Why is everyone so afraid to move on?

Mcnabb:

Career passer rating: 86.0

Doesnt come through in the clutch

is inaccurate

cant run any more

- even the people who want mcnabb still agree with this, so honestly, if you disagree you are just arguing to argue so i dont care what you think.

When I went to say Garcia should start over Kolb, I saw similar names disagreeing with me that support mcnabb.

Everyone says he gives us the best chance to win. thats their only reason for doing so. but if he cant hit recievers, and cant run, how does he give us a chance to win. He throws up balls and recievers get them. Why cant Kolb do the same, or maybe more?

I think Mcnabb should finish out the season, if we don’t make it to the playoffs (yea playoffs) then we move forward with Kolb, and maybe look for a trade partner. McNabb is a very good quarterback he just needs to be more consistent .

Should have traded him to Chicago before

they got Cutler. McNabb should bring at least a 1st rounder.

Hello !

this should not be a discussion ! Can we all help in making us not the dumbest fan base in america and not respond to these posts ? We must be the only fanbase with the second winningest Qb of the decade that wants him gone every season. Glad they didnt have the internet when Dan Marino was playing, because im guessing he’s not clutch with only one superbowl appearance and no rings ? Peyton Manning has only been past his first playoff game twice in his career and is 7 and 8 in the playoffs and his superbowl year his four game playoff run performance was-
97 of 153 (63.4%) for 1,034 yards, 6.8 YPA, 3 TD, 7 INT, 70.5 passer rating lucky that he didnt play in philly before that 4 game run were he sucked like usual …….so please lets stop allowing people to post Qb opinions here bcuz it makes us look so stupid and im proud to be an eagle’s fan and dont want to be lumped in with these idiots…….thanks

I guess the Patriots shouldn’t have moved on from Bledsoe right?

Just because Mcnabb has been good for us doesn’t mean we shouldn’t move on from him if he doesn’t perform…

This offense has so many good weapons and if this team doesn’t make the wildcard it might be time to move on…

I say McNabb

He does in fact give us the best chance to win this year! And I want him to get a ring..as an Eagle.

He’s a seasoned vet, knows the system, has been in many many big games, has made the probowl, has been to the playoffs, has been to the Super Bowl! He just gives us a better chance than Kolb at this point of the season! Kolbs way more accurate but Dmac give us that experience! But if Dmac stinks it up, and or we don’t make it deep in the post season. Piece out son! No disrespect to Dmac. It’s business! It’s the NFL. U gotta move forward and move on.

For McNabb

I’m for McNabb. When I look at the other top teams in the league and the offensive lines that are in front of Brees, Manning (Colts), Farve, Brady, Warner, Romo, Roethlisberger….I see offensive lines that have played together for a while…know each others moves and where they’ll be positioned on the field. The Eagles offensive line has been shot to hell. It’s nowhere near what was to be expected before training camp. And we found out that if Peters goes down, King Dunlap should not be the one to replace him….lol. Stacy Andrews hasn’t played up to par and forget about his brother Shawn, he just kinda disappeared and taking it easy at some headcase farm or rehab place. The center, Jackson….and Winston Justice have been the most consistent on the line so far with no injuries. And Herremans is just getting back into playing shape. The Eagles OL has been put together with paper clips until now. But……at 5-3…….I think Andy and the rest of the coaches have done a good job making that crap work. So I say give McNabb a break….for years he had Runyon and Ira he could depend on. Many people think it was a mistake to let Dawk go…..I think it was a mistake to let Runyon go. But the past is in the past. The OL should start jelling in the 2nd half of the season (hopefully without any more injuries) and with Westbrook back (and his blocking), McNabb and the team should do well.

Your whole arguement is moot

Because you think the Steelers have a good O-Line. One of the worst in the league, actually.

by Team Serbia on Nov 11, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That is true...

The Steelers have had one of the WORST O-lines for the past 5 seasons. !

Super Bowl Champs

The Steelers were also Super Bowl champs. So their OL can’t be that bad. They must have given Roethlisberger a little bit of time to throw the ball at times. Don’t know too many Super Bowl teams who made it there with no protection for their quarterback.. So….if my arguement is moot because of the one QB I named out of 7….then your arguement is full of crap….and the team named….went to the Super Bowl. With…according to some nuts…the worst OL in the league. How the hell did that happen????…….lol.

by Virgoman3 on Nov 11, 2009 4:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No, their O-line has been bad for quite some time now. It’s a well known fact.

They were really bad

Do you remember us sacking him 9 times in the game last year.

Also, Ben said something to this effect after winning the super bowl, “Hey! O-line they said you weren’t good enough, but look what we did!” He openly acknowledged everyone knew they were bad.

What is said and what is is not the same.

Going into last year, the Steelers critics were calling their offensive line the achilles heal of the team. But, they proved to be much better than advertised. Many sacks are the result of Ben holding onto the ball and trying to make a play…which he often does.

