#5 = Class Act

I just watched Donny McNabb talking to Cutler after the game and I have to say that the man is a class act. I'm proud of him and I feel honored that he's stuck with this city through the boos as well as the cheers. He could have had a better game, but he could have had a worse game, too. Winning and losing aside, our QB is a class act.

Happy Birthday D.McN.

He's the man

He’s been through a lot of controversy, I wudnt be surprised if he keeps in touch with a lot of young qbs

That 44-6 eagles cowboys game on Dec. 29/2008 was the best game i've ever seen

Hey...I said that first in the other thread...copycat...

But it is true. He puts up with a lot of pressure and a lot of trash from a lot of people and still looks to mentor others. If anything, this will be why his successor will be good as well, gaining all those tips from McNabb.

22-34 for 250is yards 2tds and an interception on a badly run route

i say that was a good day

"It's unfortunate that happened. That's no excuse. Absolutely no excuse."

Say what you will about his on-field performances

but the man is all class off the field. Always looking out for the younger QBs and those in trouble.

Donovan McNabb

it’s like this, Donovan mcnabb as good as he is, always seems to do the right things when it counts, sometimes bad games, sometimes great games, exciting comebacks, the thing is, he delivers in the clutch and hes mr amazing. Great win and giving advice is also very good by him, role model.

....Tim Duncan for the three...YES! - Marv Albert.

by TheFundamental on Nov 23, 2009 12:51 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

He is definitely a good role model. But I would say that he is past his comeback days (which were only because he was able to run the ball too), and he may be clutch, but not when it counts (playoffs)

donovan's always been classy

sensative? sure. but classy none the less. love him.

by Q27 on Nov 23, 2009 1:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

well we don't know exactly what he said

he could have been like:
DM: “i’m going to kill your family in their sleep”
JC: “uh huh”
DM: “with a bow knife”
JC: “oh, ok”
DM: “Then i will sautee their flesh in a pan with oil and garlic but it’s important to cut the garlic extremely thin so it liquifies”
JC: “really? it liquifies? ok”

Eagles.

by #1EaglesFan on Nov 23, 2009 2:21 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

nahhh, it was probably more like...

DM: Dude, I like how you step forward as the ends are coming in. You remind me of ME. Last time I got hit by Babin the practice I forgot my own name. All I could say for a half an hour was. ‘My name is Elmer Fudd – millionaire, I own a mansion and a yacht’.

JC: I think Trent Cole bit my leg on that sack.

DM: Don’t worry about your own fans booing you like that, I get that all the time.

JC: What fans? Aren’t we in Philly?

DM: Nope, those were YOUR fans. Like I said, it happens to me a lot. And kid, don’t forget to throw the ball into the ground more, they can’t intercept them that way.

JC: When do I get to see that mansion and your yacht?

DM: What a maroon!

Haha. I agree….Cutler is a “deep red.”

i love when people spell things wrong when slamming someones “intelijence.”

Hmmm, I'm not the best speller in the world...

…but I was going for a reference to Bugs Bunny, as obscure as it might be. Buggs (my hero) was always called Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam ‘maroons’. I’ve always like the term. Doesn’t seem quite so mean when it’s coming from a rabbit.

I’m no genius – I’ve tested out at something called ‘high superior’, yet my spelling is often atrocious. Next time, I’ll put maroon in quotes. Apologies for the obscure reference.

Donovan has some great leadership qualities that can't be taught

He avoids drama, and doesn’t respond to the media emotionally! That’s very important for a team; and something that will be sorely missed if our next QB doesn’t follow suit.

He also has been questionable. His whole “black QB’s face more pressure than their white counterparts” statement was stupid; with that said, he does have personal history with Limbaugh on that issue, so I really can’t fault him completely for it.

bryant gumbel asked him the question...he answered it...

for all those folks saying donovan does nothing more than tow the company line – take that! haha, but he’s right. black qb’s do it have it harder. look at the history. to say it’s ‘questionable’ or ‘stupid’ for donovan to say that, is in itself, ‘stupid.’

i guess race is too difficult of a subject to think about when you just want to sit down and watch football games…haha

he’s right. black qb’s do it have it harder

really?

If this is your opinion defend it intellectually

i hate to even get into this...
i guess race is too difficult of a subject to think about when you just want to sit down and watch football games

Give it a rest. Race isn’t even a difficult issue. It was difficult for men like Malcom X and my Christian brother Dr. King who fought for suffrage, and against the injustices of segregation…race was a difficult issue then, and they carried the banner of equality and justice.

You’re the only one trying to make McNabb a race issue…the rest of us are over it, and looking at him as a football player only.

Agreed.

Put the Race Card Aside…It’s really quite asinine at this point in history.

