Point Proven...
As I've said, our defense is to blame for the past two losses we've suffered at the hands of teams we should have beaten. Sheldon Brown seems way too slow and cannot stay with a lot of the recievers he has been assigned to. Asante Samuel, just horrible, gave up on a touchdown today when he didn't stay with his man. LaDainian ran like crazy on us, sad, being as LaDainian is not the same LT from years ago. Donovan, LIKE I TOLD YOU GUYS, did his job today. Again, not a perfect game, no one has a perfect game. He missed a few throws, but the man threw for 450 yards and well over a 50% completion rate. I just thought I would state my thoughts today. Its more of like a self therapy when we lose. Come on Eagles! Get it together! I'm not ready to give up and never will!
One more thing, What the hell is wrong with Andy Reid? Field Goals cannot match touchdowns. This is the 2nd game in a row! AND we coud not score on the damn goal line and on 3rd and 1 all game long. This is a fix that is now urgent if we hope to win a super bowl.
How do you guys feel about how we're playing lately?

You’re absolutely dumb if you think Sheldon Brown has been anything but absolutely stellar this year.

sheldon's played well
“absolutley stellar” shouldn’t be thrown around so loosely though.

...as i was saying he's played well. okay REALY well
absolutely stellar is a top 3 cb analysis in my opinion.

…
wtf else do you need to see?
There’s two CBs with more INTs than Sheldon (one on our team!) and a few tied with him.
He’s allowed an NFL low 36.8% catch rate when thrown at.
QBs have a 25.5 passer rating against him (lowest of any CB in the league)
He’s 2nd in the NFL in yards allowed by a CB with more than 75% of his teams defensive snaps.
He is SHUT DOWN. Absolutely stellar.
He’s made ONE mistake this year, and that was the Miles Austin touchdown. Two other players screwed up on that play, so he can’t even be completely at fault for that. Yes, it’s his fault Austin made the catch, but he should’ve been tackled by one of the three players. He has got to be one of our most valuable defensive players, and saying he’s been anything BUT a top CB is LUDICROUS.

agreed Sheldon Brown is the best corner on our team and is tops in the league. I think the memory of the Austin play is clouding judgment here.

na its not clouding my judgement
i wouldn’t judge a player on one play. sheldon is definately one of the most underrated players in the league. i wasn’t arguing against his talent. i was simply arguing against the term “absolutely stellar”. no one on our defense has been “absolutely stellar”.
by Q27 on Nov 16, 2009 1:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
you're jumping to conclusions
i never said he wasn’t a top corner. i don’t consider him a top 3 corner though. and maybe that’s because i watch every eagles game and not every game for every other team.
i wasn’t arguing against sheldon’s talent or performance. i was arguing the choice of words. “absolutely stellar” isn’t how i’d describe any one on our defense right now.

Sheldon has been OKAY! His interceptions were great! BUT, my point is….when the game is on the line and the defense has to stop the opposing offense, Sheldon has been terrible! Along with Asante. That’s my point. I met Sheldon, nice guy and all and I respect his play. But he sucks towards the end of a game. Check the history….Burress, Miles Austin, etc.

by PhillyEagle4Life on Nov 15, 2009 10:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well if our OLINE played consistent all the time, McNabb would too!
it would help, but that’s not true. McNabb lays eggs. It’s what he does. He plays great some days also, but if you can’t admit that he has his inexplicable bad day, you really aren’t being objective.
On a related note, why do you try to deflect blame onto the other 52 guys while giving mcnabb a pass? It’s not McNabbs fault…it’s the D. or the O-Line. McNabb is NOT manning, brady or brees. He is a good QB, but he’s not consistent, and some weeks that costs us the game.
by eagleyosh on Nov 15, 2009 10:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
But what seperates McNabb from not being a Manning, Brees, or Brady is because they have an Offensive Line that CONSISTENTLY blocks well for them and allows them the time to make effective plays. They also have coaches that call CONSISTENT plays. Sure McNabb has his bad games, and SO DOES Brady, and Manning, and Brees. No one is perfect. Cut the man some slack. That all Im saying.
by PhillyEagle4Life on Nov 15, 2009 11:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
How long as McNabb been in this league?
In his 10 yrs of playing..Ur actually sayin that McNabb has NEVER had an O-LINE that CONSISTENTLY blocks well. 10 years, and we never had a decent to good O-Line!!
Yea, ur in denial. And ur obviously not serious! Next!

