Jones-Drew Pulls a Westbrook
In the waning seconds of the Jaguars' week 10 matchup against the Jets, halfback Maurice Jones-Drew chose to take a knee at the 1-yard line in order to let time expire and preserve a win. I'm thinking maybe he got the idea from Westbrook's kneel-down against the Cowboys back in '07?

haha
that’s exactly what I thought of. I waited for them to mention it but they didn’t
RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.

A friend and I were watching the end of the game at a friend's apartment
And he yelled it out immediately.

Fuck am I going to miss the bastard
I really, really, really hope against all hope the Eagles just sit him for the rest of November and December, and see how he is for the season finale at the Cowboys. But I really feel like his career’s over.

ive said all i can say about bwest in other threads, so ill just stick with the mjd play
and i dont agree with it. i would if your team is winning, but down by 1 you have to take the points you can get when you can get them. how stupid would jack del rio look if there was a fumbled snap on one of the kneel-downs or a botched field goal attempt.
i know the percentage of PATs missed is very low (the FG would have been practically a PAT) but we all know shit happens and from what i can remember, i always hear every week of at least one PAT being missed or blocked
RIP JJ & HK
Congrats NYY, it took you 9 years to buy a championship. I would love to see how that series would have went if Cole remembered how to pitch.

btw
the fact that i had mjd on my fantasy team has nothing to do with my opinion. i had bwest when he did it to dallas and approved of it.

What is probability that they make they sucessfully kneel down 3 times and hit the field goal? 95%? Greater than that probably.
What is the probability that with 2 minutes left, the Jets march down the field and score a game winning TD? If greater than 5%, then the kneel down is absolutely the right move.

50% game tying TD
the Jags were down by 1, so if Mo scores a TD, they could go for 2, and with the 50% success rate, they’d be up by 7 when the Jets got the ball.
still the right move, though, if for no other reason, it eliminates the possibility of injury on those subsequent plays.

I had my Reid 2 point conversion chart open when making my response. Even if you incorporate the 50% tying TD, 50% winning TD, if you came up with more exact probability outcomes on the fumble/missed FG vs the Jets TD, the math would work out in favor of the spike.

i understand your argument and agree ur stats are probably close enough
but when you are losing u need to get points, especially lead changing points, whenever you can get them, however you can get them. i dont care if you have jamarcuss russell or peyton manning against you, you take the TD in that case and go for 2. there are so many things that could go wrong and it only takes one. take the TD, go for 2, take the momentum and put it back on ur D.

That's probably why youre not a coach
They could take one to the house on the return, etc. It is not even debatable that it is the correct play.

no im not a coach
and neither are you
but no matter what, you take the points you can get when ur losing. by that i dont mean u go for a field goal when down by 6 with seconds to go on a 4th and goal, but u get what i mean. i am not saying that if mjd was ligit tackled at the 1 you keep on going for the TD because i wouldnt, i would let the time bleed out and kick the fg, but when you are uncontested going into the endzone, u cross that damn line and take the points

I really am going to miss Westbrook
He’s single handedly carried our offense for multiple years. No matter if McNabb was struggling or we simply had no other weapons — he was the guy. How many times were we down late in the game and we threw a screen to Westbrook for the win? Definitely one of the most dynamic running backs of all time.

Hes the reason why we won the Vikings game last year.

MJD and HC Jack Del Rio
both mentioned he Westbrook play so yes it was the inspiration. By the way it was running back coach Kennedy Pola and HC Jack Del Rio’s idea; hat Maurice doing that knee on the 1. Thanks Brian Westbrook for his original idea-we won the game with that!

Runyan
I remember Westbrook saying after that game that it wasn’t his idea, nor was it the coaching staff’s, but that his RT Jon Runyan told him to do it in the huddle. I miss Jon as much as I’m going to miss Brian.

yeah, runyan said he would tackle westbrook if he didnt take the knee at the 1
and sure enough, if u watch the video, if memory serves me u see big ’ol 69 chasing after westbrook
