Anyone else just confused at the moment?
McNabb - Played well today and I am by far the biggest McNabb critic on here. However, usually when McNabb plays well we put up a lot of points, but we didn't.
O-line - Again, horrible run blocking. Have we had a group of guys that played together for more than one game? I don't think we have -- it's hard to pin their poor play on them.
Reid - I'm a big Reid supporter and still am, but 4th and 1 from the goal line we HAVE to go for it. I understand having 0 faith in the O-line but could he honestly say he had more faith in our makeshift defense?
The defense was pretty bad all around, but I guess we can't blame them. Bradley on IR, Hobbs on IR, Hanson suspended, and Jordan out. Not much you can do -- we're injured.
With that said, I have no idea how we can go forward and improve. Are we just mediocre talent wise? Normally I would pin our bad play on McNabb but he was the least of our problems today. Did we give a good effort and just lose to a slightly above avg Charges team? We're a couple losses away from playing golf in January.

The talent is there no doubt about that… the injuries are a major setback and a big reason.. but you gotta put a good amount of the blame on the coaches/playcalling.

Ill agree there
We should’ve went for it… But the not being able to get 1 yard is all on the p layers. we ran it twice and passed it once.

I don't wanna blame the D because of all the injuries.
But the run D just wasn’t there and when we needed stops they couldn’t get them. Our linebacker play is a big, big problem and it doesn’t look like it’ll get any better. We are gonna have to score our way to wins moving forward I’m afraid.

we need health, badly
i don’t know if we have the talent left to make a push, but at the beginning of the year we did. If our defense gets healthy and McNabb plays well….I think we could make a late season run. If the team doesn’t get healthy, there is no way our makeshift LB corps. can do a good job, no way our 5th string CBs can consistently play well against #2 receivers, and no way our short yardage woes will go away.

Not really there was an abundance of penalties pretty much since we got ted daisher, not saying it’s his fault but I am yet to see an improvement.
Seriously though…what does our special teams do right anymore…
-bad field position all day until macho started returning
-penalties all day

I liked how he showed a little fire..when REID chose to pass and instead of run on that last 3 and 1 in the redzone! U could clearly see Dmac was not happy bout that call.!
I didnt like the Defense today, and as USUAL, Reid was being Reid! Same old Reid! hahaha he never fails! LOL . Sorry I gotta laugh cuz Reid cracks me up. Ridiculous

bad call by reid, but if mcnabb hated it so much, he should have audibled. An 10/11 year vet can audible at the line.

oh I totally agree!
And he also could’ve took off running!! That wasnt my point though….My point is Dmac hardly ever shows fire like that against Reid! So u can clearly see Dmacs get’n tired of some of the calls now. A lil late, but I at least we know Dmac’s started to get fed up with it too! Also McNabb did audible the one play to a run with McCoy towards the end. And it turned into a 5 yard gain. Celek score the TD on that possession!

What to know why we lost?
We SUCK at the redzone. Period. How many times did we go into the redzone and kick a field goal? 3 times? We can’t settle for field goal after field goal after field goal for points. We need TOUCHDOWNS.
Oh, and and stopping the Bolts with more than 30 seconds left in the game would help a lot too.

Two things
Our D in the first half…and in the ending of the second.
And the inability to get a TD when we’re, literally, inches away from the goal line.
With that said, McNabb and Co. were ON. On fire, in fact. And the o-line…wow. Very, VERY surprised by how well they played.
And, Westy…I’m praying for you, man.

Tough Loss
Our D is injured so they get a lil pass but it seems like they didn’t even get off of the plane.. I just expected to see a lil better than that. and again in a crucial situation CANNOT get off of the field…….There was NOOOOOO running game even for us. Surprisingly the oline did a great job in pass protection but couldn’t open a lane for short yardage AGAIN. That being Said Mcnabb played lights out and did everything he possibly could have to get us a win.

Normally I would pin our bad play on McNabb but he was the least of our problems today.
Could you sound a little more modest.
Honestly, the D was just no where to be found. Injuries are hurting us bad on D. I still blame the LBs (except Spoon). What was killing us the most seemed like the quick passes (same that NO runs). Quick Plays hurt. As for playcalling. I dont hate McNabb, I dont hate Reid (even though I’m not the biggest fan of him coaching wise), but I am tired of Marty. I’m pretty sure he is making the offensive play calls, and he makes pretty bad ones at that. It seems like he cannot deviate from his gameplan at all. It showed in the Dallas game and it showed in the first half of this game. Teams are going to take away the big play from us so we can’t expect it to always be there. Also, I think we might have to give LJ a call just for this season because it looks like 3 and out for Westy.

