Caplan: Eagles Still Looking at Cornerbacks

According to NFL reporter Adam Caplan's Twitter feed, the Eagles have been continuing their search for a viable fifth cornerback in the wake of Dimitri Patterson's constant injuries:

#Eagles had former #Lions 7th rounder in 2007 CB Ramzee Robinson for a workout this week.

#Eagles tried to claim CB Jack Williams so it's obvious that they are looking for some depth there.

Of course, there's always a chance current practice squad denizen Jack Ikegwuonu could make a move to the active roster, but the lengthy search so far by the Eagles suggests otherwise. Interestingly though, both Robinson and Williams have failed to make the Detroit Lions' active roster (Williams is currently on the practice squad), which should tell you something about how desperate the Birds have become for a fifth cornerback who can actually stay on the field. I wonder how long it will be before we give Trae Williams a call?

I may be remembering wrong but I think the trade stipulation required lito to start something like 85% of the games. I think he also has to get resigned or something. It was a crazy trade, at this point I would be completely happy with a 3rd.

probably going to be a fifth.

yea probably. I think there was even a stipulation where we would have to give a 5th back if something crazy happened. It was pretty much a completely no risk trade for the jets.

Speaking of "fragile" CBs...

Interesting that I didn’t see any updated response to the Mike Jenkins post

At least someone should have been man enough to say that one lowlight doesn’t make a career… Meanwhile, I live you one of his recent highlights:

Not sure what you want from us. He made a nice pick. Great. Is he a Hall of Famer now?

It doesn’t change the fact that on this play, right here…

…he was very much scared of the running back. Sorry, he just was.

Looks like Ellis Hobbs is being placed on IR. Possibly the reason they are looking for more depth.

LITO

Just FYI on the Lito discussion…

First of all, we received a 5th rounder in 2009 for Lito, which became Cornelius Ingram. That part is clear. The rest… well, hang in there with me…

Lito signed a non-guaranteed 4 year extension worth $27.2 million with the Jets. In March 2010, there’s a $10 million option bonus. If the Jets decide to pay it, a new four-year, $27.2 million kicks in. If not, he a free agent.

For us to get a 2 – if Sheppard plays 85 percent of the Jets defensive snaps in 2009 and receives a roster bonus which triggers a 4-year contract extension in 2010, the Eagles receive the Jets 2010 2nd rounder and the Eagles send their 5th round pick in 2010 to the Jets. He’s not going to play 85%, Not happening.

For us to get a 3 – If Sheppard plays 85 percent but is cut before the 2010 roster bonus, the Eagles receive the Jets 2010 3rd rounder and the Eagles send their 5th round pick in 2010 to the Jets. Not happening – NO WAY in hell they give Lito that kind of money.

For us to get a 4 – This is where I’m still unclear.

For us to get no additional compensation – If Lito misses “significant time” (and I don’t know what that means) and doesn’t receive the 2010 bonus, we get nothing.

If I had to choose between Cornelius Ingram and Lito Sheppard, I’m taking Ingram in a heartbeat, but it would have been nice to have an extra pick. Screw you, Lito. You suck.

Ike got promoted too. Caplan is saying Hanson is going to be out for a while. I’ll do a writeup on it after work. Crazy day for the Birds…

Ugh...

Hanson too?!? At least our next 3 opponents (SD, Chi, Wash) have no depth at WR.

LOL

I just read that, and was thinking the same thing

I have to think that if Macho's good to go

we’ll start seeing him more at corner

I noticed Demps has been playing Safety/Corner recently. He played some Corner last year too.

Demps and Macho

were both drafted for their CB/S versatility, as you well know.

I doubt we’d ever see either of those guys in press coverage, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them line up 8 yards off the inside receiver in multiple-DB packages.

At least we’re not replacing Sheldon or Asante, our outside/man coverage guys.

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome

diuretic??

what about the fat twins in minn or those other guys that took em? i don’t think they even missed time!

by Bleediots on Nov 11, 2009 2:34 PM EST reply actions

They didn't...

And not only that, the league decided that since the fat Williams twins couldn’t be suspended by law in the state of Minnesota, they held off on suspensions for Will Smith and Charles Grant in New Orleans (which, oh by the way, would have benefited the Eagles greatly since they would have missed that game against us).