Next! My ass!
Ok, within the past 10 years, McNabb has had great OLINES with Tre Thomas, Runyan, Shawn Andrews when healthy and levelheaded, etc. But check the Recievers in his era…..FREDDIE MITCHELL, TODD PINKSTON, REGGIE BROWN, JAMES THRASH, TORRANCE SMALL, CHARLES JOHNSON, GREG LEWIS, AND the only one that was great within that 10 years besides Desean Jackson was TERRELL OWENS. So c’mon man! Get your knowledge up! It’s not even par. Brady, Manning, and Brees had recievers, especially MANNING, they have consistent playcalling, and have ALWAYS IN 10 years had a GREAT OLINE. This is factual.

. YOU were the one talkn about the O-line. Correct.

That was u who said that! YOU said NOTHING about receivers!! U didnt even MENTION receivers. If u had then I would have made a different statement! U talked O-line so I talked O-line! We all know we havent had WRs here for a long time. C’mon man, that’s the easy way out!

you sound like the kids on Philadelphiaeagles.com
you have an opinion, and then you call everyone who disagrees with you inappropriate names.
You then proceed to argue how your football knowledge is extensive as if that statement alone will get people to listen to you.
If you want people to respect your opinion…SHUT UP…and think before you speak. If you really are intelligent, that will show. So far…I’m not impressed.

come on, man…it’s a team sport. It’s so annoying that mcnabb is a polarizing issue. the people that put down mcnabb on this board do so because they don’t really care about stroking the guys ego. They care about the team winning. If he’s not playing well, the eagles aren’t winning, hence maybe someone else could do better.
a pet peeve of mine is when people gloat. aka “just as I said the defense is to blame. you all thought it was mcnabb, but it’s the D”. not only is that gloating at the eagle’s losing because you think it proves you right, but it’s also incorrect. This week the eagles lost because of the D. Other weeks the eagles lost because other aspects of the game didn’t work (aka, mcnabb or WR)

Tomlinson didn’t get over 100 yards so it’s not like he had a career game, Rivers had his second lowest yards this year. The D did okay I wouldn’t blame them solely. How about the Offense not being able to keep the D off the field or giving the Chargers a short field to work with.
This was a team loss just like every game is.

but allowing 31 points doesn’t exactly impress me. McNabb, however, did impress me tonight, as did the pass-blocking of the O-line.

I just hear it a lot. Yay Donovan! Donovan’s the Man! And then the next week when we lose its…Donovan you suck! Time for McNabb to go! I just get tired of hearing it. It starts with the OLINE and the playcalling. So blame those misfortunes as of late before you blame Donovan. Because to be a QB, you have to have good playcalling and a good line. what does that even mean?
- Does it mean: Can I ignore it, and try to see his point through the fog of gibberish? No, because all I hear is stupidity.
- Does it mean: Can I emotionally assimilate his insult in my psyche and maintain a positive self-image without becoming upset? Yeah, in the grand scheme of things I tend not to take the insults of random children on the internet personally.
- How does my desire to have a conversation without “F-bombs” and “faggots” make me look like a pussy? Do I prove my ‘toughness’ by accepting his language? Do I get ‘tougher’ and ‘more manly’ with every FBomb I ignore…?

Our we were missing a key LB in Jordan. Gocong of all people had to play middle LB! Sheldon was playing hurt. Demps was out. Hobbs is done for the season. Hanson is suspended! And u wanna throw the Defense under the bus even more than before! Is this a joke? Injuries are not excuses but it a factual reason that could hurt a teams chances of playing ur A game!

Look man, I hear you. But you gotta play like you want to win! Our defense is poor right now. So if they get an excuse for not playing well (injuries, etc.) then McNabb gets the right for an excuse too (Bad play calling by the coaching staff, inured offensive line, inconsistent offensive line play)

AGREE
And me too and I think we finally agree on something here. “We live and die as a team” I’m just really frustrated as you should be too. Its only right to blame the defense for today’s loss tho…AND THE COACHING. Because the offense didn’t start strong, but they finished strong and did their job. Right?
by PhillyEagle4Life on Nov 15, 2009 11:03 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Amen!
That’s my view man! I though, Dmac struggled at first! The pass protection was indeed good today! Even without Peters. How many sacks did or O-Line give up today. What one. The other one was a fluke. The guy was layin on the ground! But the Defense didnt play well and the Coaching was not good as usual as so the clock management! Dmac sustained drives and run a 2min offense! He finished strong. We just need our Defense back, and Dmac to continue to improve and stay consistent! As well as our line!