Why is everyone so afraid to move on?

this is pretty simple actually … we have been very successful with McNabb at the helm. Moving on is a question mark that some people are a little afraid of … why you ask … well I will list my answer to this below.

Answer:
Washington Redskins
Detroit Lions
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
St Louis Rams
Buffalo Bills
Cleveland Browns

Teams that moved on … and are still looking for a legit franchise QB for 1000 Alex

Other teams that moved on

Patriots – Bledsoe (#1 pick)
Steelers – Maddox
Cowboys – (Romo is garbage but better than Bledsoe)

You have #1 good example right there. Maddox was garbage to begin with (remeber Kordell Stewart started over him), and by the time Bledsoe got to the Boys he was washed up. The Pats are the only good example of this working.

maybe you're right

maybe moving on from mcnabb could mean the team falls into the great abysss of losers like those you mention… on the other hand failing to move on pretty much guarantees the team continues its erratic ways… one week up and the next sputtering and weezing along on 3 and outs and dirtballs… what it comes down to is this… sticking with mcnabb (and reid) is an admission of fear of failure… i would ask you what is ever accomplished out of fear??? obviously nothing good!!!! if the eagles were to become as inept as the teams you mention that would be too bad but it would not be the result of putting the mcnabb era in the rear view mirror… it would simply reflect a lack of caring on the part of the ownership… anyway… the team has done remarkably well in the past with garcia as an example… kolb acquitted himself very well when he played this year… its not mcnabb or the end of the world… its time to move on!!!

by Elmo the faithful fan on Nov 11, 2009 2:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

can you perhaps get over your fear of the reply button?

It’s not a fear of failure, it’s a knowledge of personnel. If the team feels comfortable in handing the reigns over to McNabb I will support that because after all I support the team not individuals.

I think the Eagles did the difficult yet correct thing they went out and got there guy ahead of schedule and brought him along slowly. This pissed people off and lent itself to the calls for McNabbs ousting but it was a smart decision none the less.

I don’t happen to be one of the people afraid to let McNabb go although I do think until proven otherwise he gives us our best chance to win. The thing is if Kolb fails and I don’t think he will, well then what will all of those people begging for McNabbs release be when the teams is 2-12 or 3-13?

I think it’s idiotic to jettison a man who has the 3rd best winning percentage among active QBs until he has proven he can no longer perform his duties. To me he hasn’t done that yet he has still shown that he can make plays and that he can win even though he seems to be a bit more inconsistent this year than usual.

I mean the man is 4-2 this year and people want to get rid of him?

He’s 2-1 in the division and people want to throw him out?

He’s 9th in the league in QB rating better than Rivers, Manning, Palmer, Warner, Ryan, Cutler … yet we need to make a change?

He has 10 TDs and only 3 Picks good for 16th in the league and has anywhere from 40-140 less attempts from everyone in front of him but he’s no good for us?

I get it people are annoyed at his inconsistency and just want a change, but be careful for what you wish for.

Once again...

…you and I are in agreement. “I think it’s idiotic to jettison a man who has the 3rd best winning percentage among active QBs until he has proven he can no longer perform his duties.” Couldn’t say it better myself. To your always impressive litany of statistics, professor, I would add that Donovan is 13th all time in passer rating. Here is where you and I do part company…my statement would probably include some or not all of the following nuggets…
1) Kolb has a weak arm
2) Kolb is a product of a defective University of Houston system
3) I believe Kolb is a career backup at best
4) Kolb? Sorry, not a fan.

1) EvilBanner has a weak reply
2) EvilBanner fails to see that McNabb’s production could be because of Reid’s system
3) EvilBanner is a second rate fan

I started writing this as an angry reply because we are fundamentally at odds (I blame McNabb and love what Banner&Reid have done), but then I shifted gears to name calling. Seriously though, please offer something other than Kolb sucks, Banner sucks (post) repeat.

how strong an arm is needed???

remember the detmers…they were pretty sad… together they didn’t have a strong arm… infact…. together they weren’t even as strong as kolb…. that said, it would seem that kolb dosen’t have the strongest arm in the world… but then again neither did montana…or many other great qbs… all the arm strength in the world, however, is a waste without accuracy and touch… i think (i know its an “opinionfact”) kolb is strong enough…is he smart enough?. does he have the leadership qualities? the pocket presence?? who knows?you can make a statisical case for just about anything (who cares if mcnabb is thirteenth all time in passer rating???)… at the end of the day mcnabb’s performance in close games and in crucial situations is terrible… watching him in those situations is pure anguish… the chances of him completing a crucical pass in a crucial situation is between slim and none… no matter how much we root for him and the team… its tragicomic… he always falls short…. f***ing always!!! i say, get rid of mcnabb… give kolb his shot… if he fails get rid of him and keep looking… enough is enough…

The problem here is ...

