Would everone please relax?

Last year, we tied the bengals, lost to the bears, lost a must win to the skins (lost to them twice actually),  and benched mcnabb in a horrendous outing with the Ravens and we wound up being one defensive stop away from the Super Bowl.

Now I understand completely everything that had to fall correctly for the playoffs to be a reality last year, but my point is, you just can't throw the towel in on this team this early in the season. We do this every year... it's like we forget that one, two, three, maybe even four bad games do not ruin a season. We're one game out of first in the East, and we are guaranteed another shot at Dallas in DeKyrptonember (There's a new buzz word for you)

On top of that, two of our losses have been to out of conference opponents.

The Eagles will not only make the playoffs, but will win the division

People have been saying 'we never played THIS badly last year'

To them I retort, ‘you clearly did not watch last year’s team.’

We’re going to be fine. Every loss with McNabb under center has been close. We get our red zone woes corrected, and we will be more then fine.

yeah… i’d DEFINITLY take this years problems over last years issues.

Dallas is in BIG trouble...

It was actually extremely remarkable that their OL has stayed in tact for the entire season thus far, seeing as every single one of their starters will be 31 years old by the end of the season. Well, not anymore. RT Marc Colombo broke his leg and will be out for about 6 weeks, and the Cowboys themselves aren’t really sure what they want to do. They have absolutely NO depth whatsoever… none. Here are their options…

- They can start former 4th round pick Doug Free at RT, who played in one game in 2007, none in 2008.
- They can start former 7th round pick Pat McQuistan at RT. This is McQuistan below… seriously…

- They can slide Leonard Davis out to RT and have either Cory Proctor or Montrae Holland play RG, both of whom played horribly last season.

I’ll preface what I’m about to say that I’m not certainly not rooting for any kind of injury, but…

If they sustain any kind of injury to any single one of their remaining 4 OL starters at all the rest of the way, expect another really ugly December for Dallas.

i love it

it’s hard to stay positive after two straight losses, but compared to last year we’re in great shape. dallas’ dreaded december is quickly approaching and that’s when we’ll rise to the top.

Last year taught me a lesson that is known, but often overlooked

you’re REALLY never out of it until the MATH says you’re out!

I think we’re actually better this year than last; McNabb’s been inconsistent as usual, but he hasn’t turned the ball over. In his horrendous stretch last year, he had 7 turnovers (btw INTs and fumbles) in only 3 games. We lost 2 in a row, but didn’t lose any ground in the division with our second loss.

Of course we’re still in the mix. Of course we can still win the division. We’d all like to see more consistency, so we can feel more confident…but I’m with you 700…this could easily be ours

wats up J.............

people seem 2 forget just how young this team really is. I dont know if this years team can overcome being put in really deep holes. Last years squad was able to pull together and fight back because of all the strong vets like Runyan, Dawkins, Tra Thomas. I know its still early but if we lose 2 da bears then not only will that be a joke but so will our playoff hopes. That being said with all our penalties and injuries we still could have won the SD game with better red zone play calling and execution, its on everybody….coaches and players.

by goldenbird09 on Nov 18, 2009 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

On one hand, I agree 700, the division’s totbut on the other, the injury/depth situation seems much more dire this year.

I think McNabb is going to have to put the team on his back and play great the whole way down the stretch now, and the coaching staff is going to have to make adjustments if he has one of his “off” days.

Nothing will be easy the rest of the way, but hopefully the Bears and Redskins can be the beginning of a winning streak.

100 percent agreed

i’m been saying this every week. sure we have problems, injuries, etc. but we are still in the thick of the race. from here on out facing the niners, falcons, giants, and cowboys we control our destiny. we could win the rest of the games or we could lose every single one. no on knows whats gonna happen. we all just have to stop listening to espn and realize that this is when we excel. we also have to realize that if this team starts to click and roll on all cylinders (which is what usually happens around now) this team is dangerous. And lack of heart? i wouldn’t say that. if you look at all the rookies and new players i’m sure you can’t justify a lack of heart. if i’m a rookie playing on a new team that is a contender i’m gonna play with heart.

just enjoy the ride people :)

heres the thing…we seem to have these problems every October-November…losing to bad teams…inconsistency on offense…games lost on questionable (stupid) coaching moves…etc. then we correct them, make the playoffs, only to fall short. and I think thats whats got people up in arms.

Its not that I thnk the Eagles are doomed, it just that it seems theyre following the same script theyve followed for the last decade. for those of you that say nothing matters as long as we make the playoffs…i whole heartedly disagree. a dominant regular season is what gives you the swagger you need in the playoffs. Not to mention homefield advantage (does anyone think arizona would have beat us at the linc last january?). Im not throwing in the towel by any means, but these last couple games have left me with an overwhelming feeling of “here we go again”.

