Injuries Updated: Gocong has pair of leg issues; Westbrook improving
Following the Eagles’ sweet blowout victory over the formerly division-leading Giants, head coach Andy Reid updated the team’s injuries and barring a few players that continue to work on surgical recoveries and extensive injuries, there appears to be primarily improvement on the club, health-wise.
Starting RB Brian Westbrook, who missed the Giants matchup with a concussion and has also been tending to a twisted ankle that has bothered him since early in the season, is expected to be in full participation with the team in practice by Wednesday, and has already been taken through minor exercises. He still has some slight aches in different regions of his head and upper neck, but is supposedly making great strides toward returning to action in Week 9 versus the Dallas Cowboys.
A few of the other players that were held out of Sunday’s game remain in fierce rehabilitation to make their way back onto the field. Such Eagles include WR Kevin Curtis and DE Victor Abiamiri; Curtis has missed the last five games while dealing with a knee sprain and recovering from surgery he underwent on it, while Abiamiri has been sidelined for two games with a similar sprain in his knee. Both players aren’t expected to be available for this week’s showdown with the Cowboys, but because of Curtis’ medical procedures, it is likely Abiamiri will be the first of the two back in the lineup.
There were a few nicks and bruises sustained in this past week’s game, but only one significant injury came out of it in the form of OLB Chris Gocong’s several leg issues. The starter (pictured)was examined and determined to have a quad muscle contusion as well as a hamstring strain. Of course, two injuries in the same leg for a leading Linebacker isn’t ever promising, but Gocong hasn’t been ruled out of Week 9, and is currently classified as “day-to-day” for practice.

But a Division game isn’t always a good time to “see what we have”
That’s what pre-season is for now.
This game is against our Division Rival for the Division lead.
