6-4 - Where we go from here

No doubt, 6-4 is not where I'd like us to be.  Looking back, I think I would be satisfied with no worse than 7-3, and 8-2 is quite reasonable.  However, we are where we are, and being an optimistic person I would rather look ahead than behind.

Star-divide

US:  Here's a look at our DVOA stats right now

Currently, we are on the bubble for a playoff bid, and almost certainly out of the first week bye picture.  Our offense is good (#12 in DVOA), and our defense great (#2).  Special teams is also superior (#4).  Basically, DVOA thinks the Pats are far and away the best team in the NFL, and after a drop off ranks INDY, NO, MINN and us fairly closely together.  I'll buy that, with the reservation that we are the only team in that group with a loss to the likes of OAK!  I.E., DVOA may be full of crap.

Coming up:

Home Washington - Washington is terrible (#22 DVOA) and can be considered a must win.  That is, if we are not good enough to beat Washington, we are probably not the team I think we are and therefore will likely not make the playoffs this year.  Win.

@ Atlanta: A good but not great team, Atlanta may give us some problems because they are better on offense than defense.  Our offense is such that when things are clicking, no one can stop us.  When things are not, we couldn't score on a drunk cheerleader after homecoming.  If we have an off game, I could see us losing this one, but still it's a game we can, and should, win.  This may end up being critical, as the loser of this game will likely be on the outside looking in of a wild card.

@Giants: Boy, this one scares me.  The Gents will have major revenge on their minds, and I can see us dropping this one easily.  Loss :(

Home San Fran:  They don't have enough offense to beat us, unless we help them out with a TO or two.  Chalk it up as a win.

Home Denver: Will Dawk still be able to play?  I hope so, although I don't see this team beating us in late December at home.  Win

@Dallas: I don't like to think of myself as someone unduly influenced be a small sample size, but given that this game will likely determine the NFC East winners, how in the world can anyone pick Dallas in January in a critical game?  Win!

Final 6 games prediction: 5-1

Overall 11-5, NFC East champions, no first round bye.

We need to build consistency

and play disciplined football. FOR ONCE, it would be nice to start getting healthy on defense too.

I said 10

I don’t know why but I feel like we will lose both the Giants and San Fran games, the fanbase will give up on the team and we will win out and face Green Bay in the first round and stomp them out.

We will then go on to beat the Vikings because favre’s arm will have already exploded but lose in the NFC Championship game to the Saints who win the Super Bowl by beating the Pats in a blow out.

Just what I’m feeling at the moment

Pretty detailed

look into the crystal ball. Mine’s more vague, like, uh, 10-6 and a first-round road game.

The intrigue is really going to be for the division title, I think. Would not be surprised if we, NYG and DAL all made the playoffs tho

We had enough trouble with SF last time

I’m afraid we’ll go 0-for-the-Bay-Area in this year’s version of last year’s 10-3 loss to Washington.

And continuing with our tradition of providing previously unaccomplished players with career games (e.g., JaMarcus Russell, Fred Davis, Devin Thomas, Khalil Bell), Crabtree will go for 150 and 2 TDs.

Yeah, Asante, I’m looking at you pretend to tackle him.

by DLawrence on Nov 24, 2009 4:07 PM EST reply actions

Yeah that game scares me too

They are actually built quite a bit the Chargers. Big, explosive running back, athletic, freak tight end, physical wideout. Alex Smith is no Phillip Rivers, but he hasn’t been bad this year either.

Jamarcus Russell did not have a career game though. His two picks and constant incompletions were what kept the game close.

i coulda sworn we beat SF last time we played

As a die-hard fan, I say 12 wins. But as a realistic fan, I still think we can win the division, but teams like Oakland will have to help us. I say no worse than 10-6, and we’ll make the playoffs.

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

by McNabb2Maclin4Philly on Nov 24, 2009 5:03 PM EST reply actions

10 wins

The bottom line is we are good enough to win every game left on the schedule, go 6-0 and end up 12-4. The problem is, we’re not consistent enough to do that. I see us losing 2 of the final 6 and making the playoffs. Don’t ask me which 2 though. As much as every game is a winnable game… they’re also “loseable.”

"The last time the Eagles won by scoring in the final two minutes of regulation was a 23-20 win over Oakland in 2005."

Where we go from here?

Super Bowl. End of story.

(kidding. kind of. Love the DVOA/Football Outsiders stuff btw)

I think we'll lose 2 more games

and I can’t tell you who I think it will be.

My gut level says we’ll lose to Atlanta and New York…but in all honesty…we could win or lose any of these.

But dear GOD, there is one game we CANNOT LOSE, and that is to the Mother F*ing Cowboys; I would rather choke on my dog’s vomit than hear their fans for the next freaking decade if they sweep us.

10-6

^Seems about reasonable. I think we lose to the Giants, possibly to the Falcons, and lose to the Cowboys.

by XXXIX on Nov 24, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions

I really like us in that second Cowboys game

And it might not mean anything to them if they’ve clinched but we haven’t.

It’d be cool if it was winner in, loser out like last year, because I’m really confident about seeing them a second time.

But, as is the way with the Eagles, they could win or lose any time they play

before the season started

I had us and the Cowboys meeting in that game, both at 9-6; winner moves on

as is the case with seemingly every Eagles season, there is no telling how good or bad this team is at this point in the season. Past experiences would tell us that they’re likely to turn it up over the last month of the season and finish 10-6/11-5. But I could just as easily see them finishing 8-8.

by njh3293 on Nov 24, 2009 9:47 PM EST reply actions

past experience tells me we'll turn it up and the Cowboys will fall down

I see the Cowboys losing to the Giants, Saints, Redskins, and us…beating Oakland and San Diego

I called 11-5 at the start of the season...

and basically got every game bass akwards so far.. but I will stick with my initial feeling on this one. I think we drop one to NY in NY but it doesnt end up hurting us as we finish 11-5 and win the division.

Nostradamus.

We go 10-6, lose in the first round of the playoffs, Reid gets fired during halftime of that game. He soils his magic underwear. Big press conference on monday announcing Bil Cowher as the new head coach. Next year? 14-2 and Super Bowl champs.

you know banner

i agree with some of the stuff you say, but your argument on reid and a want for cowher is really hypocritical. How long did it take cowher to win the big one? How long has reid been head coach?

It's Nostra-dumbass

That is if you are reffering to yourself. No way the Eagles lose in the first round of the playoffs. Cry baby Cowher would get booed out of Lincoln Financial in a heartbeat.

I think that we're going to win out!! Wait! Hear me out ;)

I think that if the recent trend of superbowl champs has taught us anything it’s that you’d rather be one of the teams that had struggled earlier but coalesced and got “hot” at the end of the season, than one of the dominant favorites going in to the play-offs. IMHO This eagles team is starting to gain the vibe that the Giants had during their superbowl run. There’s no one on our schedule that we can’t beat. If the O get’s consistent as the D gets healthier we’ll be dangerous, but if we continue get better at using McCoy, Weaver, and Vick in the run game, we’ll be deadly.

by w-w-JJ-d on Nov 25, 2009 4:01 PM EST reply actions

i agree in your statement

but the problem is our d isnt getting hot. there getting hurt. still playing good but just to hurt