It is all down to injuries

Can guys get healthy or does this situation get worse? I still strongly believe this team is better than the team that finished a deep run in the playoffs last year. Can we stop losing guys and start to get some back? If so, I am confident this team goes 6-1 or 5-2, at worst, the rest of the way. We can beat the Bears and Redskins even with our current personnel. Then we can start to get back guys like Sheldon, Jordan, Peters, and Hanson. Suddenly we could be on a roll and getting better. I am still optimistic this team gets going starting this week.

There were really two seperate events...

Acutally three.

Several people jumped ship after the bengals loss tie
Several more people jumped after the McNabb benching

And then like 70% jumped after the Redskins loss.

Then Whodie and I and few others tinted the windows and welded the doors shut by halftime of the dallas game. We did however let a few people climb back in through the roof vent.

Who was driving that bus? I cant remember who it was, mighta been Whodie, but i do remember someone saying something like, Jump if you want, but dont come back when we make the playoffs

I have zero patience for people like that … If our team was 0-15 I would still be ready to watch them play on the final Sunday of the NFL season and I would talk shit and route them on like a maniac just as I would if they were 15-0.

It is fucking painful to watch such a talented roster under perform week after week but at least I have something to look forward to on Sundays. Things could be much much worse.

I agree somewhat with this...I still think 10-6...

…but I really want to know what everyone’s threshold is with Reid AND McNabb. You all know that I love Donovan and hate the fatman. It should also be evident at this point that I neither respect Kolb’s game nor think him our future starter. All that being said, what does it take for us to consider this season “successful?” And I am not willing to take injuries, bad breaks, luck, the influence of the 9 Muses, the duplicity of Iago, the pernicious presence of the ghost of Hitler or ANYTHING else as an excuse.

Also, while I like Donovan, I’m kind of sick of the controversy/divisiveness that always surrounds him.

i agree completely

without a clear plan of what’s going to change, you’re leaving yourself open to change for the worse (unless you’re the Lions of last year, or Browns of this year) if you’re in a position of relative success. There’s plenty of room for us to go down!

I agree wholeheartedly

The only issue that concerns me is the injuries on Def. Usally our D steps up and on O we balance the playcalling then all areas including ST step up and help spark the turn around, but with the injuries on D idk.

nothing to relax about

I’m so tired of these comparison’s with last year’s season which if we hadn’t gone to the playoffs it would’ve been a terrible season. The Eagles got very, very, lucky the Raiders pulled an upset on Tampa Bay, because if they hadn’t you’d probably be sitting here pissed that the Eagles blew their opportunity when they had control of their playoff chances the first time against Washington one week earlier. Just because we squeaked by last season doesn’t draw any comparisons to this season, if we’re in the same position we were in last year we should definitely have some questions about the Eagles chances.

The Eagles at this time have a laundry list of injuries, a diluted secondary, a makeshift linebacker corps, no bye week ahead of them, a stretch of road games coming up, a rematch with the NFC East. Not much to relax about when it sounds like that does it…?

The fact that we had two shots to be the division leader 2 weeks ago against Dallas, and a chance to tie the division leader a week ago against the Chargers, doesn’t speak volumes about the Eagles ability to come through when it counts. Now with 2 losses we just put New York back into the race for the division where we’re both tied for second, which leaves almost no room for error for any team in the division. Being concerned is all part of the roller coaster of the season, I don’t abandon my support for the Eagles because they’re losing, but I certainly get anxious when they aren’t winning the big games.

but they’ve shown flashes, so I’ll be optimistic and believe until they let me down

It's hard to believe

that so many fans are still satisfied with just making the playoffs especially since no one is realistically talking about winning the Super Bowl. Is that what you want? To make the playoffs again just to have your hopes destroyed by much better teams? I have been an Eagles fan for thirty years and I’m sure many fans here are similar. We need a Super Bowl victory. Compare losing to the raiders and for that matter a crappy dallas team or a mediocre Chargers to the absolute clinic Peyton Manning had against the Patriots. He was playing arguably one of the best teams in the league and he came from two touchdowns behind to win with 4 minutes left. That is the standard by which you should compare the Eagles if you want to seriously contend otherwise you’re just going to frustrate yourselves…again. The playoffs are just not enough. Start by scoring one lousy touchdown when given three red zone attempts in the first half.

by strikeeagle on Nov 19, 2009 11:40 AM EST reply actions

The Superbowl is always the goal

but we’re just looking one step at a time. Can’t get to the SB if you don’t get to the playoffs. To be honest, I’m just not that excited about this Eagles team because they haven’t done anything to give me confidence that they can win when it counts. I still believe it’s possible, and I’m still going to remain optimistic, but I can’t say that I’m confident and excited.

In ‘04, I would go into game EXPECTING to blow teams out! I was excited b/c I was confident…I don’t have that confidence this year…it doesn’t mean I’m giving up, I just carry anxiety into each game instead of excitement.