This team is corny. No other way to put it.
Weak ass coaching…check; lots of injuries…check; no running game… check; inconsistant Qb play… check.
This doesn’t sound like a football team with a whole lot going on for it.
I haven’t been this unintrested in prime time Eagles game in my life. What else can I say?
Well, I have to admit one thing here though. When Reid talks about the Oline and the reason why it is thee most important part of the team, he has totally won over my support for that school. We(I) have been dreaming for nice WR and we got them. One of the best Corps in the league, if I might add. But, this is the worst Eagles team I have seen since 2005. I guess he was right, we should pay those tackles and guards more than the WR’s!!!!

red zone red zone red zone
It is absolutely pathetic. I typically do not approve of Reid, and am a skeptic of McNabb, but McNabb had a great game. Reid is a good coach for the most part, but what kills me is he can not close out a game or perform under stressful situations (ie Red Zone, and late 4th quarter). That is what makes or breaks a team, and it has obviously broken us. When we are going down the field Reid and Marty are usually pretty good, but my god. They can not deal with those situations for their lives, not to mention their jobs. I personally want see a change in the coaching during this off season and hope to see Reid and Marty on their way out.

IMO
I’m just as confused as you JoeD. I came into the preseason thinking… “shit, we got what it takes to win the Superbowl this year. McNabb wanted weapons and he has more than he ever did” Now we are left here after two bad losses wondering where things are going to go.
I really wasn’t impressed with the game last night and it actually made it pretty hard for me to watch because of:
Penalties – we always have so many penalties and I hate when it ruins a great drive.
Running – we don’t run the ball enough. Period. McNabb threw for 400 yards because we can’t run the ball.
Redzone / short yardage situations – I think Marty should dedicate an entire practice to this because its getting ridiculous and its part of the reason we lost both of these games. Our Oline is disappointing. Yes, they haven’t played together but I don’t care at this point – its their hot damn job. There is no reason we should be able to give Weaver the ball and gain a yard after I don’t know how many trys.
McNabb/WR/Vick – Maybe its just me but I wasn’t that impressed with McNabb yesterday and I’m usually a supporter. Besides the fact that he was throwing almost every damn play, he tired to throw bombs down the field was overthrew I don’t know how many times. There were some catches that the receivers should of had and when Vick came in and finally attempted a pass, I was a little pissed off that Jackson couldn’t keep both hands on the ball. Regardless if it was a little behind him, he had both hands on the ball so don’t drop it.
And Asante should not be giving so much room to receiveres in the end zone. That last touchdown pissed me off too.
I’m frustrated.

Every game that we have lost with McNabb starting, it has been the same
- down by a score
- few to no timeouts remaining at two-minute warning
- defense cannot make critical stops
Now, I’m not pinning this on the defense. I’m merely stating the obvious – the defense wears down at the end of the game because of our lack of depth.
It’s just a painful God damned way to lose three football games within five weeks.
by cwel87 on Nov 16, 2009 9:37 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
All is not lost
This is a painful loss. We outgained San Diego by more than a 100 yards. How many times have you seen a team turn the ball over just once all game, put up 462 yards, and score just 23 points? Penalties killed us many times. Two huge offsides penalties that kept drives alive on defense, and that offensive interference on Jeremy Maclin was a backbreaker (though Vincent Jackson straight knocked Sheldon Brown down earlier on a play and that was not called; I think the refs screwed us).
That said, we lost by just 8 to a good team on the west coast without Jason Peters, Akeem Jordan, Sheldon Brown (for most of the game) Joselio Hanson, and a number of other players. We’re still tied for the wild card spot with two teams who we will play before the end of the season (albeit both on the road) and we still within striking distance of Dallas.
The most disturbing thing was seeing Patterson and Bunkley get pushed around. Gocong is no middle linebacker, so it was imperative for these two to have big games and they just didn’t.

Mike Vick in the Red Zone
Hes been entirely useless, but I remember on at least 1 occasion during the preseason when we used him in the red zone and got a TD outta it. I know, it was the preseason, but I think its worth a try, I mean, nothing else seemed to work yesterday.
A rollout with Vick on the 1 yard line seems like a good play to me.

To read you not blaming McNabb for once! Tough loss man… I just don’t think we’ve got the talent at this point to win close games like that, not with all of the injuries. Run defense looked pretty awful, run blocking atrocious and poor play calling. No excuse for not being able to punch it in on 4 tries from the 1.

that too young is 100% accurate. Maybe, but I think when we’re down to our backup’s backups, we’re simply overmatched. I think the Eagles should also be awarded 9 timeouts per half. Somehow, we’d still manage to have zero left when it counts.
