’s played in 8 games this year with the Cardinals). So is LaJuan Ramsey (Rams), Ryan Moats (Texans), Studebaker (Chiefs) and a handful of other Eagles draft picks/castoffs (Baskett, Amendola, I’m sure others I can’t think of at the moment) that weren’t good enough for our team at a particular time but are good enough for the NFL.

I REALLY was high on Studebaker

We could probably use Matt at this point.

by Cormican on Nov 24, 2009 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

Just wanted to thank you for Studebaker

I’m intrigued by “Iguana” now, not that the Chiefs will grab him. We are currently speculating about our CB Leggett and believe he will most likely go to IR. What do you guys think about Ikegwonu?

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

He can't play here

if he can’t get a job on our ailing roster, he’s not a good fit here. He may somewhere else though…and we could really use Studebaker back

He’s a needed LB and a D3 guy!

but haven’t followed him since he left us…how’s he been doing for you guys?

If he’s not good enough for the Giants mediocre secondary, I’m hoping hes improved since then!

he’s going to stay off the thread until the jokes get old, and then he’ll start yapping about something else as if this never happened

dimitri patterson

i thought he played pretty damn good the other night. he showed tackling ability. he was able to cover the slant. he showed good poise. we definitely need to keep him around.

The Iguana will be hard to spot when he blends himself into his free agency surroundings, also called obscurity.