It’s not just an every so often “inconsistent” level of play..It’s inconsistent play season after season. People think that every NFL team plays inconsistently. Which is true. But how many WINNING teams play inconsistently season after season after season?! Then again, what defines a winning team. I say a team that has always a contender since 1999. I chose 1999 becuz that’s when Reid and Dmac took over!! It feels good to be in the winning bracket more times than not for us, but it would feel GREAT if we could win a SB! If we are winning but keep losing/slipping away our chances to move forward over the hump due to constant inconsistent play, something has got to change! Again is not the inconsistent play that bothers me, cuz it’s Sports, u r always gonna have ups and downs..it’s the CONSTANT inconsistent play year in and year out that bothers me. And after 10 yrs, its like Really though..why are we still dealing with this same problem!!

i could not agree more

you are probably too young to remember the dismal days when norm sneed was the qb and the back up was king hill… the team from the ownership down just plain sucked… people were calling for sneed to be replaced by hill… thinking that was the answer… of course it wasn’t!!! there really is no parallel here… today’s situation is not the same… I was just reliving the nightmare for old times sake… todays problem is difficult… the ownership does not suck… lurie is committed to fielding a quality team…the management is good… the question is what to do about the two glaring problems… mcnabb’s inconsistency and reid’s poor game coaching decsions… even their most loyal supporters recognize their shortcomings… unless they are replaced the team will never be great… good maybe… great… NEVER!!!! i personally would like to see them gone… i’d rather have a chance to be great and possibly get crap than accept any more of this craziness.

Agreed

I love Dmac and appreciate what Reid has done for this team. Building this team from the ground up! And McNabb, from being bood when drafted, to going to a Pro Bowl; Many playoffs, 5 NFCCG’s and a Super Bowl appearance! It’s all a great story! But there’s always an ending to a story no matter how great it is! If we just keep waiting and waiting, and keep following this repetitive never ending story will out changing something…well, when will it end.! What would it take to end this story if they can’t get to the goal!

Very Fortunate.....

Having lived in the San Francisco bay area for over 30 years after growing up in Philly. And watching the rise and fall of both the 49ers and Raiders…who by the way, made it to the Super Bowl and won. I have come to appreciate Andy Reid, Lurie and McNabb even more. Sure….the Raiders can always look back to their glory days and say they won the Super Bowl…..but look at their record over the past 15 years, it’s crap. And Al Davis still won’t let he coaches coach. And yes, the 49ers won 4 or 5 Superbowls in their glory days of Jerry Rice, Joe Montana and Steve Young, but those days are long gone. As la ife long Eagle fan since the 60s…and having gone through the VanBrocklin, Jurgenson, Snead, Gabriel, Jaws and Cunningham days (with some crappy QB’s thrown in between them)…I’m very proud of what Reid and company have done over the past 10 years. And also what McNabb has done for the team. While living on the West Coast, I heard the same comments made about John Elway. As good as he was, he was still called a loser until he won the Super Bowl late in his career….and he even had to be talked out of retiring a couple of times. And when some fans were about to give up on him…..again…..he won back to back Super Bowls and retired a champ. The same could happen to Donovan….with a stable, injury free OL in front of him. The defense doesn’t surrender a lot of points, except for the New Orleans game…..but they’re a damn good team, and the Eagles weren’t ready. The year the Eagles did make it the Super Bowl, the team was clicking on all cycliners. The OL was set….Runyun and Ira were protecting McNabb…T.O. had his best year ever….Westbrook was smoking….and our D was dynamite. Having grown up in Philly, I understand where most fans are coming from….it’s always what’s best for the team…..but….it’s also…..‘what have you done for me today, not yesterday’….lol. If McNabb takes the Eagles to the playoffs and Super Bowl, I know all will be forgiven. Most will praise Andy, Lurie and McNabb….and also praise the past ten years. But today, it’s………’he’s too inconsistent. But I’m glad we have him.

The trouble with stupid people

…a career passer rating of 86.3…can’t run…doesn’t win Super Bowls…
Dan Marino

…a career passer rating of about 70…considered too “stupid” to win big games…prematurely balding…
Terry Bradshaw.

By the way, the stat that gives you a raging hard on (QB rating)…Donovan is 13th ALL TIME. Look it up.

i've never understood...

how a passer rating is determined…

how is the “prematurely balding” factor measured???

how is the “can’t run” factor measured???

by the way, does mcnabb’s receding hairline increase or decrease his rating and by how much?

Could it be the system?

Hasn’t every QB looked good in Andy’s system?

McNabb, Garcia, Feeley (got a starting job with Miami for a while because of his time on the Eagles when McNabb was out) and recently Kolb has looked great as a starter.

The system seems to make any decent QB look good

Dude

You’re talking about QB’s who were either experienced or came in having worked in our system for years, and there was virtually no tape of them as Eagles QB’s. It’s pretty easy to develop a game plan that highlights 5-10 yard passes and win 2 games with a solid game plan. Make Garcia a starter and look what happens (SF, TB), make Feeley a starter and look what happens (MIA). Being a starting QB that teams have film on and study their habits is different than playing 2 games against a defense that has no idea what you’re capabilities are.
