Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Linebacker change

I just read this on NFL.com and I was wondering if there was any truth to this

PHILADELPHIA -- Injuries and a suspension will force the Eagles to use several players in different roles Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.

Strongside linebacker Chris Gocong moves to the middle, and middle linebacker Will Witherspoon moves to the weakside. Rookie Moise Fokou will start for the second consecutive game on the strongside because of a knee injury to starter Akeem Jordan.

Seldom-used and oft-injured cornerback Dimitri Patterson will be the nickel back in place of injured Ellis Hobbs (out for the season with neck injury) and Joselio Hanson (suspended four games for use of banned substance).

Second-year pro Quintin Demps replaces Hobbs as the Eagles' primary kickoff returner.

If this true...wow......we really miss stew... and it doesn't look good for Akeem either. Btw anyone have any updates on him. I just hope this situation works out, we can't afford these drastic changes towards the end of the season. We need everyone healthy. Any thoughts on this???

Gocong, a natural defensive end, is now playing Mike.

This is very bad.

I think I’d rather have cole play MLB and put cocong in at end

Joking…kind of.

Atleast when Cole is on the field you actually see him doing things. It seems like cocong is just absent…

Suddenly?

Even without all the injuries, tight ends have still ripped us apart

Even with the usual tight-end ripping us apart, we still have a great chance to come out on top. But with these linebacker changes, I have gone from concerned to terrified of tight-ends, especially of the exceptionally athletic variety.

actually...

I watched Gocong play some MLB in preseason, and it wasn’t that pathetic. He was a beast in run support. In coverage….umm…that’s a different story

i actually think putting trotter in the middle is a better idea than that...

No no, we are moving Gocong to Mike so we can open up Trotter to take the nickel corner spot.

Yeah the next draft will be heavy on defensive personnel, with the occasional offensive lineman to quell Andy’s appetite. Should be interesting.

haha sorry, I was writing an essay for one of my classes at the time and was in the crazy talk mode.

I’m gonna try this again. A shitload of defensive players should be picked up, and couple offensive lineman since Andy loves them so much.

Is it even possible to quell Andy’s appetite!?

you couldn't quell andy reids appetite with the grain belt, for christs sake.

See thats the think about it though

We already have, Stewart, Spoon, Akeem, and Gocong! If we drafted another LB it would be mainly for depth. Not immediate impact! Now It dont believe Gocong is very good at LB, but he’s solid against the run. That’s it! If we could upgrade from Gocong we would have a nice LB group! I wouldn’t mind Jordan at WILL, Spoon at MLB and Bradley at SAM. Or, Spoon at WILL, Bradley at MLB, and the "Upgrade LB (Drafted Player) at SAM. I like A. Jordan, but I don’t think they’ll move Bradley from the MLB spot. They should move Cocong to DE and play him as a Joker! See this draft coming up is loaded..LOADED with good DEFENSIVE players. Especially Linebackers!!!!! It’s early to talk about, fun to discuss it.

I would rather get a safety in the first, and then a lb in the second. When healthy, our lb core suddenly looks ok. Stew and spoon are both pretty good lbs, and akeem seems to be getting better weekly.

Where as at free safety….we have the jones/harris/demps trifecta. And I am pretty sure jones is a free agent after the season.

It would be CRAZY if we drafted...

Taylor Mays!!

Chances of arrival, 10% maybe more like 3%. And that’s even factoring in a Vick trade!

the only reason to draft mays

would be to make him a Weakside Linebacker. The dude is the worst coverage safety I’ve ever seen. Everyone loves his measurables and big hits…but that’s all he’s got

by birds'n'raiders on Nov 13, 2009 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

wow

u dont know shit birds n raiders .. berry is the better saftey .. but mays is going to be like polomalu .. one is polomalu the other is adrian wilson .. berry will quietly be better but mays is a stud as well

mays would make a good weakside linebacker....

but i would like to see him come to philadelphia….maybe as a SS, move mikell to FS. i like what i’ve seen out of sean jones so far as well. i think we take linebacker first. neither of these safeties will be here before we pick without some major wheeling and dealing. but back to taylor mays…..kevin ellison just started getting on the field for the chargers, and the guy is playing lights out. he had the same knock about him before he was drafted “big hitter, can’t cover” it’s the roy williams effect. he has a good safety in eric weddle to cover the back end, and 2 good cover corners running around on each side. it frees him up to be an intimidator. granted…we saw what roy looked like once darren sharper left, but when used correctly the guy is a force(that is, until he has his yearly broken forearm.) he was having a great year until he got injured. i think taylor mays could be that guy. or he might just be another michael lewis….but as i’ve stated before…i’m fine with that.(just not in the first round.)

hahah

consodine was a bum .. he couldnt cover anyone .. lewis was an all pro … n lewis would of continued to be so if theydidnt play consodine .. therefore he left for bigger money

theres also...

eric berry, who will probably go even higher then mays. The chances of either of them are pretty much non existent, but it does help that 2 elite safeties are coming to the draft in the same year. Assuming berry declares, I am not sure if mays is a senior but I think he is.

We would have to give up our first and second to snag one of them, unless we really tank the year… but honestly, I would give that up for one of them.

You look at guys like polamalu, the way they can just take over the defense. I would really like to have that high impact safety again.

why not give Rocca a shot at MLB

umm why not move

Fokou to MLB which he did decent at during the pre-season, then keep Gocong where he is at and then move Witherspoon to the WILL LB spot??? why jumble everything up right now?