If people didn’t constant try and play the race card, it might not be a relevant issue, which it isn’t. The only reason it even partially is, is because people constantly bring up race when it has ZERO bearing….Rush Limbaugh…cough* cough*…

Truth

I could care less what color my QB is and the rest of the team for that matter. I wouldn’t care if Donovan McNabb was really two short Chinese dudes.

umm I dont think about race when watching football, infact I hardly think about it at all

IDK who your talking about..

but I hate when people pull the “black people have it harder” shit… White, black, mexican, purple or (fill in random color) people all have to work hard to get to the NFL, some people are born with natural talent while others work for it…

I think that Black QB’s “have it harder” because most of them (unlike McNabb) use that as a crutch not to work hard and therefore have an excuse to justify why they didnt live up to there potential.

And Joe D...

“He calls every white guy on here racist if they don’t like McNabb…”

I’d love to see you pull those posts up…though you can’t because they don’t exist…

by damonmoore43 on Nov 23, 2009 7:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Look, I dont want any racism on this site.

thats why I left yardbarker and a bunch of other sites, all they did was bitch about people liking Dmac just because he is black and people only supporting so and so because he’s white..

Its all fucking stupid. Nobody really cares that much about he color of the skin, they care about wins, if a black QB produces a win and the white QB doesnt I go with the black QB and vise versa, it doesnt matter, if they win they play…

People dont hate on mcnabb because he’s black, they rag on him because he’s inconsistant at times. Hes really really good or terrible, theres rarely an in between…

No more fights over race/color/whatever you wanna call it..

I'm waiting for the post Joe...still waiting...

But it’s easy to go ‘he called me a racist route,’ – that ensure you don’t ‘actually’ have to engage in discussion…

Nice!

Cutler texted about McNabb later...

"He’s a great dude," Cutler wrote later via text. "He has handled himself well through all the b.s."

Meh

With all the bitching he does I wouldn’t exactly call him a class act. Plus, he acts like a rock star when he’s out and about down town. Nothing special about him at all, it’s easy to do and say the right things when the camera is rolling.

But no one would have said he wasn't classy if he had said nothing but "wassup" to Cutler.

He was under no perceived obligation to say anything to Cutler, so I would say that is a classy move.

by NOLACuse on Nov 23, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He said a couple extra words

It’s not like he went way out of his way. Sure, it’s a classy move, but, there’s absolutely nothing significant about it at all.. It’s being a nice guy.

I guess it's all about interpritation of what really happened on the field,

after the game.

What I saw an established star helping out a struggling competitor; talking to him longer than I’ve ever seen two QB’s talk after a game, showing compassion and professionalism, and really making a concerted effort to help him out. I haven’t seen that before. I think it was a cut above.

I guess you saw it differently, Joe.

by IggleGreen on Nov 23, 2009 3:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Don’t bother.

Andy Reid is 43-5 when running the ball at least 30 times in a game( Ray Diddy on Eagles Post Game Live after Bears Victory)

So he did a nice gesture

What makes that so spectacular?

I saw McNabb down town once

A few fans just said Hi and a couple otheres wanted a quick picture. He walked right on by with no acknowledgment.

He walked right past the people he would be nowhere without. I understand why he did it but I certainly ain’t worshiping the ground he walks on if a player gives some words of encouragement after a game…

Well if I were McNabb id walk by those people

sometimes. He prolly just had something to do, he’s a human you know…

If I were in the NFL I wouldnt want to stop every time some fan says “hi” or asks for a quick picture, now I would on occasion and I’d certainly wave at least but no way I’d stop EVERY TIME…

and No im not worshiping the ground he walks on, but it was a classy move to talk to cutler.

You can criticize Mcnabbs game, but you cant criticize him as a person. he is had to go through so much in his career, and his always handled it with class. Have a great birthday donovan!

Happy Birthday Don, thanks for all the effort. Now just keep from chocking again and we’ll be fine.

Okay so maybe it's time to move on. Hopefully it'll be moving on to winning a Championship!

Donovan is a good man with a kind heart.

Sure he whines from time to time about stuff. But Drew Rosenhaus isn’t his agent. He doesn’t get in trouble off the field. He doesn’t have a flaccid arm that can’t throw the deep out. People who want Vick (because he is a “gangster” who does “real ass shit”—and not only acts like a rock star when he’s about town, but acts like Hannibal Lecter in the confines of his scary Virginia basement…) or Kolb (because he has a “safer look” and is more representative of “Red State” values) instead of Donovan make me giggle uncontrollably. Keep up the humor, guys. When our first year with someone other than Donovan under center has us 4-12 or 5-11, will you still laugh?
