Is Jason Peters as Bad as He Looks?
When the Birds first picked up Peters, I was excited at the potential, mostly because our coach seemed so pumped about the pickup. However, I, like so many of us, had some nagging worries based on his stats and overall play last year.
This year, it seems like there is a play or two every game in which he is either lost, slow, or just completely off. Perhaps I am being too harsh, but when we pay a guy that much money and hedge our bets on him, I expect more.
The excuse that keeps getting thrown out there by announcers is the fact that he is "new to the team." Well, folks, we are seven games in! At what point does new where off? Is he just a slow learner, or a bust?
What do y'all think?

He reminds me of a young Flozell Adams
He has everything that it takes to be the top player in his position, but as Bill Parcells said he’s a Saint Bernard and he needed a baseball bat to help him get his points across.
They seem to lose their focus at the worse posible times, Flo wasn’t capable to pass that hurdle, Peters hasn’t yet.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
I can think of 2 plays...
The Osi sack/fumble this week, and the Andre Carter sack/fumble last week. But that’s pretty much it. Otherwise he’s been great.
It’s not easy being an LT in the NFL when…
- You’re new to a team and have to learn a new style of pass blocking, a new offense, and new teammates.
- The starting LG has been out all season, and you’re trying to get on the same page with a backup while picking up some of their slack.
- You’re one of only 2 starting OL that has remained healthy, and have therefore had virtually no opportunity to develop any kind of legitimate continuity.
- You get no help whatsoever… NONE… because the RB’s and TE’s are almost solely helping on the right side of the line.
- Your responsibilities so far have included Julius Peppers, Will Smith, Richard Seymour, Andre Carter, and Osi Umenyiora.
- Your team passes 65% of the time, and the defense knows it.
So let’s stop with any Peters bashing simply because a great player (Osi Umenyiora) got the best of Peters yesterday on one play.

Think of it like this
When we signed Asante last year, we expected the perfect corner who would never allow anything in the secondary. We finished with a modest pass defense with Asante having only 4 ints (his lowest total since 2005). This year (after spending some time in the scheme) he is 3rd in league in INTs (1st among CBs) and we are currently second in the league in team INTs.
100% Agreed
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
Peters will be fine
He even had a few plays yesterday where he got beaten and still managed to get a block around. He’s that athletic.
Once he learns the intricacies of the scheme, he will be better then fine. He’ll be outstanding.
not saying its all peters but when you consider how well we ran the ball/ protected Donovan this week vs what happened when we played without him at Oakland you have to consider that his presence is quite important to the team and had something to do with the difference. he might have gotten beat by osi/tuck a few obvious times this week but you cant argue that they arnt two of the best in the league. as he gets better in the scheme and we get to have him play with the same o-line for a few weeks in a row (dont forget this was only his second game with herremans next to him) he will hopefully get better and better.
wow
what a stupid post .. peters is an allpro tackle .. his main stength is run blocking .. hes an average pass blocker .. but if u run behind him hes one of the best in football ..learn before u start bashing a stud tackle
An inconsistent coach is far worse than an inconsistent quarterback.(Route 36)

chill...
The guy gave up ONE sack to one of the best pass rushers in the league. You don’t think Tre gave up some sacks ? And Peters is a beast in the run game…not to mention the one sack he gave up he went and recovered the Mcnabb fumble. A heads up play. each week I think Peters gets better…I am happy with him
Offensive tackles are usually judged unfairly in my opinion. An offense will usually average about 60 (more or less) snaps per game. The guy can be great on 59 of those plays but on the one play when he surrenders a sack, people are inclined to say he didn’t play well. People need to remember that the defensive end on the other side of the ball gets paid to play too. Even the very best tackles don’t win every battle, every play.
He's good.
He needs adjusting to a new team.
On a brighter note, his run-blocking is magnificent
RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.
On that hold he was called for...
…he saved McNabb’s ass from a brutal sacking and probably kept the Giants D from turning the momentum early in the game. I think it was in the first quarter. It was a ‘good’ penalty. Well thought out – even if he was getting beat at the time. I think the guy is smart and will settle into being stalwart.
It wasn't even that blatant of a hold
And he was hardly beaten on that play. I really do feel that if he had released his hands a split second earlier, it would not have been a hold.

Yes, but he did hold the guy and protected his QB in the process.
The guy had a straight shot to McNabb – who is still technically injured. It was a righteous hold.
Kind of reminds me of the end of every Scooby Doo episode: “It was a good plan, and I woulda gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for that meddling ref kids…”