You are Right.
There are many on this board who are gunning for Mcnabbs head in a loss, but will not do the same when the blame should be placed elsewhere. The bottomline though is we lost and the Defense played horribly…….Albeit due to the multitude of injuries that we have suffered. Hopefully we can get healthy and the defence can get off of the field @ a critical jucture

mcnabb
i love mcnabb, but you’re not gonna fault him for wasting a timeout early in the third quarter?…even andy “cant manage the clock” reid was confused by mcnabb. isn’t that biased?…we lost as a team, so he needs to get his share. mcnabb played his part in this loss too, just depends on how much of the share you want to give him…450 2tds is pretty damn good, too bad it took him till the 4th qtr to throw them.
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

Jackson and Maclin aren't Red Zone threats
Jackson and Maclin need an open field to create separation and to get open…
There is no one on the Eagles roster who scares opposing teams inside the 20, 10, etc…
No receivers, no running backs.
That’s the bottom line.

And in all right...
Reggie Brown could be considered a redzone target!
I know it’s early but, I CAN’T til Ingram is healthy and ready to go for next year. Ingram and Celek will be a deadly combo on the field for us. And in the redzone….Ha, Look out. They’d be dynamic in the redzone!

This most likely wouldn't happen but
If we somehow were able to get Jermaine Gresham it would be crazy! I know that chances of landing him are slim to none. I know! But just in case Ingram isn’t able to come back fully! I know we have OTHER more IMPORTANT needs right now..mainly on defense, but if Ingram by chance can’t come back, all we have is Celek! And if he goes down, it would be bad! Something about a 6’6 261 lb TE that is a COMPLETE TE makes me do some thinkn.!
But again, I know we have other needs. But dang, 6’6 261 lbs and can catch and block!! Man

its a sad day!!!
the eagles got beat… lots of reasons… depleted defensive secondary…. linebackers all out of wack… inability to convert in the red zone… no consistent running game… not enough pressure on the opposing qb… a loss… is a loss… is a loss….blah blah… so what will the eagles masterminds come up with to right this titanic??? not much if past performance is an indicator… barring a miracle the season is over!!! if i were king here’s what i’d do for the rest of the season… 1st… focus on the running game… work on developing some consistent run blocking…it seems like weaver… mccoy…buckley and this guy pj whatever are good enough if they have a little help along the front (running the ball takes commitment and a coordinated effort which is clearly lacking)… keep pounding it until it works… 2nd… clean up the dumb f*** mistakes… 80 yds a game in penalties especially those holds and blocks in the back on special teams have to be reduced… good teams don’t consistently shoot themselves like the eagles do!!! 3rd… either kill the widcat altogether or use it right and get something out of it… right now its just a wasted down… 4th…. put the spys out and find players top teams are hiding on their practice squads (probably a pipe dream but ya never know)… 5th… keep playing mcnabb to max his trade value and unload him for draft pix at the end of the year ( i don’t hate the guy but despite and occasional great game he’s too inconsistent)… Too bad this year has turned out so crappy so far (i was hoping for more)… best to all

what scares me most about this game
is last year’s game against them. They’re a much different team now, with a new QB, but short yardage in goal to go situations lost the game; incidentally, that is a GLARING weakness with our offense!

Keep things in perspective
The defense played poorly, but to say they were shorthanded is a huge understatement. Yes, Sheldon gave up 3 completions for 45 yards. But one of those was a blatant offensive pass interference where Floyd just threw Sheldon to the ground. And Sheldon was hobbled.
The run defense was pathetic. There’s no other way to slice it. That has a lot to do with the fact that none of our linebackers was playing his original position. Gocong should not be a middle linebacker (in fact I still maintain that he is best suited as a situational pass-rushing defensive end), Fokou is a rookie, and Witherspoon can only do so much. Sheldon Brown went out as well.
THat said, the defensive line’s performance is inexcusable. Patterson and Bunkley were manhandled at the point of attack. Trent Cole was an absolute non-factor (how often do you hear that), except for two critical offsides penalties that kept touchdown drives a live. Our defensive line has been our most consistent group, but if they play like that again the playoffs are not going to happen.

Also
While I agree that people are often too hard on McNabb, he didn’t play a perfect game today. He missed a throw to Celek in the end zone that he’ll often make in his sleep (off a play action) and he missed another throw to Celek over the middle in the red zone. He played really well and had the offense moving even without big plays, but if he had been more accurate in the red zone we may have won. He also made a few plays with his legs that Kevin Kolb could not dream of making and some tight throws that Kolb does not have the arm strength to make.
