Comcast NFL Red Zone stat of the week - Eagles Running Game

The Eagles "stat of the week" is brought to you by Comcast and the new NFL Red Zone channel

This week's stat comes from ESPN radio Eagles beat reporter Brian Seltzer

The Eagles 29 rushing yards on Sunday is the fewest since defeating...guess who...the Chargers on 10/23/05. They managed just 24 rushing yards that day.

Does that even necessitate commentary? That's just ugly.

Star-divide

Comcast is carrying the new NFL Red Zone channel. NFL Red Zone lets you follow all the red zone action on NFL Sunday as it happens. When a team gets inside the twenty, the network cuts to that game. It's a fantasy player's dream... Plus, I'm sure all the Eagles' rivals took great pleasure in watching our Red Zone futility on Red Zone last week. Sad face.

They don't ever break for commercials and the action literally never stops. They don't just limit it to red zone trips either... I was watching last weekend and they would show any game live if no team happened to be in the red zone. This is probably the best thing ever invented for an NFL fan that's looking for something to flip to when the Eagles game goes to commercials...

agreed

but when you are trading TD’s for FG’s it becomes a little hard to run the ball

wonder why they are settling for FGs?

..because they can’t sustain drives due to the grotesque imbalance of playcalling. This is also painfully apparent in the Red Zone where Andy’s uninspired and token brand of run game is squashed, thus ushering in the predictable passing formations.

Type of runs

felt like when they were running it was always out of shotgun and was just an inside hand off. I wish they would line up under center and run some stretch and other run plays to set up some believable play action.

Does the O line have any heart?

Seriously, Shawn Andrews, Stacy Andrews, MJD? All those guys are tin men.

There’s got to be some ‘want to’ in their blocking.

by DLawrence on Nov 17, 2009 6:00 PM EST reply actions

Well… Shawn Andrews was dominant when he actually played. Very fierce competitor.

by JasonB on Nov 17, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

yeah

I was watching a replay of an the Eagles Dallas game from last year that Shawn played in he was dominant on every play … that I saw any way

Let's get it Birds.

Can't see how Andy gets away with it..

Honestly, how does the entire media corps give this guy any room any more? How does he get away with throwing 55 times in a game where they run for 29 paltry yards? Their token attempts at run plays are a joke…always en route to yet another loss that could have been averted.

by bigmyc on Nov 17, 2009 6:28 PM EST reply actions

wait...what?

He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with throwing as much as he does….but when he does run it, it always results in a loss of yardage that could have been averted if we passed it instead? Huh? what do you want him to do? Invent a third sort of offensive play that involves neither the run or the pass?

Need a balence

We have a great passing game but how many championship teams have you seen that are only one dementinal? None. We need to run more .

by kendawg28m on Nov 17, 2009 8:30 PM EST reply actions

None? Here's 4 in the last decade.

’07 Giants= 4th in run; 21st in pass

’06 Colts = 2nd in pass; 18th in run

’05 Steelers = 5th in run; 25th in pass

’03 Patriots = 9th in pass; 27th in run

’00 Ravens = 5th in run; 22nd in pass

’09 Eagles = 9th in pass; 23rd in run

I thought this O line was an upgrade to last year. I was so pumped @ the beginning. We had a new fullback and o line, but the same sad results. I put this 100% on coaching.

by Bugzy on Nov 18, 2009 7:27 AM EST reply actions

This isn’t nearly the same line we started the year with.

by Cormican on Nov 18, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

is there a difference to watching Eagles and Florida Gators play?? I mean….they use shotgun all day like us.

by Bugzy on Nov 18, 2009 7:28 AM EST reply actions

Even For Andy

This is terrible its hard to ask dmac to b perfect and sustain drives while no1 else on offense the line or RBs are helping. They have to get this issue resolved they need a power running game in goal to go situations

Usually you can not win a game on field goals but it can happen, unfortunately it did not.
